Cool Hand, with Pilot?

By Hexdot, in X-Wing

I really, really love this card art. It is inspiring to me, and as a 1 pt EPT is a good enhance if you are hard pressed, that Evade token can be gold in a X. Travelling over long distances yesterday and today, thinking new builds to change my 8 Tie or 4 T 70 builds to play in the LGS. This card is never seen. As we know, Crack Shot is so popular. The use and discard EPTs are disliked in my area, only Crack is selected. I want to give it a try, not looking for a tier combo, just an efficient way to employ Cool Hand.

The easy way is to equip it in a A wing Ace capable of selecting two EPTs. But I want to try it on a X or a B. A B wing, so many Reds, is perhaps an ideal ship, the Evade token is a extra Shield for only one point, if somebody shoots you, very often you are hit.

Ideas?

As I've said before, I think it goes well with Targeting Astromech on the T-70.

On an IG with glitterstim. If you get in a tight spot you pop glitterstim and get an evade from cool hand and become very survivable. Haven't actually tried it, but it might be half decent.

Mmmm...interesting. And it is a cheap combo. Perhaps the time to dance with a T 70 Named is near.

When the new scum B-wing thing comes out I think you'll see it on that. Lots of red on that dial.

Eh, I'd almost always rather have Wired.

Which is true of this EPT in general. Wired feels more likely to be useful on the sort of ships I fly most often.

Yer that's the reason you don't see cool hand :(

I think it might see a use on TIE Shuttle Tomax, but it's super-expensive to run him as a support ship, and even then, I suspect Crack Shot is more useful.

When you absolutely have to hit.

Only works once card that works better versus always-on card that works worse.

I guess it really depends how often you expect your ordnance carriers to be shot at whilst stressed, which I guess is actually not that often.

Best use I've seen is on the upcoming Tomax Bren in a TIE Shuttle. Pair with Fleet Officer, hand out two focus, get s third for yourself.

Trialling it on Biggs at the moment. One more evade to keep him around one extra round.

As I've said before, I think it goes well with Targeting Astromech on the T-70.

But then you've loaded up your EPT X-Wing for that one time when it does a K-Turn.

Isn't it more efficient to just spend those 3 points on Predator, which gives the perpetual attack re-roll, even after you've K-Turned? You lose that extra focus/evade on the K-Turn or T-Roll, but you gain the predator effect all game long, including on that initial joust. Just sayin'.

Or even give out a focus, plop one on yourself from officer and get an evade from cool hand.

or.... a focus and evade for yourself.

for 28 points you can hand out a focus, take a focus and add an evade.

then you can either add Int agent, or tactician for your choice of strategic planning help.

in a super dire situation where you're taking fire from a Stresshog, pop that baby twice and add two evades. yeah it'll cost you the EPT, btu keep you alive (maybe) or soaking more shots supporting other ships even further.

I like that on a Red Squadron Vet or mid tier named guy. Kind of named guy? Anyways, it's not a bad option. I like it.

You can't pop it twice.

The only place I've seen moderate success with it is on the self stressing HWKs, Jan or Dace. Use the ability, and if you're in a tight spot, grab that evade or stack up another focus onto Moldy Crow if you're running it.

But I had never thought about the interaction with Targeting Mech. I can see that working very well with some munitions. Too bad there is no E-wing generic w/ an EPT. I'd almost be willing to give that a try. Cool Hand, targeting mech, Plasma or proton torps and guidance chips.

You can't pop it twice.

You can in the scenario he proposed. That's if he stressed himself with fleet officer in the activation phase and used the ability of Tomax Bren to retain the card, then something stressed you in the combat phase, like a Stresshog, and you use the card again, but discard it this time.

You can't pop it twice.

Once per opportunity prevents it from triggering twice on the same stress, but two different stresses, Tomax can pop it once, once per round flip it back, then when he takes the second stress, pop it again. He doesn't get to use it any more after that because his trigger will never be fulfilled again, but he can potentially use it twice in the same round if it triggers twice.

By the same token, he can potentially do double crack shot cluster missiles...

This. I play this on my wingmen as I really enjoy list of:

Whatever Named pilot you like - 38pts

2x Red Squadron Veteran

-Targeting Astromech

-Cool Hand

-Weapons Guidance

-Integrated Astromech

They are quite consistent and self-reliable. And if you need few extra points, you can drop Weapons Guidance. But make a T-Roll (like a troll) and have Focus+Target Lock is very nice!

360 Tomaxxx

Lightning Reflexes.

1 forward

double trigger

double stress

Airhorns '360 MLG No scope'

????

win?

I was considering that exact build, and the alternative I was thinking of was maybe switching the Weapons Guidance for Flechettes.
