What does the set do for the Tie fighters in a non epic games? The last imperial large ship gave a boost to the Tie advanced. So what does this do for the normal tie fighter.
Imperial assault carrier
Do you think as a non epic player that it is worth it to add for normal play?
Okay thanks for the response on the other thread....Most helpful
For standard play, it provides 4 new tie fighter pilots and a spiffy blue paint job tie fighter. It also adds Agent Kallus crew, which lets you change 1 eyeball to a hit or evade when attacking or defending against a target ship you choose at the start of the game. Agent Kallus is decent and reasonably fun, but he didn't impress me.
I tested all the tie pilots and here's what I found:
Scourge gets +1 attack die when attacking a ship with at least 1 damage card. In the late game, and probably in epic play, he's an alpha squadron pilot with +6 free pilot skill and an elite pilot talent. But most of the time he's just a more expensive, higher-skill black squadron pilot, so not that exciting.
Youngster lets other tie fighters perform her equipped elite pilot talent's action. Rage from wave 8 may change this, but all actions on elite pilot talents so far aren't worth putting on one ship, so giving them to all your ships is still terrible (Marksmanship is okay for niche combos with multiple attacks).
Wampa can, if he rolls a kaboom, cancel his attack dice to deal 1 facedown damage card. His ability is amazing, but triggers pretty much never unless you use a combo to increase the odds of rolling kabooms. He's still a bargain at 14 points though, and really the only pilot that seems to be able to make it to top-tier tournament play, although as kind of a fringe card.
Chaser can pick up a focus token spent from a tie fighter at range 1. Her ability is super awkward. It's difficult to get her into a situation where she is the target on defense so that her second focus token matters. You can't really combo the free focus with the rest of the action bar actions, including barrel roll because she needs to stay at range 1, so it's hard to get value out of it. Chaser was pretty much a flop for me.
Wampa has been taking the meta by storm lately.
Also, you can actually try the scenarios that come with it. I've found it to be quite fun.
