More on TLT... quite simple idea

By Hexdot, in X-Wing

I like TLTs. Range 2-3 turrets, etc. My 2 cents about them...

LIMITED : 2 TLT per squad ( playing 100 pts )

If one or two are in play, they are very good weapons but not overpowered, IMHO.

Just an idea, no moaning...

Doesn't really make much sense from a thematic perspective.

I would have preferred them a little cheaper with a significant limitation in place, something like; once per turn after performing an attack with this weapon, you may spend a target lock to perform this attack again.

In any case I don't see anything changing now.

We already have restricted (which doesn't do much on smaller ships), faction restricted and unique upgrades. A semi-restricted is not needed.

People complain about TLTs however they were needed at the time. Due to MOV and point fortress hording thanks to super defensive ships like Soontir and Fat Han with the 2 hard damage cancellation a turn an attack was needed that could over come that while not being able to one hit kill an X-wing. TLT does exactly that.

Is 4xTLTs a) that common or b) that strong, though? I'd way rather face 4x TLT than something like the Paul Heaver Worlds list or even Stressbot/Miranda/Poe, neither of which would be affected by this change. Do we really think that KineticOperator's 3K "Danger Zone" list is so crazy strong it needs to be banned?

Two cents wasted... Thanks be given to The Lord for playing in a friendly environment and not a competitive one. Watching a table full of TLTs is like watching.200 guardsmen exchanging laserifle fire in 40K...

In a competetive enviroment you will rarely encounter quad TLTs.

I think your idea for a nerf is too clunky. I like the idea of adding a "the defender rolls one die more at range 3" clause, it might just be enough.

No sense at all.

2 TLTs are IMO the strongest option. You still got around 50 points to spend on some big ship, ultra ace or ace and sidekick. And then have fun deciding what to focus first...

3 TLTs. Depends on what they are mounted on. Ok on Kwing they look scary cause no R1 blindspot. They got output limited to 6 damage at most. That can be played against them. 3Ys + something isnt even worth noticing, cause this "something would be irrelevant and Ys 8 got less HP and blindspot.

4 TLT only one configuration here: 4 Ys. Ok little story: i played against 4TLT Ys lately. With a DECIMATOR and Vader. I lost by 3HP on last Y and event that only by Vader rolling sh*tty greens. How? By knowing that list weakspots. 2xEU and for 2 turns only 2 Ys were shooting. 4TLT got as much strenghts as weaknesses . Its just a way of knowing how to play agains it.

Seriously i dont believe people are still crying about TLTs.....5 months now and you still preffer crying for nerfban instead of learning how to play against it.

I never see more than 2 anyways. Range 3 defensive bonus for turrets would do wonders, but wave 8 will be pretty hard on TLT as well, so no action is probably required.

I've played the 4 TLTs and with BTL-A4 thrown on, unhinged astros are awesome.. went 3 and 1 last saturday and got 5th place out of about 30 or so players, and the kid that took second at worlds.. placed 3rd, I lost 4th to a friend of mine by 6 MOV points.. 3 or so weeks ago, another friend of mine took a Championship in Chicago with the list I had, we have been playing it off and on since the TLT first came out and before I saw it posted here on the boards.. it was an obvious list and was powerful at first, until people started learning how to fly against it..

the second place winner at this last weekends tourney was also a TLT Y list.. it's fun for some, and boring for others.. we all fly what we like, but I feel it isn't OP as I am a decent player and I don't always win with it..

If you're playing in a friendly environment, you don't need FFG to tell you how many TLTs you're allowed in a list. Just, you know. Talk to your opponent.

It was my 2 cent idea on the TLT topic. Not my problem, simply an idea to share. Not good, no problema. Zero drama.

I posted this elsewhere:

Simple Fix:

TLT Fix:
Attacks with this weapon do not count as secondary. This way they still hit low agility ships, but are slightly less effective, since they don't cancel that range 3 bonus defense die. Still great, but now actually worth the 6 points, instead of being under-costed by a few points. No changes to any rules, but an addition to the card. Just like the Tactician update.

Fixed.

FFG has used 3 of my suggestions so far, see my sig. Hopefully, they will implement this one too

A guy took 2nd place with 4x aggromech TLT Y's in a 33 person store champs near me. They are rarely played, and that was his first tournament. You have to know as much about your opponent/meta as you do about the strengths and weaknesses of their list. They are tough, sure. They're the new standard of damage output. Relatively easy to fly for someone starting, but can be dismantled with experience.

If your meta is full of them, build to your best advantage: Sensor Jammer. Borrow them if you have to. Get 3 ships that can use them. And fly to 3-1 or victory or better! Your area will change to a more diverse one, but someone has to take the advantage.

The day after that store champ I mentioned there was another 16 person store champ. 1st/2nd were Poe/Jake/Stressbot Y.

Here's my idea for a TLT Faq update.

TLT's are fine, move along.

Seriously folks. I took them against sensor jammer brobots and got creamed, between barely doing damage and that R1 bubble (ok so i only took 2. but still).

What would be the point of making them Limited...?

If you hate them that much start running Advanced Homing Missiles with Boba Fett (crew) when wave 8 drops.

There are 2 scum ships that can take that combo.

For the Imperial response, Tractor + Ruthlessness on TIE Defenders. Move them either within range 1 of you so they don't get a shot, or out past range 3 so they don't get a shot.

With 2 Defenders, that's half their firepower each round that you can negate, and you can even try to place them onto asteroids to cause them even more problems. Previously turret ships didn't care much about asteroids, because they didn't have to worry about which direction their ship was pointed. Now they've got a whole new reason to be scared of them.

If Glaives are no more than 33 points, there are some possibilities, you could fit 2 Glaives with a 3 point ept and a 1 point Tractor Beam, or with a different worthwhile combination and still have enough points left over for Omega Leader. As it has been stated, a 34 point generic Defender will never see the table, because Vessery's ability is worth much more than 1 point.

Wrong keyword used... fixed. :)

Ships that laugh at TLTs:

Interceptors

Starvipers

A-wings

T-70

Aggressor

There are other pilots (such as Darth Vader) and ships (Punisher) that fair pretty well against TLTs because of abilities. The TLT is just fine as it is. No fix needed.

I often like to fly two PS1 Starvipers with AT and a loaded Kath. This has destroyed a fair share of TLT heavy lists without a single loss.

Interceptors don't... too fragile for when betrayed by the green dice.

Also stressbot TLT owns them.

Soontir Fel does. Remember that for most people Interceptor = Soontir Fel.

No really. I mushed Soontir turr and Carnor with a stressbot TLT/roark TLT list. With biggs and a Z doing most nothing that game. Sheer weight of shots can be enough.

Of course, admittedly I did use blount to remove his SD first... and I did focus down and joust.

I have yet to have a single TLT hit one of my Interceptors equipped with AT. Stressbot!?!? What in the heck is an Interceptor doing in the front firing arc of a Y-wing!?!?

PS 4 and above Interceptors can take PTL and AT (and even SD on top of that!) IF by some chance a TLT manages to catch an experienced interceptor player in range it will be out of arc. My Startvipers and Interceptors make it a point to exploit that R1 bubble or stay out of firing arc.

Opening joust. He spread his 3 ints at the left, centre and right points. i just flew in screaming DAKKADAKKADAKKA with my 4 ships in a line, alternating 3 and 2 banks so not to bump with roughly an inch difference.
