The Great DJ06 Mystery

By any2cards, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Over the past few days, I have finally taken the time to update all of my document aids that allow me to track my enormous investment in FFG games. This included updating all of my Descent 2nd Edition documents.

Links to these documents can be found in the Index of Useful Links thread that is stickied at the top of this forum. Specifically, look within the section titled "Community Tools & Game Aids".

Anyway, part of my effort was matching up all of the proof of purchase tokens with all of the expansions they came with. Since I have everything for D2e, I wanted to make sure that I had not lost any of my proof of purchase tokens. While FFG's support is amazing, and while I have never been asked for one of these for any game for which I have submitted an issue, I am a bit OCD when it comes to making sure I have what I am suppose to have.

Much to my surprise, when I generated the document titled "Descent 2nd Edition Proof of Purchase", I found that I did not have a proof of purchase token for DJ06 (the current values range from DJ01 to DJ43).

After scrambling around, looking high and low, I went through all of my stuff and realized that there wasn't an expansion of any kind with a proof of purchase whose value was DJ06 (you can look at my document to verify this).

This got me to thinking. What was DJ06 suppose to be? Was it a planned product that never made the light of day?

FFG's X-Wing game had something like this. FFG officially announced a tile set for X-Wing, assigned it a proof of purchase product code, officially announced the product on this web site, and then canceled it and never produced it. There was a very compelling reason for this which is not important for this discussion.

Unlike the product for X-Wing, FFG has never announced anything that has the code of DJ06 (to the best of my knowledge). Even in their own product pages it does not exist.

Care to guess what this was? Anyone have any insider insight?

I have submitted a question to FFG about this, as I am a curious sort, and really want to know :P

Due to suffering from OCD that bothers me as well. Started a thread on BGG a while ago on it and no one knows anything.

If you find anything out do let us know. We await any discovery you make.

Looking at your excel, some choices look sort of weird. They left room for all the H&M packs to follow up on eachother, so one would assume they had that amount planned and shards of everdark is going to be the last? While there are still heroes to release.. Maybe we're not going to see those then? Anyway, some other stuff is weird too.

Wouldn't it be a lot more logical if it had been that:

Nerekhall was DJ06

Manor of Ravens was DJ07

The nerekhall lieutenants moved up 1 to DJ21, DJ22, DJ23, DJ24

Skarn was DJ25

That would make sense, but that's not how it is- I'm staring right at my Nerekhall proof of purchase, says "DJ07".

The missing reference could be a filler, or a reserved slot? Or maybe that's what the Shadow Rune hardcover campaign book is going to get? :)

Yeah, I wasn't implying the info was wrong, I'm just saying it would have made more sense in the way i mentioned, since they seem to have reserved numbers for stuff like the H&M packs but then suddenly mix that up with nerekhall and manor or ravens

This is what is so fascinating about this list ... and the empty spot ...

For some of it, there indeed seems to be long term planning done ... leaving "reserved" slots for certain expansions.

Then, some of it seems to be completely unplanned, and occurs willy-nilly.

Since DJ06 would have occurred very early in the cycle, I spent some time trying to come up with something that would have been planned to be released early on, and yet never happened. Some accessory like the Dice Pack.

Perhaps a second Dice Pack that only had extra Green Dice? And they chose to go in another direction by including green dice in multiple expansions?

Maybe the game night kit that came with some of the co-ops, with the plastic wound and fatigue tokens, dice, bags and player mats?

DJ06 was a cellphone, that connected directly with whoever is tasked to answer questions about the game...

but then they realized the phone lines would get too busy, so they cancelled it...

True story! :P

I was more thinking of the Star Wars conversion kit :)

I would like that be a miniature pack for replace all Familiar tokens of the game.

Funny how this thread is still going on.

Even funnier is how people think this is a Mulder case where something supersecret has been kept in the dark by an allmighty corporation that is FFG. :)

Sequence numbering is used in many businesses, and sometimes you just happen to create a new reference by using an application (I doubt FFG's way of keeping track of these numbers are stored in a parchment scroll), but screwed up somehow or clicked twice on the thing. It might sound trivial to say that it's just a matter of removing the wrong/duplicate reference, but in some systems it's not that easy (or qualified as being important). So yeah my webshop creates order #1000 for you, and the next customer would get #1002 because I screwed up.

So yeah, I guess the person who made that mistake is most likely laughing at us when we try to make connections to unreleased products :)

Someone please, clarify this, send the question to FFG, for God's sake. I can barely breath, I need, I have to know!!! Countless nights without sleep, countless anti depressives...please someone help!

I actually did ask FFG about this the day I originally posted this thread. They chose not to reply.

We may know about it once the V3 will be released, in some years, maybe.

And whatever the answer, I'm still going to live on !

I heard from an FFG twitter account that DJ06 is the long last Errata. It is even on the boat but has still not arrived...

I had a really bad last few days due to my medical conditions. This made me laugh long and hard ... thank you for that !!! :) ;) :P :D

This post is DJ06x.

DJ06 is the top secret document detailing in extensive specifics what the unreleased DJ06 is.

Joking aside I'm still thinking ' The Sea of Blood ' v2, or at least something linked in to that and its lieutenants because of some strong logical reasons

- there have been other D1e lieutenants appear in D2e - but none at all from that game expansion yet. I think it had six?

- we have had some other content (including all the Sea of Blood monsters?) that might fit in (Merriods look rather sea-worthy too even if that's unintentional, blood apes would fit any island setting.....)

- mostly because I really want some Sea of Blood inspired content for D2e alongside some island/ sand-desert/ snow-ice and other environmental tiles. Sea of Blood divided opinion a bit but I was on the fan side of the fence. If they could improve it as a D2e big box expansion it would be awesome as seas and sandy beaches/ coastal caves/ shore hideaways or lairs or different islands and environments has so much potential and there were some great ideas in the original although it has its flaws (I loved some of the concepts such as sharks to torment the heroes, kraken, ghost ship and Sweetheart among others, having a terrain map to put under tiles is quite a neat idea too, you can 'build' the tiles on the terrain, although maybe some variety of other options, such as a mostly-island under-map, would be good for the under-terrain- they could think up other innovations for mapbuilding too maybe).

This video is quite good for an overview of the game expansion for D1e (The 'icy boat' is the ghost ship although his calling it that is another option for it. You had the option to replace the Kraken and other lieutenants with lieutenant packs just like in D2e, really hoping they remake these and at the very least do a way to properly port over the D1e expansion even if there's not a full D2e remake.) : Descent First Edition The Sea Of Blood Expansion Unboxing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2tiHxwP0VY Watching this makes me think a remake would need some figures and maybe more map tiles / other content range improvements versus the original, this highlights it seeming lacking a bit in that respect even though it has a lot of good components. Maybe split over two box sets? If they got it right this time it could have its own expansion path as it opens up options for locations/environments and travel between encounters.

I missed out on Road To Legend (the D1e expansion not the app) and Altar of Despair so porting over any of that that's worth porting over would also be a hope for future releases and could instead be linked to the DJ06 enigma.

On this 'what might come next' thought process it's fun looking at D2e things and thinking 'Hmmm, wonder why that's there!' - as an example there's a tile with venus fly trap like plants and people eating/ prey eating (appearance-wise) plants, fun finding things like that that make you think it would be interesting if they used that in an expansion or linked in to it, or they can give you ideas for your own scenarios and quests.

If you've found any other fun subtleties share them here- they could be a clue to the eternal mystery of DJ06 or give people ideas for their games.
