Store Tournament List. 2nd Place!

By nazgull2k1, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

Knowing full well I was going to be possibly be facing a Vader's Finest list and that STUPIDLY overpowered Rebel Trooper list (that is currently completely unstoppable.)

I went in trying to counter these current FoTM Meta lists.. with rather impressive results.

2 x E Wampa

1 x E HK

1 x E Sab

1 x MHD-19

I can say this.. the Wampas are absolute BEASTS in combat. My GAWD the damage they put out is insanity. I used the Wampa instead of the Meta nexu for 2 simple reasons..

1 - I wanted a LoS blocker that was more effective in combat then Nexu, and Wampa clearly delivers.

2 - Nexu takes up 4 spaces, Wampa takes up 2. Meaning shots thru them only have to go 1 space to clear, as opposed to 2.

Strategy was stupidly simple.. I put a Wampa and 2 HKs up on way, and a Wampa and 2 Sabs the other way... with impressive results.

I was about to feel REALLY proud of myself, until I faced the current OP Trooper list... I got to fire ONE time.. once.. ONE.. and got tabled. It was just.. wow.

Either way, I was still able to pull 2nd Place. It's a good list!~

What is this supposedly OP rebel trooper list?

What i this supposedly OP rebel trooper list?

i would like to know as well.

It's basically 2x Elite Rebel Troopers, Gideon, Luke and C3P0 and something else.. I didnt live long enough to actually see the models. It's the 6 Rebel Troopers Focused that obliterate everything you put in front of it that isnt a White Defense Die that you somehow roll X's on all day. Unless HE rolls just awful damage on 3 friggen dice.. you lose. It went completely undefeated at our tournament, and was a top 16 list at Nationals. It only lost 1 game, and that was to the champion. It's literally a zero skill, no fail list. It was just unbelievable to look at in action. If you havent seen it/played against it, I guarantee you will at the closest store championships this year.. just look for the 1st place list.

*edit* it's an Elite Sab unit that I forgot.

2 X E Reb Troop

1 Gideon

1 Luke

1 3p0

1 x E Sab

I'm sorry, but I can't shake of the feeling that you are trying to make a bad joke.

How can they compete with an eStormies list?

Yes you get a good start in turn 2 with those 6 focused figures, but you need to spent your first turn completly to get them focused. Tournament games last mostly 3 rounds, so you get 2 attacks out of each trooper at most. How would they do more dmg in 2 attacks with one being focused then 3 attacks from eStormies which have better dice, the reroll ability and surge +2 dmg and they do 3 attacks each which maybe a focused attack.

Let's assume you get 4 of your troopers killed during the game and you have the reinforcement card. Let's just assume a trooper is killed after it is activated on both sides. So that are 6 troopers with 18 attacks which are 14 attacks with Blue/Green and 4 attacks with Blue/Green/Green. That are 30 attack dice vs 18 defense dice.

On the rebel side you got 12 attacks : 6 with focus and 6 without focus. So you have 6 Blue/Yellow/Green and 6 Blue/Yellow which are 18 attack dice vs 12 defense dice.

Even if we assume that every rebel trooper gets to use the aim bonus every time (which they won't ) that +1 dmg with the surge for pierce 2 doesn't come up dmg wise with the reroll ability and the +2dmg on the troopers.

Regarding your statement that they kill everything with one shot if you don't evade :

Let's assume the elite rebel trooper is focused and attacks an elite Stormie (5 Health, 1 Black Defense die)

1) The rebel has a 10% chance to one hit the eStormie.

2) The rebel has Aim and with that it is 36% chance to one hit.

3) The rebel has Aim and the eStormie has Protector => 20% chance

4) No aim for the rebel trooper and eStormie has Protector => 4% chance

On the other hand an UNFOCUSED eStormie has a 3% chance to one hit an eRebel. And if the eStormie is focused he has a 39% Chance to one hit that rebel trooper. And that is without the reroll, so you have something like 45~50% Chance to one hit the rebel trooper.

Prove me wrong, but I don't see how this works.

I've seen it work, but "currently completely unstoppable" is a vast exaggeration.

As probably the biggest defender of Elite Rebel Troopers on this board, I have to say that they're not that good. You trade getting literally nothing: no objectives, no terminals, no attacks with almost half your army for focuses. It can work depending on the rest of your list getting first turn things, but it requires skillful positioning and you have to hope your opponent can't bring significant strength to bear in the first round.

In this rotation of very large maps, you're less likely to engage on the first turn, but that also means you'll have to move before shooting second round, denying you aim bonuses. Personally, I prefer 3x Echoes. Same number of figures, much better mobility, more activation.

Seems like a personal issue to me. If you keep throwing your figures into the line of sight of all 6 troopers no wonder they die. Anyone (nearly) would die.

His list would instantly be better with no rebel troopers, another elite sab, and one of several other better options to round out the list.

Pretty much this.
