Defending the border

By MichalKP, in Warhammer Invasion Rules Questions

Hey,

i am used to dealing with lots of question regarding this game in my community and so far I have come just across a few situations that i, as a veteran gamer, couldnt solve.

Anyway just today i was puzzled by this scenario offered by one of my friends:

What happens when i have two Defending the Border quest cards in play and both active?

The text says: ... redirect the first point of damage done to your capital each turn to ...

No what? If the first one gets redirected is the second one a new first one and thus gets redirected too by the second copy of DtB? My ruling is that no, it doesnt combine and the effects of DtB do not stack, but i am not sure. Almost everything else stacks (contested fortress for example)...

Thanks for your help

The can only ever be one first. Even if the first was canceled, redirected, or otherwise affected, it had to be the first in order for it to be a valid trigger. Once one Defend the Border has found a valid trigger and resolves it immediately invalidates all other DtB's since the next point of damage can't be the first point otherwise the original DtB had an invalid trigger.

Make sense?

The key is to compare the language on this card to cards whose effects do stack. The card was written this way on purpose so its effect would not stack, other wise it would read, "redirect one damage this turn" which would allow them to stack, but each quest could only trigger once.

Thanks for your help. I am glad i ruled it correctly.

It should be noted, that while there is no ability yet to cancel a quest ability, there may be in a future release. If that is the case having two DtB would allow for one to be canceled and the other to still be able to trigger, since the first damage was still headed your way.
