4 questions from a curious guy.

By player1628189, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hello ppl,

Iam interested to get this game but have some very important factors to take into account.

1. How much space does the game take up on the table (only have living room table available)

2.is there certain order in which i have to get stuff? E.g. can i grab manor of ravens right after the coreset and use it completely?

3. If i get a lieutenant pack do i require the expansion or does he come complete with rules?

4.same as above but only about the collections and i heard those are first edition stuff reboots.

Thx alot in advance.

1. We have a pretty small table (hardly enough room for Merchants and Marauders), but were able to play comfortably even pretty big maps.

2. You need a base game, and then you can buy whatever you want, pretty much.

3. You should be good to use it as an agent without any additional expansions.

4. They come with everything you need to incorporate into the base game.

To add to what SpawnGarret said:

1. I've played this game on a card table- I wouldn't want to go a whole lot smaller.

2-4. Every expansion* for this game is designed to be fully functional without requiring anything other than the base game. That is, you can purchase any combinations of expansions in any order you choose.

*One notable exception is the cooperative expansion "Dark Elements" which requires both the base game AND the "Lair of the Wyrm" expansion to function.

My 'boardgame table' is placed on top of my Ikea table which is 140x84 cm. An average quest (with 2 people each playing 2 heroes in this case) takes about this much space: https://www.dropbox.com/s/pkt1h83079h0jfe/2016-01-19%2022.48.39.jpg?dl=0

Compare that to the size of your table to get an idea

Can I please come and play on your table? I don't take up much space and I can bring my own food

Either that or I've just decided on my next project.

I play on an IKEA regissor coffee table. It allows for a comfortable seat on the coach and a good overview because it is a low table. We play often with 5, so an IKEA LAX table is often used for some extra space. The best part: those tables are exactly the same height.

But you could also make a rig of just LAX tables, they are 5 euros a piece so also very affordable:)

And if I had to recommend an expansion, I would say Shadow of Nerekhall or Lair of the Wyrm, depending on how much you are willing to spend.

To answer your questions:

1.) Picture is worth a thousand words:

So here's two:

Descent5_zpsmvo3wfpv.jpg

2) There really isn't a certain order you need to obtain expansions in. Big Box Expansions like Shadows of Nerekhall and Lab of Ruin each have full campaigns, while each smaller set has a campaign you can play or implement into the full campaigns. The components, like the shop cards, conditions and monsters are integrated into the supplies and are available to use during any gameplay. It's very easy.

3) You don't need the expansion to get any Lieutenant. Lieutenant packs contain: The Lieutenant's Figure, a unique Plot deck with which you can integrate into a campaign and Threat Tokens.

4) The H&M Collections do have mostly heroes and monsters from 1st Edition, though they are updated. Each Collection comes with 4 usable Heroes and 3 Monster groups. They also come with quests that can be integrated into Campaigns.

Please note however that the 4 figures in the background on Omnislash's second picture are part of the upcoming H&M pack "The Backyard Menace".

Edit: Where do you roll the dices on that table? :)

Well, we are short 2 people in our group at the moment (hence the two people playing 2 heroes) so if you were to live in Belgium.. :P

THIS is a table !!

up to now the only thing similar I found was somithing like this ( http://www.legacygamehd.com ) .. but the price is far from given, and it's far to go there !

But as it seems there can be similar things in Belgium (with some additional tools : I love the lights !) !! ;-P

It's possible to PM me where I can find such things ??!! ;-) ... please !!

Well, its not something you can just buy. I built it myself. :) (mainly for descent)

Its 2 separate pieces, so it can still be stored away relatively easily. Here a picture when I was building it https://www.dropbox.com/s/96960m3odu0hgjk/2015-09-20%2012.52.40.jpg?dl=0

Basically, it's one MDF plate from the local hardware store which was sawed to just the right measurements that I could get 2 big pieces for table itself and 6 smaller pieces for the 'armrest' around the table out of 1 plate.

Then you just need some wooden beams to go around the table to actually lift the armrest up off the table and to place the lights (which are just 2 ' Dioder ' ledstrips from Ikea) on.

I then used some pieces of felt to and stuck them all over the table. I used 40x40cm pieces which I found in some crafts store around here, which I do not recommend.

If you can find felt as big as your table (I did not look around to much, still regret it) it would be a lot better. Those 40x40 pieces weren't exactly 40x40 and so, while it was easier to get the black/red effect (to match the interior of my living room) the table does show seams and a few mismatches.

Then just finish of around the edges with these L shaped plastic things (can't come up with an English word for them atm) which you can also find at the hardware store.

Done! I would guess it cost me somewhere between €100 and €200 in materials? Much better than (though not as fancy as) the €3000 or €10000 in your link :P Just requires a bit of handiwork :)

(Sorry to go a bit off topic here guys)

Please note however that the 4 figures in the background on Omnislash's second picture are part of the upcoming H&M pack "The Backyard Menace".

Indalecio- I use the glass to roll the die. I just drop em em, they don't roll everywhere and they make a nice clinking sound. :)

Those gnomes are big supporters.

Thx for the informations :)

I know. But that's an old quest.
