Many people advocate buying singles, but I'm not one of them. I've found singles to be horribly expensive esp for a continuous print item. The kihraxz (as well as a few other ships) has plenty of cards favored in the current meta so you'll have good trade stock anyway.

I'd recommend upgrading one kihraxz to a yv666 however if you can spare the cash. There are a bunch of upgrades in that set that don't come with any imp set either eg engine upgrade, lone wolf, stay on target, etc. And if you one day decide to try play em, you'll find 5 is the max kihraxzs you can fit in 100 pts

I would nevrr buy 6 ships to obtain six cards, but never bought a Black Lotus in MTG. If you fly "by the book" you need original cards. So it is Ok in that environment.

My aim is to own a fleet so big that I can play any scenario I imagine. So 12 X, 24 Tie, 8 Y, etc. Some people tells me this is stupid. Why own more than 12 ships of a single model as an absolute maximun?

Because we do not play 100 or 300 pts, much broader mind while writing x wing ideas. I will never buy 6 ships to obtain.six cards, but it is normal in certain conditions.

Yep it comes down to how much you as the player value each component of the package that is each expansion.

I wouldn't expect them to be popular enough to get good prices/trades for the ships and pilots, as most people who will buy them will want to get the good cards that come with them as well. I know if I wanted to obtain more Kihraxz, it wouldn't be by ebaying singles without Crack Shot.

But as noted above, you can probably make a decent chunk of your money back by ebaying off the Predators and Glitterstims.

I suspect not (in terms of being able to sell the ships sans crackshot). Anyone interested in flying a Khiraxz swarm will buy the ships themselves and keep/sell the crackshot.

Imperial Veterans also comes with a copy, so 6 would definitly be overkill. My Crackshot aquisition plan is 2 Imperial Veteran packs, 3 K-Things, 1 Hounds Tooth. I already own 1 K-Thing and the Hounds Tooth.

Very different purposes. You spam Crackshot on cheap ships and use it as guaranteed 6 damage. Thats a dead Poe! Black Squadron Pilot with Crackshot? Really good. Black Squadron Pilot with Predator? Mediocre at best. IGs also like Crackshot as PS8 doesn't really get anywhere and Predator is pointless with FCS.

So, thank you all for your input, I have decided for now that I will put the idea of a crackblack swarm on the back burner...

I want to see how further Scum develop as a faction - if they start looking a bit tastier (in my eyes) then I may expand at which point buying the Khiraxz will not be a bad idea (and I don't have the money available to buy them now to "put away" knowing I have other ships id rather buy to build up the collection...)

I also need to see how many Imp Vet boxes I want to buy as well s if further waves for imperials have this card in them.

As far as the crackblack swarm goes, i'm currently enjoying running triple aces and, having just grabbed a tie/x1 and adv targeting computer i may further play around with this format.

You could easily get away with 2 Khiraxz and a YV-666 that way, which could be a solid foundation for a scum build later down the road (or at least, not waste ships if a Khiraxz veteran ship comes up later).

Sometimes, having friends can help save money (unless of course if they get you hooked on X-Wing, in which case, it's the other way around, lol).
