Extra damage point inflicted by Dutch Vander

By Mad Cat, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

From the Dutch Vander card

When a squadron you attack suffers at least 1 damage, you may toggle its activation slider to the activated side. If it was alread activated, it suffers 1 damage instead.

If Dutch inflicts 3 hits on a named squadron that has already activated this turn it does 1 extra damage. Is this a separate damage allocation which is important if the target has a brace defence token or do we add up all the damage?

A. 3 hits - spend Brace = 2 damage, then inflict 1 damage due to Dutch rule = 3 damage.

or

B. 3 hits - then add 1 damage due to Dutch rule = 4 damage, then brace = 2 damage.

We played it as "A" but just thought I'd check.

It's A.

Suffer damage happens after you hav determined how much damage to suffer, that is after the effect of brache has been included. The extra damage from Dutch doesn't happen untill you actualy suffered the damage from the attack.

RRG P2, Step 5 of the attack sequence:

"Then the attacker determines the total damage amount. Then the defending squadron or hull zone suffers that total damage, one point at a time."

Yep, it's A. It's the same reason Ruthless Strategists is a great way to burn down ace squadrons.

The rules for Assault Concussion Missiles do something similar. Those cannot be targeted by Brace or Redirect specifically because they occur separate from the damage roll. I would expect that to happen here as well.

The rule is not as cut-and-dry as that... The reason as to why Assault Concussion Missiles work that way, is because it is a critical effect , and the timing of such Critical effect makes it so... It happens before you have tallied up the amount of damage you have taken, and thus, is not subject to the brace or redirect tokens, which happen (respectively) when you tally up the Damage, and while you are taking damage.

This one is not as 100% cut-and-dry. If it were a critical effect, then I'd be all over-it. But its not.

5. Resolve Damage:

The attacker can resolve one of its critical effects.

Then the attacker determines the total damage amount.

Then the defending squadron or hull zone suffers that total damage, one point at a time.

The brace happens when you Determine up the Damage amount.

The Good News is, you've already Determined how much damage you are taking, and you have halved it due to the Brace Token...

Then you Suffer Damage.

THAT is the Trigger for Dutch Vander to either do the Activation Slide, or deal an additional point of Damage.

Because Brace has already been Declared, Trigger and USED by that point, it won't effect this...

So yes, it is A.

@Smugger was TOTALLY over that. It is additional Damage that is Unbraceable.
