Help! Decimator is...decimating.

By Ccwebb, in X-Wing Squad Lists

-Friend of mine is running, what I thought, was a simple Decimator build:

Cpt. Oicunn; Determination, Moff Jerjerrod, Ysanne Isard and Tactical Jammer.- 50 points

2 black squadron ties, one with swarm tactics. -14 & 16 points

Howl runner- swarm tactics. - 20 points

I have been trying out a Fat Han build but, he had been decimating me. I have lost 4 in a row. Is this Decimator build that good? What suggestions for a Han build? I have been running:

Han, Nien Numb, Shiled Upgrade, Title, Push the Limit -55 points

2 X A wings: prototype, Autothrusters and either stealth device or Prockets. -22 points each

Lose the shield upgrade and go with 4 Bandits instead of 2 As.

That ain't a fan Han build..... Check out the glossary sticky threads that show you how to build fat Han properly.

Decimator is pretty vulnerable to Cluster missiles.

Ditch the Shield upgrade and run 2 Bandits and 1 Tala with cluster missiles. You could even run 3 Bandits and use the spare point to give the Falcon Thread tracers to make the Bandits' lives easier.

The turn they reach Range 2, that is 18 red dice against zero agility with probably some Focus tokens to help out a bit. That should take a big chunk out of the Decimator, even if it doesn't kill it outright.

He's probably wailing on you because your ship has 1 defense die and he's running a mini swarm. Gotta dodge all those arcs, man. Hook an Engine Upgrade up to your Falcon and learn how to dodge those tiny jerks properly so your Falcon and the Decimator can duke it out proper. Fly something with more punch than those A-Wing so you can lay into the Decimator. Got any B-Wings for 22 PTs each?

That is why I tried the Prockets on the A's, but just couldn't get them into range 1 fast enough. I do have 2 B's, expansion and aces, that was my next choice. I also didn't think EU was that big of a deal on a large ship but the more videos and posts I take in, it almost seems like a must. Doesn't gunner/luke on a Han build seem like an over kill? There is already a re-roll ability, wouldn't the points be better elsewhere?

PILOTS

Han Solo (58)
YT-1300 (46), Push the Limit (3), Nien Nunb (1), Kyle Katarn (3), Millennium Falcon (1), Engine Upgrade (4)

Rookie Pilot (21) x 2

Have the Rookie Pilots fly directly at the Decimator and try to do some heavy damage to it. They'll probably explode under concentrated fire, but Han can finish off the Decimator, then he'll be free and clear to dodge the Tie Fighters all day. Just use your engines to boost out of arcs, then take a target lock action and get your free focus token from Kyle. It's not an optimal build, but it's a goofy/fun build that should suit your purposes based on your previous posts. Fly this right, and your opponent's Decimator should be in hot water.

If you think you can do without the extra maneuverability from Nien Numb, you can replace one of the X-Wings with a B-Wing, for added bulk.

The hard right with an engine upgrade will do you wonders on the falcon. Get you out of some tricky spots. My suggestion to you would be to set up a board with obstacles and just fly around for an hour or so. This will help you understand how that ship moves and how tight of a spot you can fit into.

WOW... what a difference the 2 B's made. I thought small and agile was ideal, but not if one punch takes you out. I ran with:

Han+Swarm Tactics+C-3po (I downloaded from web to see how it would work, but had Kyle Katar ready)+Title - 52 points

Blue Squad B's with FCS - 24 points each.

I did that as well, for 10 minutes, trying to figure out the opening 2 moves. Once I got it down... wow.

Thank all of y'all for advice.

Your opponent has you outgunned from sounds of it and your Han build isn't the most optimal and as stated it's not really a fat Han

Give Han

C3p0, Falcon title engine upgrade R2d2 Crew and maybe predator and now you have a fat Han

Ptl is not very good on Han even with numb in my opinion

Fill in the rest of cheap z95 or Poe and you have a pretty good build, should be able take him on easily.

If it came to Han vs decimator and other have same hp you should win. He will need to do 3 dmg just to get a hit in, where as you won't need to push as much dmg through.

The ties should have a hard time catching Han in arc with engine upgrade

If you use poe he'll wreak havoc on the ties and decimator

Be sure put autothrusters on poe.

Also with tactical jammer on the Decimator. Just shoot the Decimator.

That'll make that upgrade useless

Let him keep his ties behind the Decimator. Just don't shoot at them or your wasting your time.

And once decimator is gone it's easy peasy
