So I finally got a few games in...

By DariusAPB, in X-Wing

It's been a while.

I really wanted to play this list, so I did. Firstly Credit where credit is due - Thank you to Warpman for inspiring this list, saying HWKS suck. They do not.

The list:

==================
Sunrider Flight #5
==================

100 points

Pilots
------

Roark Garnet (27)
HWK-290 (19), Twin Laser Turret (6), Jan Ors (2)

Gold Squadron Pilot (26)
Y-Wing (18), BTL-A4 Y-Wing (0), R3-A2 (2), Twin Laser Turret (6)

Biggs Darklighter (26)
X-Wing (25), R2 Astromech (1), Integrated Astromech (0)

Lieutenant Blount (21)
Z-95 Headhunter (17), Ion Pulse Missiles (3), Deadeye (1)

Firstly. Against 3 Imperial aces, I smashed it. 0 casualties my side, soontir dead first turn. It was brutal. I didn't even get my ion missile off (closed distance too fast). Stressbot completely screwed my enemy up, Roark reliably TLTed things to death causing my friends to rage against TLT. Just as planned.

Next up was Brobots. I lost this one. Closed distance too fast to get ion off again (I will note to slow down). The brobots both had sensor jammer and wingman. as well as flachette and autoblaster cannons. The brobots in question were B and C. I could barely scrach them. Biggs was saved from a 3 crit kill by ejecting his R2 but the second brobot finished him off, and i just couldn't reliably damage through the sensor jammers and heavy evade. Each brobot also had inertial dampeners. Ironically my friends soontir, carnor, turr team ripped this a new one (the one that was obliterated by my above list).

My question: How do I deal with this.

I will say that due to wingman, my biggest mistake was trying to pile on stress, i shoulda saved that for focus and K turns on the Y-wing. I also engaged too fast, missing my chance to ion.

I've been flying a similar list.

Biggs Darklighter — X-Wing 25 R4-D6 1 Integrated Astromech 0 Ship Total: 26

Gold Squadron Pilot — Y-Wing 18 Twin Laser Turret 6 R3-A2 2 BTL-A4 Y-Wing 0 Ship Total: 26

Gold Squadron Pilot — Y-Wing 18 Twin Laser Turret 6 Ship Total: 24

Blue Squadron Pilot — B-Wing 22 Fire-Control System 2 Ship Total: 24

Brobots are a hard counter list, but they are difficult for everyone. Swarms are also a hard counter for a 4 ship low PS Rebel list due to the 1 or 2 defence dice. Your opponent is going to damage you more easily than you can penetrate their 3 evade dice with tokens. You have to slow roll the list and try to get the stresshog arc onto priority targets in the first engagement while focus firing with as many of the squad as possible onto the same target. Doing 1 and 2 moves you should be able to get two rounds of firing in before the furball and either the squad breaks up or Biggs dies and the squad doesn't need to stay in formation anymore.

I ran my list in a store championship yesterday and went 2 and 2 with a final MOV of 478. I lost to a Z95 swarm list and a good S&V list. Both games I lost I made some tactical errors and focused on incorrect targets which allowed the other ship I should have focused down first to rip my list up leaving me without enough firepower to deal with the end game.

And here i thought you meant canasta.

I don't quite follow...

How often did you trigger Jan, in total?

Against the Brobots, I'd probably go slow, very slow. Then fire the stressbot at PS12 first.

When dealing with Brobots, hang out on your side of the board with asteroids heavy on your side of the board. Coax them in then turn to face when they are getting to R-3. Being more to one side of the board will make their turn around choices harder and more predictable and hopefully through an asteroid.

Brobots are a tough nut with their incredible jousting power. I think combining the IPM with Stressbot stress is your key here. Do that on whichever IG it is opportune, know exactly where it will be next turn without actions, hope for the best on that turn.

In the aces fight, Jan got triggered 3 times. Everything went to plan.

Jan was only triggered once in brobots, as i cocked up and bumped biggs one turn, he took a flachette the next, and was ripped apart the third.

I wonder if Biggs wouldn't be better off with R4-D6, what with two HLC's on him, that combined with an Evade token and green dice should allow him to live that bit longer.

I think based on how the flight went you are probably right. In either game, not a single R2 Green maneuver was used.

I'll amend the list.

R4-D6 triggered three times in four games yesterday, 2 HLC shots and a Procket strike. Saved Biggs from a total of 4 points of damage and kept him alive one more round each time.

It would have saved him for another turn yesterday. So definitely amended that. Especially where Biggs is covering for 2 terribad dials so will likely never need the green turns.
