Armada Team Tournament - Vassal

By BiggsIRL, in Star Wars: Armada

Miedomeda vs Moodswing is over: result is a 5-5 with a mease 8 points MOV in my favour.

I was first player and we played minefields. Going in my plan was to roadblock both his MC 80 and start a bumpfest, but plans are know to shatter on first contact with the enemy, so... Anyway, he didn't deploy as a typical conga line as I expected, instead opting for a "fork" formation with his raymus tantive in the middle and MC 80s covering both flanks. On my part, my deployment was really poor, as I ended up with my AF and squadrons on the far right side, unable to get a shot in the whole game, and my mc 30 rushing on mines. After some Dodonna shaenigans I still managed to cripple his flagship repair capability and ended blowing it up with Dodonna's pride while it was trying to escape after hitting a mine. In return Moodswing killed both my mc 30, Foresight with a lucky volley for 7 dmg and 2 accuracies, and Admonition - who had survived with some very welcome luck to her almost certain destruction - because of a postioning error on my side. Some more shots were exchanged, but the whole game was really decided with that big brawl in the middle of the "table" that ended with the loss of my 2 mc 30 and his pricey flagship.

Great game overall, tense until the very last shot.

This was a really great game, and my hats off to miedomeda. I had to go lie down afterwords though. I need a drink....

CaribbeanNinja (2nd) Vs Doobleg (1st)

Objective: Precision Strike.

(465-322) 143 MOV (8-2)

This was a really fantastic and fun match up. Doobleg is an amazing opponent and we were having a fun the entire time (almost as if this were a game.:) )

Doobleg really concentrated on my right VSD. So much so that Matt has placed the most amazing screenshot (In the Replay thread) of all of Doobleg's fleet parked RIGHT NEXT TO IT! That VSD didn't last long.

Luckily for me my goofy bombers did a little damage to Demolisher (after rolling three blanks on their first run) as it zoomed in and then tried to escape the battle. I got some precision Strike tokens while flipping cards on Demo. Right before Demo was activated and sure to escape (with 4 hull damage), a hail Mary shot from the side on my second VSD - I flipped a card. Structural Damage. Demo was dead.

Doobleg's Relentless and Insidious turned right hard near the end of the game and finished of a second VSD leaving only Tarkin. Tarkin Actvated at the end of round 6 and sent in the final bombing run. They finally did their job and finished off Relentless.

In the end I only had Tarkin and my squads. Doobleg was left with Insidious. We were even on Precision Strike Tokens. (10-10)

A fantastic game. I'm so glad to have played such a great opponent! I can't wait for another game!

Edited my post to reflect score after checking with Doobleg. (465-322) 143 MOV (8-2)

Here you go:

Doobleg sent three ships screaming down from different angles on one enemy Vic-1, and somehow managed to avoid the multiple collisions the crowd expected by fitting them all together like a jigsaw puzzle :D

Neat.

Hey Biggs, how come I get no credit for that Rieekan Defiance, corvettes list you blogged about!?

MattShadowlord vs. miferr scheduled for 8pm CDT Monday night, 9am AWST Tuesday morning. I think that means 0100 UTC Tuesday morning???? My brain hurts!

ianediger of First Time Vassalers vs. aternate rowansl is starting now!

Ginkapo vs SwagRendar 5-5 23 MOV

Should do write up tomorrow.

Hey Biggs, how come I get no credit for that Rieekan Defiance, corvettes list you blogged about!?

A couple of reasons:

1) You have 4 corvettes, and I only brought 3. And your Jaina's Light was your flagship, and didn't have TRCs.

2) Your MC80 isn't an Assault variant, and spec'd out differently.

3) I have no idea what objectives you took.

and most importantly...

4) I didn't actually have your list in mind at all when coming up with mine. Honestly I think the 6 CR90 Rieekan from the first Matchup-of-the-Week list had more to do with the creation of my list. :P

The game between ianediger and myself ended up as a victory for me. 9-1 win with a 299 mov. (was a heck of a lot closer than the score indicates). Was a lot of fun and hope to play him again.

(stuff about the game itself)

A fantastic game. I'm so glad to have played such a great opponent! I can't wait for another game!

Perhaps the best compliment I can get as a player is when my opponent says he enjoyed our game. I'd like to pay CN the same compliment. :D

For some reason, I take Armada more seriously than any other game I play. My mistakes haunt me for days, and I curse myself for a fool long after the game is lost. Not so playing against CaribbeanNinja, a man of infinite jest and patience. The whole game was a relaxed affair, played with a spirit of fun competition that I've often missed in Armada. Kudos to CN for making that possible. :)

(props to the watching crowd, too - such a fun room all round) :D

As for the game itself, CN summed it up pretty well, but I'll happily add this: what Clontroper5 has done for the "useless" Raider, CaribbeanNinja has done for the "down and out" Victory Star Destroyer. With a list built with precision and played to its strengths, CN has brought these bad boys back into relevancy. I'll post the replay later tonight - if you check it out, you'll see what I mean. ;)

Thanks again for the game, dude, and thanks again again to Biggs for allowing me to play with such awesome people. :D :D :D

Zanos vs Thanosazlin

Zanos was first player, the objective was advanced gunnery.

