Cards like Adrenal Stim "The chosen figure recovers 3 strain and becomes focused". I understand the ally would receive the focus, but would they recover 3 health? Searching for the answer hasn't let me to a consensus. Thanks in advance!
Question: Allies gaining strain?
I believe it would work. Because the card does not specify to choose a hero, I think the ally, if chosen, would recover health because they cannot recover strain.
I don't think this would work personally. It doesn't seem to be explicitly spelled out but under Recover in the RRG, the second bullet point says that if a hero recovers more strain than they have suffered, they recover health instead.
There's nothing in the rules that allows for allies to recover strain since strain doesn't really exist for them and it's never suggested that recovering strain which turns into recovering health ever works for non-heroes.

It definitely doesn't say to choose a hero, so I agree with that.
I just don't see anything in the rules that allow the second part here.
yeah it seems kind of ambiguous, but as the GM I would personally just let my players go for it.
I agree I can't find any definitive text in the rules. But the logic makes sense since an Ally that is forced to suffer strain takes damage instead. So why not reverse that logic to go both ways?

The rules text as written is definitive in that it doesn't rule it possible for allies recovering strain to overflow into recovering damage. That said it's entirely conceivable that this is an error in the text though so it's worth sending a query.

This is how we play it as well.
Deployment card figures do not have an endurance. (It is not 0, they do not have it at all.) We know this because allies can choose to suffer strain (converted to damage) for Prey Upon Doubt. So they also can not recover strain. (And like mentioned above, only heroes recover damage for each strain they did not recover.)
We've run this past FFG - in relations to one of Gideon's abilities to remove strain (the Fearless Leader) - and the response from Paul Winchester was that strain recovering abilities do not recover damage from Allies (as the general rule that you can recover health when you get to recover strain and have none only applies to Heroes).
