MARVEL HEROES noob

By bragi, in Legacy Game Discussion

I just traded for a copy of Marvel Heroes (please, don't ask what I gave up for it). My family's so big on superheroes, I couldn't turn it down. I've been reading some things that worry me concerning the rules and gameplay, however.

I want the first game to go smoothly so the kids don't get turned off. Any advice, simplified rules, house rules, summary sheets, or mods to make our first session be a good one?

Thanks,

Just IMO of course, but MH has a simple rule and turn structure. You get the rules presented in the order they take place in the game: Phase 1, Phase 2, Phase 3 and so on. Main action takes place during Phase 3, and you have 5 choices there.

If you can, grab a solo game playing 2 teams against one another beforehand to get a hang of things (and lessen the amount you'll need to check the rules). Once you get the turn order and choice down, games should go smoothly.

This is a great game, but the rules seem counterintuitive. It took us a long time to get our heads around the rule book (and I play plenty of more complicated games and like reading Wittgenstein).

My strongest advise is to lean the game yourself with another patient adult. Once you understand it you can easilly teach the kids.

Good luck, enjoy Marvel Heroes!

PS - there is n official FAQ document FFG released which can still be found on BGG.

I've read a lot people comment on the rules. I found them perfectly understandable, have been playing correctly from the first game. Structuring of the rules by giving the turn in order is fairly standard FFG stuff (yes, I know, it's a Nexus game to begin with).
