Vaguely inspired by VaynMaanen's thread a while back I've been running a list like the first one posted (dropping Mangler for some Seismics on Boba and a vicious 3-point initiative bid) with great success. Eviscerates Aces without blinking. Burns down Decimators, and as a Brobot player myself I do not envy the choices it would force upon everyone's (least) favorite cybernetic murder-twins.
And then I played against TLTs.
Even with excellent asteroid threading, multiple Range 1 closures, and reducing my opponent to a roommate who can count his number of games on one hand, TLTs, particular the Unhinged Thug variety, rip this list to shreds. I can get close, but if the Y Wing's split formation slightly each ship will still be staring down 4 largely inevitable damage a turn. Even when the **** Y Wings are bumbling into traps and landing on Asteroids it's a close thing, with only exceptional flying ekeing out a MoV win.
What is the counter? Only engage with one ship at a time, using EU to guarantee the worst incoming is a couple of primary weapon attacks? Mangler would help out a bit, but by my rough calculations losing it loses me only about 2 or 3 activations of Bossk's ability per game, and the initiative bid is **** important against the aces. The bombs, amazingly enough, have proven wondrous throughout, with maybe one or two instances of me wishing I had Stims, Dampeners, or even a Feedback or Hot Shot on the YV-666 in place of Boba's ordnance, and those usually against other lists.