237 - 51, 186 MOV in favor of Zanos. It was interesting how little it felt we actually did, but first player and an early squadron command snowballed the squadron fight into a flawless win for my squadrons, and possibly the worst early crit to draw came in the form of faulty countermeasures for his objective assault frigate landing on an asteroid. I lost a corvette early but that critical let me take his objective frigate out and I was able to weasel my objective (Jaina's Light) across the board and out of range. Very well played considering the unfortunate early crit however, and a fun game!

End result, 8-2 win for Zanos and Bacta the Future!

Jarenis vs Quadro

Quadro won the roll for first player, Objective picked was most wanted

473 to 148. 9-1 win to Jarenis. Some exceptionally poor rolls early on compounded with Mon Mothma meant that I snow balled early to take out Reiken on the 3rd turn and then win on the 4th by destroying his other Whale and Yavaris. All round great game! Good luck Quad on the rest of the tourny.

End result is a 9-1 to Jarenis and the Church of Rocco

Ginkapo vs SwagRendar 5-5 23 MOV

Should do write up tomorrow.

As promised.

To set the scene Swag brought a 386pt pimped out Vader Demolisher supported by two Gunnery team ISD I's. Whildt I brought a extremelly disimilar to Biggs list, with Defiance and four Rieekan corvettes.

Swag took first place and the least worst intel sweep objective.

Deployed with the two ISD's bearing down on defiance, Alan and Raymus. Defiance proceeded to act as a blocker to give Jaina a clear run of the tokens.

Through some wonderful rolling, (I never actually used leading shots....), the first ISD was taken down fast, but by this point defiance was sitting in two ISD front arcs.

Demo came in and took out Steve who was defending the last token, and Raymus who was running away from the ISD's. Demo then made his escape away rrom the fight.

Unfortunately, raymus took CF on his last turn rather than nav to give defiance the token she needed to escape the wrath of the final ISD. Lando forced the reroll of a single accuracy one turn to enable the brace, but it wasnt enough the following turn.

However, Alan, Han, Tycho and Jaina finished the job and took out the ISD.

On turn six, Jaina activated to claim her third objective anc tipped the game in my favour.

Only Demo, Jaina, Han and Tycho survived the bloodfest.

Lessons:

Han and Tycho are great anti ship when free to move unimpeded.

Its very difficult to use corvettes when every enemy shop can one shot them.

Swag was a great opponent.

Oh and Swag now owns up to beinb a previous world top 8 in XWing.

So if anyone else wants to admit to being a world beater after they play me that would be appreciated.....

Mostly because I am entirely unable to do any of the other ones due to time constraints...

**Ardaedhel vs Onca - Wednesday 23rd @ 1900 CDT / Thursday 24th @ 0000 GMT** - Match-up of the Week!

Ah biggs didnt learn a lesson about covering a 7 cr90 fleet the first time...

I hate myself and deserve to suffer.

Ah biggs didnt learn a lesson about covering a 7 cr90 fleet the first time...

I'd do Maturin vs Madagmire if I knew when you guys would actually be playing.

We've suffered some setbacks. We're gonna try and get it started tonight, although due to the time differential we will likely have to space it out over 2 nights anyway.

They're trying for 9pm Pacific tonight. Maturin's work schedule has been a problem.

Lando forced the reroll of a single accuracy one turn to enable the brace...

Um, I don't think Lando works like that, He's used in the "spend defense tokens" step, which is after the opponent has targeted tokens with the accuracies. He's basically a super-evade, meaning dice rerolled to accuracies by him are effectively misses, which really helps him when it comes to rerolling blues and reds.

Yeah found that one out in the "rerolling accuracies" thread. Wouldnt have made too much difference in this case as Swag would have rolled blanks/accs on all the blue and red hits given his dice luck.

Look at this glutton for punishment over here, everybody...

Clontroper5 vs Dourprize (1st)

we played my Firelanes

I set up all three tokens in a close line infront of my side of the board, he shifted them in his direction. I was able to gain the last deplyment which was nice and we ended up deploying directly across from each other with his ships angled towrd the middle and mine setuup slightly on either side of him with Claymore (my flagship) directly infront of the firelanes tokens. we closed the gap and then turn 2 his fighters pounced killing 2 of my ties and damaging a 3rd but my fought back damaging several of his escorts. I was able to use my superior activations to force his mc80 to close range of demolisher and I unloaded with fantastic rolls resulting in 7 damage and 5 plus 2 apts which inflicted projector misaligned and compartment fire followed up with a ram the mc80 was left limping on its last legs. turn 3 the mc80 attempted to flee blasting Demolisher to dust with a 6 damage broadside and some b-wings but without any defenses fell to long range fire from Claymore. On the other side of the battle Avenegr and Gallant haven Squared off ending up nose to nose with the ISD in a double arc bothe exchanged heavy fire and rammed eachother, at the end of the turn he cleans up my fighters. start of turn 4 Haven and any squads that can get close enough unload into Avenger in a desperate attempt to finish it, but it is not enough. and soon Haven falls to the combined the firepower of 2 ISDs. I ended up with 11 tokens to 1 giving a final mov of 550 to 146 in my favor

10-0 to Hammers of Kuat

here's the replay, Sorry i started it late
