Angry Space Triangles - Armada Write-Ups

By jhox, in Star Wars: Armada

Hi all,

To avoid persistently threadromancing old posts, and to avoid spamming the board with new topics, I'm going to post my latest Armada ramblings in this thread, starting with a review of Rebel ships.

My blog posts related to Armada have proven really successful - much more so than my amateurish film reviews - so I just wanted to thank you for your continued readership.

Cheers all,

Jhox.

A great group of articles, I can't believe it's taken me this long to read through them. Keep it rolling!

Like the blog. Thanks for posting.

Thanks guys! Next one will hopefully be up soon. With fancy pictures and everything.

I'm rather surprised you haven't had a lot of experience with the CR-90, Nebulon-B, and MC30. These are staples in my local meta, moreso the Neb and Mc30 than the CR-90. I feel the Rebellion can get a lot more out of their smaller ships than the Empire with their tempermental Raider and one-trick Gladiator. Nebulon-Bs alone can be kitted out between the healy Redemption, Nasty Salvation, or Fighter-killer Yavaris.

Sorry, but redundant shields is not the way to go on the MC80 Assualt ....advance projectors and EMCs. Not everything has X-17s and one shield a turn is not worth 8 points when you'll use 2-3 times usually and sometimes 4.

The MC30 is not a gun

One ship so your evaluation of them is based on you local meta. The ships banks a speed token going two and then uses a movement command to go 4 ...right past your arcs of doom and delivered TLR and maybe Rapid Assault to two ships. Fragile no. Add advanced projections, admonition, and Walex. I see your 6 dice and take 3- 4 away, lose the shields from the side I don't want of spread them out if Squdrons are around, etc. Walex give me my evade back for the TLR and next turn I am swinging around at now speed three with a movement another order. These things need stacks of movement orders to do what they need with is zoom up and get enough clicks to get between two ships and also enough extra yaw clicks to make a tight turn to get in the fight again. Using this strategy not only is it impossible to kill the ship on the first run it still will have plenty of shields left for the second. Too bad there is only one admonition.

Hi all, another article, this one a bit heftier. I've called it "How to Kill Ackbar" with no small amount of hubris. Hopefully it's of interest to a few of you!

It's always interesting to see how different some communities are. I play mainly on Vassal right now, where CR90s and MC30s are all the rage. Personally, my squadron builds rarely leave home without Yavaris. It's a challenge to fly, but well worth it. It sounds like you play a lot of Ackbar Home One/AFII builds, which have gone out of favor on Vassal. An Ackbar list didn't even make the quarterfinals of the World Cup. We seem to be getting back to the basics of high activation counts. TRCs on CR90s seem to have a lot to do with that. I'm guessing you don't see a lot of Mon Mothma, because CR90s and MC30s work wonderfully with her.

Another post has just gone up - a quick fix of some more lessons I've learned from tournament play based on my experiences.
