I should be able to fill in as long as we can do the game on the weekend. My work schedule's a little too hectic to do it during the week.
Armada Team Tournament - Vassal
With regards to Chaos Shanghaied vs First Time Vassalers
Green Knight (GMT +1 I think) vs ianediger
Captain ICT (GMT - 6) vs SkyCake
Chilligan (GMT +2) vs Dorrin314
People should be PMing about the times shortly. I'll note when there's an updated schedule.
We may have a scheduling conflict between GK and ianediger (which week is a problem), if so I'm fine with swapping them as is ianediger, just wanted to mention it publicly, as we'd announced, so Biggs knows and can object or give it his blessing as is appropriate.
Well him, all our loyal viewers sick of the reality TV, and the US political circus. They all emulated us, and sat on their butts last round. That's scary devotion guys, but anyway: Stay tuned in to this crazy channel as merely small global scheduling conflicts play out in our interstellar conflict.
Or we could go with substitution. Either for me or ianediger.
Substitution of an Alternate is what you should do at this stage.
Rowansl has been sitting at the top of the substitution list. There may be more that posted in the thread that I didn't catch.
So far, the substitutes are proving unreliable (from a message I got, rowansl is the only one that might work out or bothered to respond, and it appears he may not be able to do it until it's too late to play GK). I'm rather annoyed with this decision, as rather than swap matchups, something acceptable to both teams (Well, OK, I haven't heard anything about Skycake's opinion on it, as it hasn't come up in messages), who had things announced first and while the change would take place within the scheduling period, so we can have team members play, one of us is likely to have to get a substitute. So far the sub hasn't been happening, likely leaving the guy who has been working hard on the Vassal module that everyone plays with (Green Knight) unable to play someone in two rounds, because of bye, bad luck in matchups, a choice to not allow a simple fix, and lack of timely substitutes. Even a sub for GK means that ianediger doesn't get to play with his fleet.
I'll abide by it, but I'm not very happy with it at all.
Yes, I do realize Biggs does this in his free time, I really do appreciate that, but I'm still a bit steamed about it.
DoobeeLeg and CarryBehindNinjaman are fightings Saturday 12.30pm GMT. Wahoo!

I'm really sorry I can't do it until the weekend, otherwise I'd do it.
Between work and chauffeuring my kid around to band, soccer, robotics and rocketry team practice/meetings in the evenings, I can't really commit to anything other than weekends.
Since you haven't had the fun of playing yet, I'll find a substitute.
Looks like the listed sub and I do not mesh well in terms of scheduling, so we won't be able to play after all.
You know what, I'm just going to bow out of the whole thing - I'm not going to get to play anyway, so there is no point in continued participation.
Anyway, good luck with the rest of the tourney.
Ultimately, it's up to you folks to get the game scheduled once matchups have been formed one way or another. The rules allow for alternates as needed to accomplish this.
You've got until the 26th though, don't forget.

Biggs, please let us go on with the only solution that everybody was happy with - switching matchups. It shouldn't come to GK leaving.
Edited by chilliganIt's OK.
Hopefully you can locate a sub, and then at least ianediger will get to play his game.
I don't mind playing ianediger again!
Is there anything in the rules that says against a player from a different team being an alternate?

Yes. They must come from the list of substitutes. Plus we could not substitute internally, so it would be very odd if you could sub from another team!

I am all for this one, let them play.
I'm trying to go with rules as established before the tournament began, and even increased the amount of time to schedule and play a game.
I knew going into this that we would be having difficulties in scheduling for this tournament, and drops / no-shows would be an issue.
That being said, this is supposed to be a casual tournament environment for fun (and internet glory), and I can understand the frustration on things like byes / scheduling conflicts / no-shows. To that effect, if Team Captains and players involved agree, I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to substitute players on your team - but not lists.
To slightly clarify, substitution of players should be a swap of who plays what list - and not one player playing 2 lists or lists swapping that have already been offered. I'll leave it up to Team Captains / Players involved to determine who (if anyone) requires swapping.

