Need a REBEL solution to a major Rhymer Ball in a 535 point game...Tx.

Ruthless Strategists, MOAR Y's NEEDS MOAR Y's.

I think the YT 1300's work for Ruthless Strategies

But cost more, and dont have bomber for when the ships finish cleaning the dirty rhymer ball!

The only difference is 1 speed, 1 less blue die, no bomber and counter 1. They roll a blue die anyways so 50-50

If you were an Imperial player, I'd strongly recommend a wing of Raider-1s (read two or three, with the titles), outfitted with OE and QLT, with a wing of TIE fighters (read four to six) to keep the bombers off the Raiders until the job is done. As an Imperial player, I can tell you the biggest irritation to a Rhymer ball is being forced to hold position, then being tabled around it. With such heavily upgraded ships, concentrating your efforts on bypassing them and striking the ships should be a very very high priority. They'll yield buckets of points, and could potentially allow you to let a perfunctory fighter wing get mauled if it holds off the Rhymer wing.

Here's the other trick, and this is going to require a lot of practice, planning, and footwork. Oh yeah, and a suicidal ship. Hit the ball with a ship. Yeah, you read that right, pick a cruise missile and launch it. Its job isn't to kill anything, but to pull apart the formation. Escort and Intel are both Distance 1 effects, and Dengar's ace effect is Distance 2. She may get to place the squadrons afterwards, but the physical size of a ship forces something to give. (I love this trick in Raiders on Rebel bomber wings.) Once the new formation appears, and I mean that turn, snipe whatever is available. A-wings are best for this, giving you some range around the ball to play with. If the Advanced are exposed, shred them. If Rhymer or Dengar are unshielded, throw all your fighters and the kitchen sink at them. Rhymerballs cannot hold formation once struck by a ship, and as soon as you do that, pick off something, even if it's just the minor annoyances like Fel and Vader. That ship is almost certainly dead, but Flight Controllers and A-wings can make it worth it by disrupting the synergy and throwing the entire, rather more delicate than it looks, affair to pieces. Once the ball falls apart, those units are much less effective by themselves (although by no means ignore them). Hope this helps, let me know if there is something you want me to elaborate on. I personally love huge games, and playing with my SO (though she is yet to win tee hee). Best of luck Admiral.

Same cost.

Y - 10pts, 2 blue, 3 speed, 6 hull, bomber, no counter

YT1300 - 13pts, 3 blue, 2 speed, 7 hull, no bomber, counter 1
