And then over here, Steven Segal blowing up mooks with a microwave bomb came up. All of this got me thinking: what is the craziest, most inventive thing that your engineers have done?

Now you could mention the time that he opened all the airlocks on a spacestation, venting the Imperials to space, but the game encourages thinking outside the box, so I'm talking WAY out there. Stuff like convincing the spaceport doppler radar that a category 5 hurricane is incoming, keeping the target convoy grounded and the like.

Wiring up an Imperial Officer's personal cam droid with explosives, and getting film of the exact expression on his face when it blew up.

Of course, our Engineer is less of a 'freedom fighter' and pretty much a straight-up terrorist. Wiring up a sentient machine also annoyed the party droid.

My Sentinel transferred the personality matrix of the party IG Assassin Droid over to a BD-3000 Luxury Droid chassis. He then added heavy armored plating, optical enhancements, multiband comlink, threat monitor, and a targeting array into his head. Sneake, also, reconstructed the right forearm of the BD-3000 to hold a VX "Sidewinder" Repeating Blaster that disassembles to have the entire limb functional. The last change was a complete rewrite of the personality away from the original HK47 type to a High Society Hannibal Lector type of personality. The droid also had a voice change to be feminine to match the exterior and renamed herself to Kay-Cee; short for Kneecapper. All in all a wonderful improvement over the original droid.

One rigged a partially complete Corona class Line Frigate as a missile then had to bail out in an EVA suit in the middle of a battle. At least that was the craziest thing one has done involving engineering. I had one with multiple personalities and another that started slightly cracked from major traumas (He was orphaned twice and had two homeworlds destroyed by the time he was 20) then cracked even more later as he went from a single father juggling 3 positions to basically doing 5 jobs any of which would have been full time if the organization he was part of had enough people with sufficient rank and skills to fill them all.

My PC has a number of inventions that he's constructed over two years, though most of them are lacking in impact, most of them have been fairly long term items. Excluding intuitive improvements...

A modification dueling pistols to increase the efficiency and enlargement of power packs; the result? a six shooter duelling pistol that's been a firm stable and a fine social firearm.

He built an autopilot into his bike using a saveyer droid with basic navigation functions; essentially allowing it to take over the driving.

A hand-glider with magnetic clamps; essentially was used for a one off heist on a hutt skyscraper. a simple project, but it allowed Tobin about 10 minutes access to the skyscraper's side to plant some charges for a hot entry.

A lightsaber. Yup, the very first time he picked the lightsaber up he rolled a double trumph on the check on it's examination, which allowed him to take some wires from an non-essential system to rebuild it. It was a very impressive moment and one of those epic "destiny calling" situations. The blade was red. XD Funnily enough he rarely used it until recently, often blasters are preferable.

A lightsaber connector. (So he could put two separate lightsabers together to make a double saber. It was a brief experiment but I didn't really like it. It used one saber in regards to the quartiles they have while joined.

An extreme range stun rifle. It was modified from an accient cashe of weapons stashed on a planet. Tobin created a new type of weapon using this as a base, it was lost at the Onsalught campaign.

An entire HWK-1000 that he stolen from a Hutt for another, and was rewarded it for exceptional serves that saved her business, largely a solo effort with a little of assistance from his apprentice, not a particularly unusual job only that he had spent pretty much all his wealth on this job. He gave the droid brain a particlarly cheerful personality, if only to counteract the amount of snark that came from his apprentice (another PC, imagine your typical hacker kid. XD)

We have another mechanic who is more specialised, but unlike Tobin he has a very singular interest. Explosives. It's gotten to the extent that he can turn power packs into bombs as a trivial check. I must ask him for the list of items that he's turned into a bomb!

I once GMed a game where a player wanted to be an astromech slicer, with stats Br 1 Ag 2 Int 5 Cun 2 Will 1 Pr 1. Needless to say he realized he wasn't doing much with his other characteristics, and felt one sided. So in an effort to get a new character, he wanted me to just go with what he was about to do next on this mission attacking a pirate cruiser. When the PCs made it to the bridge, the little astromech charged straight forward towards the enemies, hidden within his chassis a datapad rigged to blow from a previous encounter. He blew himself up and took out a couple of pirate minions on the bridge, but the captain and his lieutenant still drew breath. It as quite entertaining to say the least.

Hacking a Mechanical self replicating Spider Deathbot then riding said bot and using it to disassemble the other bots and using the parts to make my bot bigger stronger and equipped with more improvised weapons like Coffee sprayer, power pack grenade launcher, and my personal favorite plasma cutter.

The same character liked to draw schematics in crayon of death machines he could use in battle like double bladed lightsaber hover people mower or Pneumatic punching cyber arms, because he was jealous of all the people with more arms then him.

See, now I'm jealous. The only time my party shows creativity is when we're mocking the NPCs' names. To be fair, some of them are pretty low hanging fruit - a local crime boss named Astle is pronounced by the players 'Ast-hole' often enough that the GM does it; our boss/quest giver is named Shole, we like to ask his band for 'Shole music'.

