Where do I start?

By tcabril, in CoC General Discussion

All-

I have been interested in this Call of Cthulhu LCG for awhile but did not jump in - now I am thinking of trying.

Where do I start and what do I do next?

I know rather open but for a newbie who has never tried these collectible card games (yes this will be my first CCG!!!) - I just want to make sure I do it right.

Todd

First of all, buy a Core Set. this is where it begins for new players.

Then, in case you want to go further, buy differents asylums packs. I'd rather tell you to start with the AP from summons of the deep extension, in a way to create decks which are shown on this forum.

Then you can try to have up to 3 core Set et 3 of each AP's, but this is to be done once you're totally in the game.

I am not sure what this means:

"Then you can try to have up to 3 core Set et 3 of each AP's," I am new to CCG's so I am not sure of the lingo.

Do you mean buy 3 core sets or 3 Asylum Packs?

Thanks
Todd

I don't mean to be a simpleton here so please bear with me...

excactly right, go for the core set box first, it gives you all the rules, a great little boards some good cards, wicked cthulhu monsters for using in the game,

then as you get used to it, just read the description on the asylum packs and decide which ones you like the sound of most happy.gif

i think what prodigee means is you are allowed to have up to 3 copies of each card in your deck unless stated on the card otherwise or its a unique character

Okay more questions...

The reason for all this is that I am looking for something to play with my son - who is teaching me Magic the Gathering and I thought that since I was already a fan of Arkham Horror this may be good as well. Note: Since my son is young - I am going to have to do all the purchasing - hence the trepidition. I do have him raking leaves to purchase his Magic cards gran_risa.gif

Would I have to purchase two core sets - one for each of us? I gather I have to purchae two Asylum Packs (or more) - one for each of us.

Do I have that right?

no the feeling mate, kids!! no just buy one starter set, there is enough in that for you both, there is all the factions in it, so you can choose 2 factions each, mix those cards up and with a few of the neutral cards in there make up your deck.

ap packs sometimes are good for each player as if they contain cards youre not playing they are ideal, but if you was to buy 1 each, im sure their will be some in each pack for both of you :)

Thanks for all your help

I take it that the Game of Thrones LCG is the same way?

It is, Also so it Warhammer: Invasion. I am a pretty big fan of Warhammer the LCG so you may check it out. It has 4 factions now and 2 coming and the decks straight out of the box are playable, BUT they also include “bonus” cards from the 2 upcoming factions so a lot of decks can be made.

Chaos, Orcs, and Dark Elves (all can be combined to make decks)

Humans, Dwarfs, and High Elves (all can be combined to make decks)

So you can have 10 different decks straight out of the box. AND it is fun to play.

Decks possible are:
Chaos
Orcs
Humans
Dwarfs
Chaos/Orc
Chaos/Dark Elf
Orc/Dark Elf
Human/Dwarf
Human/High Elves
Dwarf/High Elves

Welcome tcabril ! For you and your son the core set will be fine. A second and third core would be pricey. Conversely, you'll have one of each card, where as the rules allow for three of each per deck. Not only will you be playing Singleton or Highlander (named after the catchphrase "There can be only one" of the movies), you must play a multi-faction deck. You will also not be tailoring card abilities to your own tactics, flavor, and desired mechanics. And buy some Asylum Packs of course.

Also, you must download the deckbuilder and its images.
