The Belthir mini looks really cool. He is towering the game, lol.
I think Avric looks awesome on that base! (They all look great by the way)
There is a "chess" feeling about these minis and their bases. I think it's very creative.

I am not sure what you mean exactly
The reason I went with the square bases was that I haven't found good round graveyard bases under 30mm. And as a side effect, it makes placement easier - no more 'or, could you please place this Ettin in the middle of 4 squares' thing
Well I meant that it's quite common to find beautiful chess pieces with a prominent base, making the pieces look like they're higher than the ground, flying over the board, which inspires respect. Just got the same feeling when I saw your heroes/lieutenants. It was a compliment
Very nice job, dude. If could paint that well, I'd stick with the original base, though. Once I've got some drem blade minis and switched the bases to circular, crippling some orcs from D&D (I've got enough of them, of course)
I payed special attention to Syndral eyes. If I remember well, it's the fisrt mini with eyes open I see
Great, those look like GW bases. The paint jobs are very nice and clean. The height of the objects some of them are standing on is something I used to do with Warhammer minis often, like unit Champions, to help them stand out from the group.
Thank you for your warm words!
The bases I use are resin cast bases. So far I loved the most the Polish manufacturers: Micro Art (aka cool mini or not bases) and Scibor

Love the bases! Makes me almost regret going for a "painted on stone" approach.
Like the paintjob on the ettins and sentinels best. Good to see more paint here, keep em coming
Fire Imps
Kinda hard to tell which of you guys are the best painter

Took a look at your works in the neighbor thread - jeez, I feel ashamed now...
Edited by SpawnGarretLoving the base work.. and your ettins are beyond great!
Nothing to be ashamed of Spawn! Different styles and approaches, thats what makes it so interesting to see paint threads!
PS Just realized the clubs in the ettins' hands, how did you do it?

Nothing too original
Base wooden color first, dark brown-greenish wash, and then lighter wooden color picking just the reliefs - which is pretty simple on the club. That creates a lot of contrast.
Spikes - iron metallic (btw, I use AK Interactive True Metals - which are just FANTASTIC), armor wash on top. I wanted to add some rust weathering the same way I did for sentinel armor, but forgot
Edited by SpawnGarretHehe thanks for the description, good job on the club.
However my question was phrased misleading - I wanted to know about the bone that you customized! Is it styrofoam, green stuff? Hardly any experience with sculpting here...Thanks

Cast in white metal.
I replace the absence of sculpting skills with $ :-D
sculpting is its own artform i guess..like the cave man look those transmit

One hour..*sigh* I paint so slow that I usually take more just for the basecoat
