Flight of the Valkyries

By That One Guy, in X-Wing

Given a Squadron is 12 planes, be interesting to make up one of the classic squadrons from the X wing universe. Lends itself to a fluff campaign or something crazy.

There you go. 12 ships. Anyone have 12 T-65 X-Wings? Lol. But it would still be super fun to try it.

I like this:

Wedge Antilles w/ R2 unit, Integrated Astromech, Crackshot (31)

Wes Janson w/ R2 unit, Integrated Astromech, Crackshot (31)

Luke Skywalker w/ R2 unit, Integrated Astromech, Crackshot (30)

Jek Porkins w/ R2 unit, Integrated Astromech, Crackshot (28)

Biggs Darklighter w/ R2 unit, Integrated Astromech (26)

Rookie Pilot w/ R2 unit, Integrated Astromech (22)

Rookie Pilot w/ R2 unit, Integrated Astromech (22)

300 points

12 tougher X-wings, with many of the original pilots. Time for a trench run!

Variant: "You'll Move When And Where I Tell You To Move..."

Epic List:

Glaive Squadron + TIE/D + Ion Cannon (37)

Glaive Squadron + TIE/D + Ion Cannon (37)

Glaive Squadron + TIE/D + Ion Cannon (37)

Glaive Squadron + TIE/D + Tractor Beam (35)

Glaive Squadron + TIE/D + Tractor Beam (35)

Glaive Squadron + TIE/D + Tractor Beam (35)

Colonel Vessery + TIE/D + Veteran Instincts + Ion Cannon (39)

Rexler Brath + TIE/x7 + Predator (38)

Leaves 7 points for seasoning your generic's EPTs to taste.

Depending on the way it works Id go with the new 0 point EPT to give them all +1/-1 PS, then you STILL have seven points for other shenanigans, such as Mark II Engines or whatever you like.

No single ship is safe.....

How about really puting the cat amongst the pigeons and fielding TWO squadrons of Z-95's with 12 points left over for characters or upgrades?

Well, if you mean fielding a total of 24 Z-95s then the "because" would be the fact that you can only field a maximum of 12 of one ship type. But I suppose the rules are only as strong as the players in a friendly game will let them be...

Well,how about 12x Z-95's + Red Sqdn X-Wing /Integrated Astromech/R2 +6x Rookie X-Wings/integrated Astromech/R2. Total points:300

I'd love to play against this list with the original list I posted. It would be really cool to see that one. Though my Planning Phase might be a taaaaad bit easier. Though with all that Ion on the board, yours might be just as easy!

Hmmm even if that list managed to Ion 4 ships on the first pass, the rest still have to deal with the other 15's return fire. May well be a very interesting game.

If you're doing those... and throwing out the restriction of the 12... I'll take 15 Kihraxz Fighters throwing 3 red dice. Will it win? Who cares? I'm rolling 45 red dice on the first engagement (assuming perfect flying).

Not throwing out the restriction,it's 12+7,so if he Ions 4 ships, there are still another 15 non-ioned ships to contend with.

If this list could shoot first that would be a min of 45 dice too.

True, but the Defenders shoot first, can token strip, can barrel roll, and bring more evade dice to the table relative to attack dice thrown their way. They'd also be attacking with secondary weapons half the time, denying ranged combat bonuses (if applicable). Not sure if I can say which side might fare better though, I suppose it would come down to the dice.

Oh, though it's probably a lot easier to bring 8 ships into optimal engagement range than 19. So assuming an approach is made from setup (being across the board from each other) chances are that between 1/4 and 1/3 of the Headhunters just plain ol' can't even fit in the available space to take their shots.

Oh man, now I really really really REALLY wanna see this actually happen!

Do it on Vassal for the theorycrafting... it would be interesting to see how many ships you can actually focus fire with. I need to look into that more so I have some half-baked knowledge when I finally fly my Epic ships...

Do you not get to play Epic much/at all?
