Out of interest, do people think Ryemer would be better if he was in a punisher instead of a standard bomber?
for the same price? yes
otherwise redline kicks his ass
Hmm, interesting question. No VI, but he'd be able to cluster missile out to range 3. With FCS he wouldn't be able to modify the first CM shot with TL like Redline can, but FCS Cluster Missiles at range 3 mane
Also, Bombers are not very durable. They're crit sponges, not sure on the Mathwing but they should be roughly equivalent to a non-IA T-65. Punishers have B-Wing health +1, so they can't be wiped as easily.
Yes, Rhymer would be better on a Punisher.
I want to talk about Rhymer, even though I think he's still not very good.
I love Major Rhymer. I think this thread is proof that other people do too, even if he's not very powerful, even if Tomax Bren does pretty much everything he does but better, it's fun to tinker with the ranges of your ordinance.
So as a gift to you all, I present a title card to use in your casual games:
• Major Rhymer's Bomber
Title. Tie Bomber only.
Equip only if you are Major Rhymer.
-4 points
(I wish my computer could run Strange Eons.)
Squeeze another Advanced Homing Missile into your list, on the house. And maybe treat yourself to some Veteran Instincts too.
Cheers!
new damage deck isn't really catered to anyone, it just doesn't have spikey BS in it that can either cripple a ship or do nothing more than a face-down card
of course, they kinda kept some spikiness with the bull major explosion and that insultingly weak "no straight maneuvers, then flip card facedown" card, so eh
anyway, AHM I don't really think is anti-anything apart from lucky shots on corran; maybe with Boba crew? Crits are a whole lot of added RNG on top of the normal red/green crap you have to deal with.
The change from Minor to Major Explosion was a good one IMO. Minor Explosion was just a poor man's Direct Hit.
The one that gives you a stress for doing a white manuever is a dead draw on a TIE Interceptor. OH NO SOONTIR HAS TO DO A GREEN HARD 2!
The 'all of the damage cards from now on are face up' seems to always be dealt on a ship that ends up with 1 health left, and when it gets dealt on something like a Decimator it immediately gets flipped down. IMO it should be forced to last for a turn or two.
The damage deck was never an issue, just whiny babies butt mad that they aren't autowinning hard enough with HLC Outrider Dash.
Major Hull Breach. Actually got huge results out of it a couple weeks back. Landed it very early on the Falcon, opponent proceeded to try and pull a K-Turn rather than something that left him lined up. Still ended up lined up, and then blocked the next turn, taking a bunch of face up cards as a result. Several Direct Hits and a successful Explosion later and no more Falcon.
Well, I think we should all take a moment to give thanks that the Major gets his due in Armada.
That said, I used him in my list and was able to single handedly kill Ibtisam with AHM! It did take three of em though... The flexibility of shooting them at any range really helped over a Scimitar in my last build. In the end I realized that the Major needs a list built around him. I had him playing second fiddle. Maybe next time I need an APT guy I'll hit up Ryhmer.
Would he be broken to keep his ept?Out of interest, do people think Ryemer would be better if he was in a punisher instead of a standard bomber?

On the basis they'd run out of room on the cardboard, yes. Broken formatting, to be specific. ![]()
Side note: as amusing as AHM are, I remain terribly disappointed they're not what was hoped when they were partially spoiled: able to attack outside the arc, ignoring evade tokens. This would made a lovely symmetry with homing missiles, be less flexible than hotshots for the same price (hence the ignore evades being kept on a 3pt 3die attack)... Balanced if funky... Then bonkers on Rhymer who ends up an imperial 3-die small turret.
It might almost have made him cost effective. ![]()

Whaaat. Please use this AU to replace our universe. Gladly. Rhymer as a turret. Glorious.
Rhymer would be ace as the only small Imperial 'turret' ship.
But unfortunately, this has to remain a dream ...
... hm ... I am going to cook up this card and I test this against a friend of mine ....
Advanced Homing Missiles, 3 points: Range 2 (1-3 on Rhymer)
-I had hopes that this would be the "Rhymer special" when it was partially spoiled, but it's really another one of those cards that didn't quite do enough for its requirements. A face up damage card is cool, but you're paying serious points for Rhymer, you don't need cool, you need backbreaking.
UGH...this! I just played 3 games last week With such high hopes.
Rhymer
-Deadeye
-Ex Munitions
-Advanced Homing Missiles x2
Flown with default Vader & Marek Stele
Every shot I had with Rhymer, either the shields were already knocked down or I wanted more damage than the one crit. Heck, Rhymer even made it behind a TIE swarm at range one, and I was better off just shooting his primary.
Next time, and it will probably be a while, I'll change out one of the AHMs some other ordnance. But for 35+pts, Id rather just take 2 TIEs or another ace.

Advanced Homing Missiles (Missile, Range 2, 3pts)
ATTACK (TARGET LOCK): Discard this card to attack 1 ship (even outside your firing arc).
The defender cannot spend evade tokens during this attack.
Be sure to fly it on Rhymer and another ship (I like ATC Maarek Stele or Vader, myself, or a generic missile-toter for that Hot Shot feel) to see just how distinctly the balance works out between the the card and the card plus Rhymer. ![]()

I liked the change from Minor Explosion to Major Explosion. Minor Explosion was just a crappier Direct Hit!. Major Explosion trades Direct Hit's guaranteed second point of damage for a chance of getting a second crit through.
I agree with you about Shaken Pilot. It would have been a good crit that forced interesting choices if an action had to be spent to turn it facedown.
Shaken Pilot is just as RNG as Major Explosion. 9 times out of 10, you don't care about doing a bank instead of a straight.
That 10th time, your entire strategy can be utterly wrecked because there is no safe place to bank, and you put yourself out of the fight for a few turns.
Also, you guys left out the change from Minor Hull Breach (which was LOL on Decimators and Dash) to Major Hull Breach (which is OMG I NEED TO FLIP THAT IMMEDIATELY).
