Yoda crew card

By TheBard, in X-Wing

In the spirit of my other post on ideas for Obi Wan crew someone asked about Yoda. Certainly this.

"Once per round you may take the one straight template and move an asteroid that distance in any direction."

Holy crap awesome.....! Whole new strategy layer added to the game and would so so much fun.....!

Probably pretty high cost? I don't know but all I know is I want it! FFG you have officially been informed of the best upgrade card idea ever.

Anyone else have good ideas for a Yoda crew card, do share!

Well, Yoda's most famous line is "Do or do not. There is no try." And he's the anti-Emperor. So...

"After a friendly ship makes an attack or defense roll, you may discard this card to change the results on any number of dice to any other result. Dice changed this way cannot be modified again."

That's certainly a DO right there. :D

I think Yoda would be themed to "knowledge and defense" so I would like something like: "once per turn you may set all defense dice to [evade]" or "when your opponent reveals his first maneuver dial, he must reveal all maneuver dials, then discard Yoda"

Let's be honest here... Civil War era Yoda crew would read:

"Discard this card when it is needed the most."

It should be something involving green dice. A while ago, I made this up: at the beginning of e game, you roll n green dice, and set them apart. As long as Yoda is in play, whenever someone rolls green dice, you can substitute one of the results for one of the results you set apart. That result is then used up, i.e. you can't use Yoda more often than n.

Ah well, it was just an idea. Probably too much text for one card.

"once per round a friendly ship may perform a free focus action"

Or

"Once per round you may remove a stress token from a friendly ship at the start of the combat fase"

No range restrictions :)

I highly doubt we will see him anytime soon tough...

I like the moving asteroids idea!

You could Gonkify it using Evade tokens

Yoda

Action: place an evade token on this card

Action: remove an evade token from this card to assign one to a friendly ship at Range 1

I really like the asteroid idea, but this is arguably the most powerful Jedi we've ever seen. A focus-related ability seems appropriate.

Yoda; unique; Rebel Alliance; crew; 3 points

Action: Place 1 focus token on this card.

Action: Remove all of the focus tokens from this card to assign that number of focus tokens to friendly ships in any combination.

I think we're more likely to see Yoda as a Huge ship only crew. So maybe more like:

Yoda; unique; Rebel Alliance; crew; Huge ship only; 4 points

Energy: Spend 1 energy to place 1 focus token on this card.

Action: Remove all of the focus tokens from this card to assign that number of focus tokens to other friendly ships in any combination.

"The first time you fail to hit your target, perform a free cryptic Yoda advice action that doesn't actually help solve the issue."

Yoda 10 point crew

At the begining of the game, you may take something your opponent owns. If he fights to get it back, you may beat him with a stick until he mentions Yoda, at which point you may keep the item, but you must stop beating him

I like the moving asteroids idea!

I'm wondering how this would work mechanically without there being massive disputes about final placements. Did the rock get rotated at all? Do both opponents have to agree? And how easy would that be to agree if it's a critical game moment. An open window for easy subtle cheating? Obviously I like the idea but implementing may be a challenge? Surely it can work! :). Maybe you can add a rock to the board at range one of you each round. Ok now I'm getting silly, or maybe not? Ha

Move a rock using a 1-straight from any angle and rotate it as much as you like, it's just that some part of the rock must touch the 1-straight ruler when finishing the action.

I think it would be great if FFG could figure out how to price it right.

I think the rules for fairly moving an obstacle during play would require a little more space than we have available on upgrade cards. But something like this might work:

Choose any 1-speed maneuver template and place it anywhere in contact with the edge of the chosen obstacle without overlapping anything. Pick up the obstacle, then place it anywhere in contact with the edge of the template without overlapping anything. Remove the template.

Yes great idea! And how to word it in short text may or may not be a problem. Unless the card just said this.

"Once per round an obstacle of your choice may perform a free barrel roll action and face any direction of your choice." Easy. Solved :)

I think Yoda would be themed to "knowledge and defense".....

Considering that Yoda practices Form IV, Ataru, one of the most aggressive of all the lightsaber Forms (only behind Vaapad and Shien/Djem So), I kind of doubt he'd be "defense" based.

And this would certainly bring in an unused ship in the current meta. The HWK! Double win for FFG

Yoda is like the emperor riding in a shuttle currently. They faced off against each other in the movies as well and so are similar and both have range negating abilities mmm theme

On second thought maybe it would need to be range specific. Like range 1. I could see this being too OP vs like a Fel type ship. He's basically screwed from the beginning which isn't cool.

And imagine playing vs Emoeror with Yoda moving asteroids and Emperor constantly canceling hits on asteroid rolls. Quite the thematic battle!

Asteroid moving Yoda would be awesome on Torkil

...I can imagine Yoda being for huge ships only.

How would overlapping a ship work? Would it be allowed? Roll for damage or not? Maybe not since it could be too brutal or maybe it's supposed to be? When during the round would make the most sense to be able to do this?

Imagine how epic it would be if is at the end phase, it can overlap, damage is rolled, and winning a game with Yoda....

Clone Wars Yoda had his own little tankie starfighter.

The first mini base ship!

Maybe it takes an Action and happens at end phase like he's concentrating..... :)

Yoda - 12pts

"When a friendly small ship reaches 0 Hull and would be removed from play, you may discard this card instead and remove all damage cards from that ship."

Kinda like a certain xwing being recovered from a swamp :P

Or Yoda at 9pts

"At the beginning of the activation phase, choose 1 friendly ship anywhere in the play area. Remove all stress tokens from that ship. That ship may perform 1 free action."

But it must be worded as Yoda would speak!

"Take the one straight template, you may, that distance in any direction, once per round, move an asteroid."
