possibly spent too long looking at the card but it states "once per round, before you roll 1 or more defence dice..." does C3P0 have to be on the ship in question or does his ability act like the Emporers and effect any ship in play. Always considered it was just his ship but now doubting myself. I suppose it depends on who You is

The Emperor is quite different from most upgrades, it's one of the few perhaps only that can affect other ships like that.

On an upgrade card when it says "you" it is referring to the ship it's on, not you as a player.

In the case of the Emperor "you" still actually refers to that ship, as the modification is coming from there and not the target ship. But it also says 'a friendly ship' meaning it can affect more than just the ship he's on.

CARD INTERPRETATIONS

Many Ship card abilities use the word “you” to refer to the corresponding ship. Upgrade and Damage cards that use the word “you” refer to the ship to which the card is assigned.
