Munitions Failsafe + Extra Munitions? Also a Punisher List.

By Boba Rick, in X-Wing

What happens when you combine Munitions Failsafe and Extra Munitions?

I'm getting a Punisher this week, what do you think of this list? I thought about subbing something out and putting Twin Ion Engines on the Defender.

TIE Punisher: · "Redline" (27)
Extra Munitions (2)
Concussion Missiles (4)
Assault Missiles (5)
Fire Control System (2)
Munitions Failsafe (1)

TIE Defender: · Colonel Vessery (35)
Push The Limit (3)
TIE/x7 (-2)

TIE/fo Fighter: · "Omega Ace" (20)
Stealth Device (3)

It could work, but isn't Col Vessery shooting after Redline? Doesn't that mean you will probably use your TL to adjust your dice with Missiles?

My idea was to get free target locks for Vessery off of Redline's double target locks. No missiles on Vessery, but free target locks with PTL could be fun.

Colonel Vessery

When attacking, immediately after you roll attack dice, you may acquire a target lock on the defender if it already has a red target lock token.
“Redline”
You may maintain 2 target locks on the same ship. When you acquire a target lock, you may acquire a second lock on that ship.

So what does Munitions Failsafe and Extra Munitions do when combined?

If you miss, you don't discard the EM token.

Here is what I am currently running.

Redline

FCS

Cluster missiles x2

Plasma Torps

Extra munitions

Autothrusters

I plan on trying the G.Chimps when they come out and see how that works. With Redline I always use that second target lock to make sure the attack goes through. So I am not sured if you want autothrusters for that help surviving.

Once Guidance Chips (or LRS) come out, you will not be running Munitions Failsafe. Just pretend that card never existed.

I like the Punisher, but I haven't had many opportunities to use it (haven't used Redline at all). Maybe swap Omega Ace out for Epsilon Leader - a little cheaper and a good way to keep your other ships unstressed. Omega Leader might be a good fit, too...

I hate the dumb pilot names they gave us in TFA core...

Agreed... It feels like they either they got lazy, or didn't have permission to make stuff up regarding Ep. VII.

Coldreaver83, I currently run Redline with OL and Omega squadron pilot. It is a lot of fun.

Fcs means redline always has 2 target locks after he finishes shooting something unless he destroyed it.

Great advice! I revised the list, with the combo of Twin Ion Engines and Epsilon Leader that will really help to keep the stress off of Vessery:

TIE Punisher: · "Redline" (27)

Extra Munitions (2)

Concussion Missiles (4)

Assault Missiles (5)

Fire Control System (2)

Munitions Failsafe (1)

TIE Defender: · Colonel Vessery (35)

Push The Limit (3)

Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

TIE/x7 (-2)

TIE/fo Fighter: · "Epsilon Leader" (19)

Would Juke be better on Omega Ace? I haven't tried it yet, just got my FO.

For Omega Ace you really want PTL, he needs a TL and a Focus every time he shoots to get the maximum out of his ability.

Omega *Leader* is the one who wants Juke and Comm Relay.

Imagine if they had released a game prior to the release of the first movie in 1977. There would be no Mauler Mithiel or Night Beast or Dark Curse. When the Expansions came out, there would be no Howlrunner or Backstabber or Winged Gundark. On the Rebel side, there would be no Garven. Wave I would not have Horton or Dutch (well, maybe.. but he'd probably be called Hutch) or Maarek Stele. It would just be a whole bunch of "Black Squadron Ace" "Obsidian Leader" "Red Leader" business.

All those people and/or their names came from additional material published after the movie. FFG isn't just going to be able to make up names for someone who might have an entire comic book series planned for them or something.

Right. As I said "or didn't have permission to make stuff up regarding Ep. VII." ;)

If you've got TIE/X7, you're living in a post-Guidance-Chimps world. You're much, much better off making your munitions hit more reliably than getting a third Concussion Missile shot that Redline probably won't be alive to take.

Oh.

The Resistance had other pilots, like Snap Wexley, who could have taken the name of Blue Ace or Red Ace. Likewise, FFG has been making up nicknames for Imperial pilots for several waves.

There's a big difference between making up a name for some goob in a K-Wing no one's ever heard of and making up a name for that female pilot on Poe's wing 9 months before the movie comes out and then having Disney call her "Jess."

Now I want to build a Daredevil in a royal interceptor and Punisher list, for Season 2. Who for Elektra though.

Redline is my fave right now. You won't need Failsafe with him. Even without Chips, you'll get at least one hit, and with clusters it's even less likely since they'd both have to miss.