And his bodyguard's name is Udaru, which inevitably provokes the following exchange when his name is mentioned:

Player: Who-daru?

There's a shoulder mounted blaster in one of the books. That might be a good starting point for you.

Yes. It is. But its a hands free weapon platform, not a self shooting unit.

My engineer slot is taken up by an NPC Jawa. However he was taken captive recently by the Jawas and held in a sand crawler where he was torchered the PC's went in to rescue him and they were pretty creative as to how they did it.

First in was the stealthy Jedi. She went in under cloak and remained hidden until almost the end of the encounter so she could observe and react when needed. Second was the performer who managed to convince the Chieftain that his prisoner was worth 3 droids.

The performer went back to the ship to prepare the droids while the Jedi remained hidden. She learned that the Chieftain planned not to uphold his side of the bargain and was going to kill the PC's mechanic and hand him over to them dead. The Jedi used the move power (while stealthed) to make the gaffi stick of another jawa hit the chieftain which enraged the chieftain and causes just enough commotion to prevent him from killing the jedis friend.

The chieftain accompanied by several guards take the PC's mechanic to the meeting point, alive for now, but he still plans to go back on his word. The Jedi knowing this communicates what she has over heard to the ship so that when the chieftain and the guards get there the PC's are ready. The hired Gun PC who is a Dashade shows the chieftain video footage of him tearing apart an enemy recently and says "I hope you are not thinking of betraying us". The chieftain and his men stumble backwards in fear only to realise that they have been flanked by the Jedi. Now they are not out numbered but they are out classed and out gunned. The drop the PC's friend and run back to the sanctum of their sand crawler.

Actually it is part of the Jawa Mechanic`s entourage of freed droids. The Jawa has droid righs as one of his motivations

The predator plasma cannon is just a hands free shoulder mounted ranged heavy weapon.

Now the Aliens motion activated machine gun turrets which were cut from the movie is more what you want.

I guess that kind of depends on the weapon. If it’s a vehicle-scale Autoblaster that is mounted to something like a gravsled, piloted by an Assassin droid, I would say that could be pretty deadly.

Most anything by Mythbusters having to do with rocket-propelled things would be very high on my list of shenanigans to try.

Rolling 2 despair on fixing the hyperdrive on the Shadow Raptor (AoR GM kit). One when the timer was on the last turn (before being pulled into a black hole), and the other when I allowed another roll before the Total Party Kill. Both rolls were fails...

He saved the ship by a hair (and mostly my mercy), when he roleplayed himself out of it. The party spend 2 destiny points to establish that the ship crew took control of the piloting remotely. Attempting in the last minute, to maneuver away from it (bridge was too far for the party before the rush to the drive, so they decided to jump manually).

He jury rigged the ship with most of his expensive hi tech gear, and mentally he was never the same again (-4 strain threshold), poor wookiee went mad scientist on the party after that (he held grudges against the rebellion crew we had to save, and were too late to fix the last important leg of the encounter), until they figured out he needs major mental healing

I am playing an artisan (Jedi Engineer still counts :-P) focusing on support/debuffing and trying not to steal the spotlight from the more combat oriented party members. The rest of my party likes ambushing people from long range (or further), so I wanted a weapon I could imbue for combat options rather than straight killing (disorient, knockdown, or concussive as opposed to crit/autofire). The missile tube attachment could have worked but was a bit overpowered, so I modified the repulsor rifle (basically a tractor beam in reverse) to launch grenades (or anything else I stuff down the barrel). I told the GM it should have the inferior weapon quality due to lack of accuracy, but it is still the most fun weapon I have used

The craziest thing my engineer has done? Tried to fly a ship.

You see, she was the only one with a rank in piloting. Nothing from any pilot trees - just one skill, but she was the best of the group, so she was nominated to pilot us down to a secret imperial base on a long deserted world. Everything was fine - well, until they came nose to nose with a TIE fighter on patrol as we rounded an asteroid. We had a good firing solution on the fighter, but wasn't quite quick enough to pick them off before they squeaked out an alarm.

And then I bounced off an asteroid with a despair. Then while the ship was wildly spinning out of control, it bounced off another asteroid with two more despairs. While I was able to stop the spin, doing so meant flying nice and straight and level - meaning the TIE's wing-man got several really good hits in on us - lights going out all over the dashboard. At this point the engines flame out, and I give up flying (really more crashing with style at this point) and abandon the cockpit back to the currently on fire engine room, everyone in the gun turrets shouting "Where the hell are you going" as their pilot runs past them in the wrong direction.

Although really, your pilot running anywhere is always a bad sign.

They managed to finish off the TIEs so when we abandoned ship, they at least wouldn't shoot down the escape pod - because the burning, melting, bendy engine was well beyond my capabilities. But hey - at least we were able to get our gear and get off before the ship slammed into one final asteroid head on! That was a plus!

So, lesson of the day: don't let the engineer fly.
