Looking to get my own copy of the game and am curious on which campaign is include in the core edition now. My buddy's had the shadowrune storyline but I am hearing now it comes with the heirs of blood? We picked the lieutenant packs up for my buddy but I'd like to get my own as well. Anyone recently purchased a copy of the game a care to share?
Core campaign book?
Hi DemanKnght,
Someone over at the Geek recently bought a version that contained Heirs instead of the Shadow Rune, but no official details as far as i know.
I bought the game 2 week ago for my young one who is 8 month old haha well that's what I tell the wife. Anyway mine came with the Heirs if Blood campaign. It says on back off the box so if you buy from your LGS you'll know , although I bought mine from game seek.
The bonus is you can download the Shadow Rune quest book as a PDF.

Do you mean there is a download code for Shadow Rune included, as well as a print copy of Heirs of Blood?
Great for new players but i guess im feeling a little ripped off when they now offer Heirs of Blood with the game and Shadow Rune as a download for free - ive just spent $40 to buy Heirs of Blood after buying the game.

I remember seeing pictures somewhere, i'm pretty sure isn't a hardcover, it was just like the current quest book.
Edit: lol, its in the post by Doakes a few posts back.
Edited by Atom4geVampireIts not a hard cover just 2 soft covers but hey i ain't complaining saved myself £25
I wonder if the gamebox has a version number printed on it.
Anyway you could look over your box for some kind of notification about the campaign that came with it?
I am about to buy the core box and would love to get that campaign for free and then just download the old one. Pages on print or a soft cover has never bothered me, especially when I could buy 3 or 4 Lieutenants for the same price
Honestly, I'd rather have the old one. I find that "First Blood" is a simple and easy teaching tool. Heirs of Blood is great but I'd rather have it in the Campaign Book.

Actually I glanced over the game box yesterday. It plainly points out that it comes with the heirs of blood campaign. Sorry to get everyone wondering on that.
No I just found it online so I whacked it on my iPad and boom Shadow Rune campaign aswell as heirs of blood. I plan on playing the Shadow Rune quests first tho.Do you mean there is a download code for Shadow Rune included, as well as a print copy of Heirs of Blood?I bought the game 2 week ago for my young one who is 8 month old haha well that's what I tell the wife. I'd recommend playing HoB first. A few of the quests in Shadow Ruin will break your heart, especially if it's your first campaign.
My group were a little salty about the balance issues in Shadow Ruin and turned a few of them off the game.
HoB is much more fun and engaging and all my games so far have been very close. A much better first campaign experience I would say.
SERIOUSLY????
I JUST bought this stuff and got Heirs of Blood book in addition to the base game at the same time...
NONE of this information is availabe from FFG:
- At Amazon
- On the Descent support site
- In updated rulebooks posted on FFG's site
- In the Heirs of Blood support site
HOW are consumers supposed to know this other than throwing away $20 on a campaign book they don't need???
Not to mention:
- Mists of Bilehall doesn't have a downloadable PDF of the rulebook like the other expansions.
- Mists of Bilehall isn't in the quest builder either.
Has FFG decided they just want to take money and provide zero support on this line of titles?
I'm in nearly $300 buying the stuff for it which I'm totally excited about...but I am pissed that $20 went to a book I apparently don't need and FFG is not even keeping their product descriptions up to date for products they're actively selling!
Mists of Bilehall has been available since Feb 11. So far it's been 2 weeks since official release. I don't have exact times it took for the other expansion rulebooks to be posted or for the vault to be updated with tiles, but I'm pretty sure it was on a similar timescale.
I haven't seen any official announcements about HoB being included with the base game, but apparently it's clearly marked on the box (so buying from a brick-and-mortar store it's impossible to miss.)

That's a pretty big if
when you're selling that product side-by-side...unless it's on a sticker on the front or on the shrink somehow to draw people's attention to it!
Got it today ... There's a pretty large graphic about it on the back cover. It's not just some text thrown into the copy. Shouldn't be difficult for ANYONE to miss...
That said, I'm still a little sore the marketing copy on e-retailer sites and FFG's own product site haven't been updated to reflect these changes since I did throw away $20 on the darn book...
I'll see if Amazon will take it back...
Edited by GamesontablesHave Amazon taken the HoB book back.
It strikes me as the kind of situation they are good with. At least in the UK where they seem keen to have a good customer service reputation.
I had made my way around the local game shops by me. Most of the places that had decent the box did not have the note that the heirs of blood campaign was included. They just had the standard back. So no idea if it had heirs of blood or not. The one store had both copies clearly stating the heirs of blood was the campaign. so I am sure there will still be confusion for a while.
I get that Heirs of Blood may be a better all around campaign, but it kind of leaves new players hanging, as now they will no longer have access to "The Shadow Rune" Campaign as it's not available to buy separately from the base game. I appreciate what they're trying to do, but come on.
Someone mentioned that you can download the shadow rune campaign with a special code, inside the box if you buy the "new'' descent 2nd edition. Is that true or am I high?
I think he mentioned that he just downloaded a pirated copy of the shadow rune book. Which is of course illegal
Edit: it was in this same topic https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/203177-core-campaign-book/?p=2069792

I'm still wondering what this means. didn't sound piracy...

So to me that does sound like it isn't official at all
(and, unlike other campaign guides, a pdf for The Shadow Rune can be found online without much effort using google)
