Armada Team Tournament - Vassal

By BiggsIRL, in Star Wars: Armada

Looks from the picture and my own measuring from the save file like the LOS from the AFII side arc overlaps the front arc to get to the side. No shot.

ok i wasn't able to zoom in that far, vassal doesn't do well and can crash on me if i do, here it what i was looking at, see link below.. OK i can't argue to a TO ruling :), i never really have had vassal come down to zoomed in pixels to this degree before with LOS, I have with range though, LOL.

here was my screenshot, not that it matters but just showing you what i could only produce based on my crappy computer :)

On a side note , other issue, as a TO what is your "opinion" on pre-measuring maneuver tool as i place a ship during setup. Example, i place shipA in my setup area and i measure distance to help determine where i want to place the ship not locking in of course. Then i place shipB next. I understand the rules speak to only using maneuver tool during the "determine course step" but that is part of a ship's activation, not during setup. there doesn't seem to be a rule, one way or the other, during "setup" that would prevent you from figuring out how you want place your ship. i think maybe FFG needs to FAQ setup in a little more detail in that regard, if their intent is for you NOT to use a maneuver tool when placing your ships.

This was actually answered in... I think an email? I don't honestly remember, but they did say you can use the maneuver tool during setup to pre-measure.

Its in the Tournament Rules:

Page 7, Legal Products, Second Paragraph (Bold/Italic Emphasis Mine)

Custom setup templates designed to aid players in ship and squadron deployment are not allowed. However, players may use their range rulers and maneuver tools to help them set up formations during deployment.

With a caution against slow play since vassal is already slower than real life as it is...

Man, that Ard v Ninja marathon sure resonates with you huh biggs?

Man, that Ard v Ninja marathon sure resonates with you huh biggs?

I watched this 5 hour extravaganza by fast forwarding through it and it was hilarious. (To me. I don't know how you guys did it.)

I was actually very impressed by the commentary but it was funny how it totally degenerated into "JUST DO IT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!"

Me, JJs, and Truthiness went to a dark place Friday night.

I don't know why I do this to myself...

Bacta the Future vs Church of Rocco
**JJs Juggernaut vs Jarenis - Thursday 10th @ 1900 CST / Wednesday 9th @ 0100 GMT / 1200 Australian East Coast** - Matchup of the Week
Madagmire vs Swagrendar - Tuesday 8th @ 2000 EST / Wednesday 9th @ 0100 GMT / 1200 Australian East Coast
Zanos vs Reath28 - Friday 11th @ 2300 EST / Saturday 12th @ 0400 GMT / 1500 Australian East Coast

Heads up:

216 beta 6 will soon be turned into the official version 217.

Last chance to report any bugs I might not be aware of!

We were good through turn three. We got a little punchy after that. Sorry...

So it only took you like 3 hours to get punchy. You're a steely-eyed missile man.

Heh! :D

They're going to do well, and they've got a decent odds to win it all. But you want them to fail, because they're the Jar Jars and you're a original trilogy fan **** it.

Great write-up, man. :)

[snipped. Look at the post! It's an excellent write-up.]

I made some very critical mistakes in this game, but learned some still-more critical lessons.

  1. Unfortunately, barring some impressive list which demonstrates otherwise, I think that Tractors aren't quite good enough to play competitively. They're only "truly" effective if your opponent is going second and doesn't have an activation advantage, as I discovered when chasing the Jania's light. Maturin was able to activate twice and effectively move 5, despite being at speed 1 when I first tagged him. From past experience, though less so in this game, They're very good at inhibiting stern chases, but I would otherwise recommend against them. They'd also be quite good at closing out a game, but when you've spent 12 points on fairly minimal board control, that'll be very tricky.
  2. I really need to focus when trying to kill something with an ISD. If I can't pin it at speed 1 or sandwich, even CR90s are fairly survivable. 5 dice does not kill things dead enough. Bad red rolls make that worse, but that's the risk I take by not playing Vader.
  3. Last/first is really annoying to play against. Boo hoo.

I made several critical mistakes and offered Mautrin a couple of crucial charities which took the game from a 5-5 in my favor to the 8-2 that you see there. But, hey, if I don't make these mistakes, I won't learn.

Unfortunately, I also don't have a vlog file.

I'll likely be there to keep you company. I still have no opponent for the week =(

I sense an alternate will be heading your way!

Getting down to the wire. Only 4 playing days left. My schedule is pretty open, but that's still awfully tight.

And we are indeed looking for the alternate to replace MoffZen for this game (I didn't hear anything from him, so it's time for plan B).

Perhaps send an email out to the listed alternates, just in case they're not monitoring this thread. :)

I could play our upcoming game, pt106.

Though perhaps after my first, it'd be better not to. :P

I'm perfectly comfortable with either of you playing in place of your teammate. If you'd rather an alternate, that's fine too. I'd rather the game get played than just breeze through. TO, how say you?

My assumption was that the use of a team member as an alternate is not allowed, otherwise I'm more than happy to substitute Conscientious Objector or myself.

Great Game last night with Quadro into the wee morning hours... I was able to move my ISD with 2 hull just out of reach of two Rieekan Zombie AFs to steel the win...

8-2 and MOV of 198

Quadro was a real sport helping me through my inexperience with the game and my hat is off to him!

Cheers,

**Call for Reinforcements**

Must be able to play Truthiness in the next four days. Contact Conscientious Objector or PT106.
