The future of Armada...

By PsykoPenguin, in Star Wars: Armada

God DAMMIT people we have been over this.

the reason wave 3 has not been anounced is because I have not been able to save up for wave 2 ships.

I made a go fund me: https://www.gofundme.com/62gajtp8

I have been able to save up for rogues and vilains, raider, and mc30 though.

eBegging... Awesome!

There's also been little news for Imperial Assault and only one thing announced for X-Wing, which is rather odd, normally we'd know about wave 9 already.

Something is clearly going on that's stopping the flow of nearly all info, it's not just Armada.

Edit: Oh and Armada was one of the best selling new games that FFG has had, and there's been nothing to suggest Wave 1 and 2 didn't sell well. So to even think they'd discontinue the game is simply nonsense if not worse.

This has been discussed before but I'm of the opinion that the major issues are the merger with Asmodee and the reset of pricing.

That makes the most sense to me too. That doesn't happen until April and Adepticon is going from March 31st to April 3rd, so I expect to see Wave 3 Armada, Wave 9 X-Wing and something for Imperial Assault there.

Far too often people seem to think that since FFG produces games (and this applies to video games as well) that they aren't also a business who do things we don't always understand, because we don't have all the facts they do.

Over the myriad threads on this topic, numerous valid reasons have been proffered for the silence on the wave 3 front. I don't understand, from a purely marketing perspective, why they haven't put out some sort of fluff article or strategy article to keep people from recycling this theme every week, but whatever.

Does anyone else get a unsettling feeling over the fact that its been almost 5 months since there has been any kind of announcement on wave 3 of Armada? I'm getting the feeling they may discontinue it seeing as it seems they've put so much effort into X-Wing as of late... I mean, I could be wrong, and I really hope I am, it just gives me a bad feeling.

Welcome to the boards, sorry about the assholes.

Armada and X-Wing are different games with different needs. I think it might take longer to balance Armada and I don't follow the other non-Star Wars miniatures games to see how often they get releases. It might just be a slow roller, for better or worse. There's a reason I'm not only playing Armada.

I just don't understand the unending need of some players to keep buying new things for a game to keep them playing a game.

Do you really need to keep buying new things to be happy and have fun with a game?

No, I don't NEED to buy anything new, I just WANT something new, haha.

It seems I've kicked quite the hornets nest with my first ever post on here... Oh well, I probably should have read to see if it had been previously discussed in such details!

Maybe my next post will be about the possibility of the SSD's showing up.. I know no ones talked about that :P .

I think you are all wrong! :P

Disney have a tendency to lock things down tighter than a ducks arse. IMO they will be calling the shots on announcements and schedules going forward.

This will likely result in what we are seeing now - no news - until much closer to an actual release. Which tbh I'm quite happy with.

I hate 'news' when I have to then wait 6-9 months for the actual toys.

I predict a big announcement for X-Wing, Armada and Imperial Assault (and maybe the RPGs and LCG too) at the Star Wars celebration in London this Spring.

Ffg was pretty quite at the celebration in cali last year. Dont expect anything different at the london one

"No, I don't NEED to buy anything new, I just WANT something new, haha."

you personalty might just want BUT:

do you think there is a difference when people say things like

"If they can't release at least two waves per year then count me out."

and statements like this have fulled other posts on the "no wave 3 news" topic

Disney has owned Star Wars for sometime and has done nothing to slow down anything so far.

I'm not sure why the so painfully obvious keeps getting looked over. We know that FFG/Asmodee is changing things, but that change doesn't go into effect until April 1st.

So the fact that they're waiting until April which is again, when Adepticon takes place with some huge tournaments... makes perfect sense considering what we actually know.

Penguin I'm with you and your post is timely. I was wondering the same thing this week as I havent had a game in weeks and my brain (a limiting factor for sure) seems to have run out of potential interesting rebel fleet permutations. At this point I feel I need an injection of additional content and the accompanying variables to put the zip-bang into committing multiple hours into table-top rather than my attention starved offspring.

Wave 3

Let's frickin go.

Have you thought of joining our glorious Emperor Palpatine on the Imperial side?

Are you content with one video game? Probably not. I buy a game every two or three months. The same game is not going to hold my interest any longer than that. For armada to hold my interest it needs to release new stuff.

Chess? :P

Sorry, just had to. I'm actually an old fart who will likely stop buying as many things once the Liberty and wingless Liberty come out. Then I'll keep buying extraneous SD's until I have every ship seen on screen. Then I'll put everything on the DSII playmat and keep yelling "It's a Trap!"

Then I might actually play some games.

I'll give you a call when I'm 'done' Morrowind Ninclouse :P

I'd like to get a heads up on what FFG is working on model wise and that's really the extent of the information I'm interested in. My guess for the delay is the same as most others, merger+pricing scheme rehash. It's not like they'd the first or most famous 'week before release date' iron-gobbed miniature game company out there.

In the meantime: there's store championships to deal with, campaign stuff to run, home-brew stuff to consider, models to paint, and regionals to look forward to. Not that I won't be ecstatic when news for Wave 3 is finally pried from the Fantasy Flight Games Gnomes cold dead hands (assuming it's not full of K-wings and suncrushers).

sad very sad.

I'm still playing games I got back in 1990.

Are you content with one video game?

I played City of Heroes pretty much exclusively for 5 years. But comparing Armada to video games is rather apples and oranges.

When I got Mass Effect, I played it and at finished it, at that point my option was to play it again or do something else.

With Armada or any other mini game, you're never really finished, until you've played every possible combo of lists. Because while I may play any given list more than once, unless the other guy is also playing his list for the 2nd time, it's a different game, and even then you may have a different objective, and very likely different deployments, which again makes the game different.

Still playing Company of Heroes (2006) with friends on a weekly basis.

.... Man, some of the vitriol the FFG twitter is getting for having X-Wing Wave 8 Delayed until Mid-March.
