Gozanti: A Deadly Behemoth

By That One Guy, in X-Wing

So tonight I got the chance to run a few Epic games. I decided to put my Raider aside and instead run a build I've been theorizing for a while.

It dominated.

Gozanti Class Cruiser

Title: Supressor or Vector (your choice)

Modification: Automated Protocols

Crew: Rear Admiral Chiraneau, Construction Droid

Team: Engineering Team

Cargo: Docking Clamps, Engine Booster

Hardpoint: Ion Cannon Battery

Wait, Ion Cannon? Not Twin Dorsal Turret?

Yup. Deployed and flown correctly, this ship doesn't need a turret. Use speedy maneuvers out of the gate to get where you need to be, and even if you spend that 1 energy to trigger Engine Boosters you can still gain it back and then some with Engineering Team and your maneuver. Use it to head straight for the fighters that are protecting your opponent's Huge ship. Then use the Ion Battery to trap them, and maneuver accordingly. Steamroll through the opponent's front line. Crush what doesn't get out of the way, engage with support fighters anything that manages to flee. Fly the cruiser like a crazy person. Once it's barreled past the front line, deploy your own ships to deal with their huge ship (in this case, I used Jonus and a Scimitar bomber). If need be, deploy Jonus early to assist the Ion Battery's shots (just know that he'll be much more effective working with the other bombers that launch). Once you get to this point, any extra rounds the Gozanti survives are just gravy. It can be a hard beast to kill too, thanks to the other combo.

Rear Admiral, or any other action, triggers Automated Protocols, which in turn can trigger Construction Droid if necessary. And even though it may take a while to turn around, you can essentially just consider the ship useless (but many players will still be trying to focus it down anyway). And if your opponent has a secondary line? ALL THE BETTER! Do it all again! Over two games I crushed 6-7 fighters, and dealt significant ramming damage to a transport, but never actually lost the Cruiser (2 hull was as close as I got, but by then everything on that side of the board was dead, so I got to take my sweet time gaining back my shields and hull).

So much fun.

Need moar epic posts. Never flown my gozanti or raider....no idea how they work.

Keep it coming.

my favorite kill was the very first. Opponent flew E'tahn at me, thinking he had plenty of time to pull away. Snap a range 3 shot, turn away and skim past, get behind me... he wasn't expecting turn 1 to be Engine Booster, 4 straight forward, RAC, then Ion Cannon Battery. The look on his face, as he only evaded 2 of the 3 hits... realizing he had nowhere to go... it was utterly priceless. Second turn, Tarn tried to hard turn out of the way (away from E'tahn) but I performed another Engine Boost, then banked 1 left, swinging the aft section out to crush A'baht and running over Tarn with the Fore. The only damage I ended up taking was from the Debris Field that had the audacity to get in the way, which was a "then flip this card face down" type crit, and was removed in the next round by Construction Droid.

Edit: Though I did accidentally kill one of the escorting TIE FIghters... but who cares. 14 points for the Black Squadron, and in return I killed an X-Wing and an E-Wing.

This amused me to no end, good work, haha!

Who would have thought those carriers were made for running things over...ah this is grand. Here, I liked this so much that I have decided to create you a tribute.

Oh god my sides... did you make that?

Yeah, just had some spare time and a print screen key really.... but man I really had not thought of comboing all those forward moves together before to just ram the ship down into other squadrons, it is just such a hilarious use... you are really making me want to pick up a Gozanti now. Not many guys at the local stores mess around with epic but maybe I can convince them to do so.

That someone bothered to actually make a thing, seriously it makes me so happy and it was so funny. I died laughing for like two minutes.

But yeah this was not the ship they were expecting. It's one of those things that is just really hard to deal with if you don't already know it's coming, because once that huge ship gets in the middle of the fight...

a) half your dial may suddenly become garbage

b) that ship you want to kill may be across from it, thereby obstructing your attacks, or worse...

c) turning to attack the one you want to kill may get you crushed to death

d) coordinate

e) bumping it won't just lose you actions, you may also take damage even if you aren't crushed

f) it can potentially move more than it's base length in a round, and you can't attack the bombers until it lets you, meaning...

g) they can deploy and be on top of you in just a round or two (depending on exactly where and when you deploy them

Seriously though, this combo reminds me of Trample in D&D 3.5: you can make your AoO, or you can get out of the way, but not both...

For my bombers, I had Jonus and Scimitar, each with extra munitions, ion pulse missiles, and concussion missiles. After deploying, as soon as they could get their TLs, I'd have the Scimitar fire its concussion missiles (since it gets no focus, but has Jonus rerolls and the blank-to-hit ability of the missiles), and Jonus, with just his TL and no focus and no rerolls from his own ability, fires the ion pulse missiles because they can use their own TL since you don't need to spend it to fire them. But chances are you won't need to spend it anyway. That means that next turn, it's his turn to focus, thereby firing with focused concussion missiles, and the Scimitar having spent its TL in the previous round can now reacquire it and fire the Ion Pulse missiles, which means that it likely will be able to carry its TL into the next round (should it be necessary). Basically this means that once they spend energy to recover shields, it's likely the last thing they'll spend energy on. It's a fairly cheap combo for loaded bombers, but good god was it effective.

Remember that RAC allows you to deploy all your ships in a single turn any how, so you don't need that title. Deloy first two from the movement on dial, then the other 2 from the RAC action because that counts as a manuever.

Edit: So just reread engine booster, that works as well. So no need for vector.

Oh, vector is also for the extra energy, if your build doesn't have room for the 6 points Suppressor costs.

EDIT: I had Vector on it for the first game because it was 2 v. 2 and my partner wanted to try out his spiffy new Raider so we needed the points.

Ha! That's pretty funny.

I haven't used my Gozanti yet, which is unusual. I've been hampered from playing some Epic and I've been playing the Raider missions. Makes me want to get some games in, but people are getting antsy to play the "Heroes of Aturi Cluster" campaign.

I can just see how this would play on screen.

Ruthlessness. Imperial only.

:)

No, that's the fan made campaign that is all co-op. You fly one ship with other players vs. "A.I." Imperials. You improve your pilot and ship as you play along. I hear it's amazing. I've heard from some people that it's the most fun they have ever had playing X-wing.

That sounds a lot like the endurance levels from the Rogue Leader games.

There is a whole multi page thread about it. It's got all sorts of missions and various things for the campaign. Lots of special terrain to print and cut out. I'm hoping to try that or use my Gozanti this week.

So when playing my games on sunday, both myself and my friend pulled our target locks out.

GG and QQ each.

I may have to swear off that combination.

I made custom ones. I printed off a bunch of icons and pictures and use a glue stick to attach them. It kind of covers up the color, so I painted the edges of my TL to make it easier. Now, I pull out Rebel helmets, Imperial Icons, Vader, and other ones that no one else copies.

They should do them in Aurebesh.

They should do them in Arubesh.

Shut up and take my money.

wow this thing moves fast with this build. Good on energy? Set a 4fwd, do a 1str first before reveal. Thats 5. Action for 1 more. This thing just moved faster than **** near any ship can...even regular ships. Oh that is bound to catch things off guard :D

I have fond memories of 2-turning a Ghost and an X-Wing with 4 Bombers pulled from my Vector (thats the one who makes them PS8, right). Pretty devastating.

The Gozanti looks so angry

Is there any viable builds with the Gozanti that doesnt use the docking clamps? i often feel when i dont build it as a strict support vessel i feel like i am wasting a cargo slot.

Throwing out the docked ships at PS13 is just so strong that you'd need a really good reason not to run Clamps. Its actually lovely how well the gimmick works!