I imagine most teams have been making their matches against lists, rather than against players (at least I know our team has). Therefore, once match-ups have been set, then the lists must be set in stone - that's the whole point of the bidding/matching system.
I'm all for allowing players on the same team to "tag in" when their teammates are unable to schedule their game, and I have no problem with a player taking on two games in a round (their own, and that of their teammate) if it means getting the matches played, especially as this would ensure the best outcome for the team.
Biggs' suggestion of teammates swapping matches (I say matches rather than opponents, as the lists for the matches are already set) is a good one, and would be preferable, and this means everyone's getting a game each round.

I understand that. One he was aware of a problem, It was the Team B captain who suggested changing the person to face the one Team A had set out, with the Team A captain able to adjust after wards, which is something we both thought seems fair. (It just so happens to have been the swap that Team A's captain suggested.) Basically letting them change the team that replied to the offer.
If we'd not announced publicly so quickly, and instead done it by PM, we'd have just changed it, something we almost did, as we really didn't see any issue. I basically posted simply because I'd already posted things publicly, expecting a rubber stamp OK, as it was basically following the procedure, only going back a little bit in the process when there was a problem and a fix that seemed completely harmless and really simple without needing to PM many people to try to coordinate.
If you do something like this in the future, I'd highly suggest you change the rules to allow changes as if they follow the format for choosing teams. Ie, they can be changed (lists and players, or just players), If both captains agree, while within the scheduling period (only for both players/lists) when no games have been played, player swapping should be available at any time:
If it's a problem with the 1st match, Team B's captain gets to pick the replacement matchup, and Team A gets to adjust the other two matches.
Any other matchups can be swapped if needed and agreed upon.
If either captain doesn't agree on a list or player swap, it is not permitted and alternate is required.
The fun of long games and global scheduling, and hair pulling. ... for fun.
As it is, I'm somewhat in a pickle and looking into an alternate for Green Knight now. If the change to allow teammates to swap doesn't allow him to play (with a list that's not his).
Additionally, Tentatively, I'm setup to play Skycake Wednesday (tomorrow) at 2030 my or his time. (US central vs mountain) I'll double check the PMs. If GK chooses to play with this revision, there's a chance it might be GK playing that one (likely at a different time) or chilligan's opponent, and us trying to adjust schedules.
Bring 'em on!
I'd prefer a straight fight to all this scheduling around.
My mind suggested this and I have to just laugh at it.
Once again, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Biggs for all his hard work in organising this awesome tournament.

Wow, that'd be a game to watch! Could you please save the log and post it in the appropriate thread?

Word. Will be watching this one.
Yeah, hope I'll be able to make this one...
I haven't gotten 100% confirmation from JJ, so we might start a little late. He offered tonight, but I haven't gotten a reply since.

JJ got me 184-69 for a 7-3. I mucked up Yavaris, but I also confirmed my belief that H-6s and Yavaris do not get along.

Truthiness was first player and chose my hyperspace assault. I didn't want Demo to get ambushed after coming in, so I chose Instigator and Bossk, hoping to tie down some squads as I hypered in. The rest of my fleet setup to skirt the obstacles, since I knew I'd lose in a brawl with Yavaris and the AFs. My hyperspace plan worked, as Instigator came in and tied down Jan. I made one slight mistake however, and deployed to close to the assault frigate's rear, which with a squadron activation of h-6s and a TRC rear shot took out Instigator. I was really worried at this point, but the next round I was able to hose the fighter ball with my Glad 2, And with mauler's previous damage I was able to take out the the majority of Truthiness's squadrons. Like he said, he should have activated Yavaris earlier, which would have turned the fight a little more in his favor. He was worried about moving too close the my Vic, but as it turned out, Yavaris had to move towards Demolisher, who killed it anyway. After I mopped up the remaining squads with Mauler on the next turn, I continued to disengage, and we called the game mid-turn 4 as it was clear nothing else would be getting any shots the rest of the game.
