Riders On The Storm

SPOILER ALERT for Jewel of Yavin!

Pg.18 of JoY...

"Enterprising PCs may take it upon themselves to artificially create a meteorological emergency as part of some master plan."

Really? Who's PCs?

"Aha! My Weapon of Meteorological Doom is now complete! I shall call it WMD, and use it to steal a pretty rock!"

Seriously, anybody's players think of doing something this audacious? Anyone?

Nope. They blew up the bank with a thermal detonator, though, when they couldn't hack two of the security droids. Killed the Gand who threw the thing, too.

Just have some PC sit a floor above a window where the NPC baddies are in question, holding a water hose.

"Aww, no! It's raining outside!"

Could just mean hacking the storm warning system, but I know my players wouldn't think of it...

That's not a terribly absurd idea. In the X-Wing series they create a lightning storm to overload shields, bringing them down.

It could also be as simple as convincing an automated system that there is an emergency. If that gets people to evacuate the area, then your party might have a lot less to deal with. If this was happening in the southeastern US, I might want to hack a Doppler system to show incoming snow. Everyone would instantly flip their ****. Office buildings would be deserted, stores would close down, streets would empty. Plus a weather system probably has way less security than whatever other system I might otherwise need to get into. If the weather gets the bank to close, then at least I'm not having to break in while people are there. Should at least remove any setbacks from having to rush or not be seen.

In space **** could get even weirder. Use a tractor beam to throw asteroids at the place you're going to rob. A meteor is the epitome of meteorological weapon. Why hack the security when you can just use a meteor to bust out the wall to the vault? Would you need a couple great checks? Yeah of course you would, but it'd be an amazing way to get the job done.

Tripping an early-warning weather alarm and creating a meteorological emergency do not equate, but one is certainly easier than the other.

Edit: I'm just gonna throw this out there, and **** the torpedoes, but I think using tractor beams to hurl galactic refuse is over used, uninspired, and unimaginative.

Thread should be spoilered.

Why? FFG didn't spoiler their "inside look" at JoY. You're getting nothing here that FFG didn't leave sitting out.

JEWEL of Yavin. Touted as a daring heist. The titles of ALL their published adventures ARE spoilers. MASK of the Pirate Queen. Picture on the cover of a masked...pirate queen?

But I'll edit in a spoiler warning.

Could just mean hacking the storm warning system, but I know my players wouldn't think of it...

*Makes note for my Technician's future use*

Well **** man. I sure am glad it isn't my goal to impress rude people on the internet! Think of all the sleep I would lose just trying to come up with ideas that were on par with your level of creative brilliance. :P

**** the torpedoes, I say.
