Damage Control and System Strain recovery question

By n107, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I've been reading on the Internet people saying that only 1 SS is recovered for a successful DC check, regardless of how many successes remain uncancelled. Where is that written? The rule book clearly states on pg 233 that 1 point is recovered "per success".

And if it's only 1 total, what becomes of extra successes or advantages?

Thank you.

I only recently learned of this change while brushing up on the errata for a game I was starting. My printing of the EotE core certainly doesn't have the "per success" wording. I thought being able to reduce SS by only 1 per check was the balance to being able to do it as often as desired. There are plenty of checks where extra successes don't impact the game.

I'm fairly certain that any "misinformation" was most likely caused by the wording of the (most likely, pre-errata'd) text.

My first printing book says (p. 233) that a Damage Control check can recover one system strain. Period. But it also says that a Damage Control checks can be made as many times as wanted/needed to reduce system stain to zero (but still only one check per player per turn). But wait! There's more! On the next page, it seems to contradict that when it says that PCs can only attempt one Damage Control check per encounter. Is that one, total? One per character? It seems to imply the latter (since if pluralizes "PCs"), but that's only my opinion.

The errata clarified it bit, adding the one SS per success, once per encounter part.

I've got a first printing book as well, and it does specifically call out that the one Damage Control per encounter is specifically when trying to recover Hull Trauma.

Yes, that is correct. My mistake, Lathrop, that does refer to hull trauma.

So which is the change: only one strain total or 1 per success? I even checked my FaD book and it says "per success" so I'm thinking that's the final ruling or it wouldn't have made it into books years later.

1 per success is the change and how it is now. 1 total is how it was originally printed in older books, either because that was the original intent or a mistake in wording.

Thank you for all the help. I appreciate it.
