Not Availabe

I wonder what it means when I look up the expansions on the Fantasy Flight web site and they are all listed as unavailable. There are a few Armada ships with the same labeling as well as some X-wing but at least those are ships that haven't been released yet.

I think that's for the web store FFG runs. I looked at the X-Wing page and there's a 'add to card' option there for the two core sets.

I'd guess that means that the IA core set isn't in stock for their web store.

Due to a really weird contract interaction, FFG is not allowed to directly sell IA as it is classified as a "board game" and Hasbro has the SW board game license. You can't buy IA direct from FFG, you have to go through a seller or store.

I always heard they were pushing it as a "miniatures game" (complete with tacked on tournaments) specifically to get *around the Hasbro board game contract?

I heard the same thing, but were that true then how can Rebelion work since that is purely a board game.

Purely a guess on my part. I've not played the video game or the board game.

I know things like that happen with other IPs (Lord of the Rings games licensed from both the books and movies separately. Game of Thrones games vs Song of Fire and Ice games.)

With Rebellion, I'm sure they had to find some sort of settlement with Hasbro to do it.

They were probably able to point to all their other hugely lucrative SW games and say 'want a piece of this? Let us make it!'

Possible, the whole thing is just odd, and none of us really have any real details on what the contracts look like.

I guess it may be that they can't sell Rebellion on the webstore either. Which is in a way kinda odd, because they can sell Imperial Assault at the FFG Event Center... But perhaps a physical location is treated differently than a web store is in these contracts.
