Is it just me, or does the Millenium Falcon actually not have a turret?

By ParaGoomba Slayer, in X-Wing

According to the movies, the two quad gun positions it has seem to only have a ~90 degree traverse.

Lazy game design? Lazy game design. IMO the Falcon should have an aux arc like the Firespray does and should have costed less.

It's just you.

In the Force Awakens, there is a very distinct clanking sound as the bottom, rear facing one hits the end of its field of traverse. The guns can't rotate fully.

Guess you bumper bowling no skillers can't face the truth.

Do we need to bring out the doll for you to show us where the evil Han player touched you?

edit: If it wasn't obvious, the whole upper disc traverses with the pintle mount allowing for some traverse without rotating the whole disc just like how the up-armored turrets of Humvees work. You wouldn't be able to tell if the disc is rotating based on the Episode IV footage.

wait you are worried that it should have a aux arc but NOT worried that an OLD freighter is more maneuverable then some dedicated FIGHTERS??

Your right of course. It doesn't have a turret it has 2 turrets.

One gun rotates to shoot the front 180. One gun rotates to shoot the back 180. 180 + 180 = 360.

They can't rotate that far though. It looks like they have ~90 degree fields of fire instead of 180 degree ones.

Okay then, I was wrong.

Do I have to go Grab my Dad's 1977 Millenium Falcon and show you!

Just looking at that still frame up above, with Han in the seat... it illustrates what the movie failed to portray.

Remember how they got in those seats. Han climbed up the ladder, and Luke climbed down. And remember that Han looked straight over his shoulder to see Luke in the lower gun. In that photo, Han is staring "straight up" relative to the horizontal plane of the Falcon. His gun can traverse 360 degrees around, and 180 degrees above the Falcon. Luke's gun does the same beneath. Together, they are covering all the way around in every direction.

They just neglected to film the actors hanging in such an orientation, nor showing them rotating around to quite that degree. But basically, watching Han and Luke shoot at targets would look more akin to The Last Starfighter's Death Blossom.

It's always seemed to be that they can't rotate all the way down to the same plane as the falcon's hull and rather have a wide cone of sight on either side.

That's incredibly hard to approximate in a 2D game and a turret simulates it best. It's easy to image as the Falcon jukes and jives and waggles its prodigious booty, enemies are shifted into those cones of fire on the relative plane.

I'm confused at what you're trying to say.

The turrets clearly fire both backwards and forwards in the movies.

They are rotary turrets. We see Luke and Han rotate them when firing.

Why would it only have an aux arc anyway? If you didn't think the turrets could fire a full 180 from their placements, then they would only be able to shoot above and below the ship, therefore in the 2D game that is X-wing the falcon wouldn't be able to shoot in any direction. So if you think an aux arc fixes your problem, it doesn't actually affect it at all.

I'll just change the position my Falcon sits on its base to fix the problem

I am more concerned that retrofitted freighters (the equivalent to the space 18-wheeler) are better gun platforms than the Defender, which is supposed to be the best starfighter in the galaxy.

Maybe when Veterans hits that will change.

She ship can also just spin you dunce

That might be because it really is a better gun platform than a Defender. The Falcon carries as much firepower as an X-wing in each of its two turrets. It's got more in common with a light gunship than it does any civilian freighter.

At least I could understand the falcon shooting in all directions as it has separate pilot/gunners. Really seems out of place for a Y wing to have a turret and fire it while still piloting. In the movies they are locked in that forward position.

There's a gunner behind the pilot.

same as with airspeeders.

locked version without the gunner is represented by Title Y-wing

That's because in the movies they're using the BTL-A4 Y-wing, which doesn't have a gunner and does lock the guns forwards. The original model was the BTL-S3 , which is what the "base" Y-wing represents in this game. That model does have space for a co-pilot who operates the turret.

Think it should get a crew slot then?

I think it is time for someone to get an icecream bar shoved in their face (it would be well deserved), and I am not talking about fans of the Millennium Falcon.

Think it should get a crew slot then?

Hells to the no.

For one, the guy in the back is too busy manning the gun to do anything else.

For another, we are absolutely not ever giving the stresshog access to Tactician.

Wooooww....i love the smell of BS in the morning:D

Ok so as a guy that will have 20 anniversary of first watching falcon on screen i feel entitled to some opinion here:

I know its pro drawing :D But here we go: as you can see green seats in gunner turrets were 90 deegres rotated. Gravity fields were also rotated in falcon as desribed in one of the books. That may create the illusion of limiting fire arc.

I'd be more okay with a range 1 bubble to comply with the books where the turrets had a gap where they both couldn't shoot if an enemy was too close to the ship.
