Am I crazy, or is there not a standout choice for Dengar for EPT's?

By nikk whyte, in X-Wing

I've been trying to put a Dengar together for a few days and I just can't seem to lock down anything in that slot.

Is anyone else having this issue?

predator so you can take zuckuss crew and never take an action again

It's a good problem to have. I hate that some other pilots have auto-take EPTs.

Your EPT would depend on what you're running elsewhere.

In a 2-ship list, I could see lone wolf as being good.

Anything heavy stress (EI + GONK, etc.) would open itself up to wired.

Predator, especially given that he may use multiple attacks.

VI could be interesting giving him PS 11 if you also give him EU. So could Dare Devil.

Push the Limit, EU and unhinged astromech could be good, making him a super-dodgy PS 9 large ship. Add in navigator for yet more fun.

Marksmanship, again since 2 attacks per turn will be semi-regular.

Yeah, nothing stands out as great on its own, but depending on how you build him, there's likely going to be am ept that could support that build.

Love the idea of Push the Limit, Engine Upgrade and unhinged astromech on a large ship. Slightly balances that left side bias.

Don't forget your K4 Security Droid!

i forgot it existed lol.

Are you kidding me? PtL with Engine Upgrade and Unhinged Astromech.

Oh yeah, and K4. Good luck trying to enjoy playing against this.

I'm quite tempted to try Stay On Target and Outlaw Tech. I figure he can have a lot of potential speed 2 moves and wants to ensure he's facing the right way.

Pretty sure we'll see a majority of ptl + k4 or vi

Fat turret, 9 hp, no defensive cards.

Engine Upgrade is a defensive card, and BR is a defensive action.

If he is the core to the squad, I like Predator.

If I am on a budget I really like crack shot in him as it give your opponent lots of headaches on spending tokens or not as there is (not really but you get what I mean) twice as much potential for it to be used each turn.

PTL + K4 + Unhinged + Engine or Wired + Gonk + R5-P9 + EI

Those are the 2 standout ones.

Predator all day long.

I can see myself taking a liking to Lone Wolf too but I want to try it out first.

I don't think PTL will be how I want to run him but I suppose that could change after trying out some interactions.

This combo pretty much ensures you will be in arc to take full advantage of Dengar's ability. Plus PTL means if you dont have to barrel roll + boost you can still take a focus for that extra bit of ooomph.

Superdash lacks any defensive cards and he's PS7.

I think Dengar is at his best working in a triple-action mold. Otherwise, you're better off with a scout or Manaroo, using Dengar crew for action economy.

Time to put down the Stresshogs again - oh wait, we already had to do that. He is easier to kill than Dash when loaded up with stress and hasn't got as much of a punch - I honestly see the U-Boat being the stronger way to play this ship, especially three of them.

Expose + Zuckuss + EI

Expose + Zuckuss + EI

... 8 points for a truck you get to pull, what, once? Surely not.

In the end, he's PS9 large base turret. Expect the usual power cards - PTL, Predator, Lone Wolf, even Adaptability or VI - on him; hell be doing either superdash style arc dodging or enjoying double taps, but won't be too shocking beyond this.

Still awesome, of course...

Dash brings an HLC, which is a substantial offensive upgrade over a 3-dice primary. He can also bring R2 crew (as illustrated in the US Nationals winning list).

Use Expose on your own risk ... preferably in fun games ;P

Dengar for Fun (56)
JumpMaster 5000 (33), Expose (4), K4 Security Droid (3), Unhinged Astromech (1), Punishing One (12), Experimental Interface (3)

I think this one is interesting. Fly a green, get a TL, a Focus and use Expose.

He gives up his R1 firepower to do that, though- and R1 is the range where it's a lot easier to dodge someone's arc.

That being said, the tankier Dash build that won nationals is very valid and I could see tanky Dengar builds being valid as well.

Cough cough don't use push the limit cough

While I don't think PTL + unhinged + K4 is a bad way to go (3 actions/turn is never bad), but the green on the dial is a serious limiting factor. Anyone who glosses that over is going to run into trouble quick. Dengar will NOT be able to fly like super dash. It should be interesting though. Using PTL a lot gives arc-dodging potential at PS9, but you'll end up without enemies in arc more often than not, and so can't use his ability as much. Also, while stressed, you lose out on that stellar white s-loop option (if you still want actions next turn)

Running him as a 'brawler' with predator or lone wolf and trying to maximize his double tap potential will be interesting too (throw R5-P8). Offense is its own form of defense sometimes. Get enough high firepower support ships in there....perhaps Bossk or some HLC scyks....that would be amusing
