5 points of epic: 300 pt lists for both Epic Ships

By Blail Blerg, in X-Wing

A funny idea a friend and I had to try as its own format: 300 points, and you're required to use both Epic ships of the faction. (No scum yet sorry! Just play normal epic!)

Now, I've already had some good ideas for the Corvette and the Transport, but I'm at a little loss what fun idea/synergy/role filling I should do with the Riader Gozanti and its entourage.

Any thoughts?

One of the possibilities for simplicity is a fire-heavy Raider, a Gozanti with either Palpatine (less ships) or Rebel Captive and Engine Booster, and then 3 or 4 Tie Adv with Accuracy Corrector for basic damage.

Maybe missiles might be quite good now with Guidance chips.

This is how I'd run a 300 point with both huge ships. Raider is geared to just unload 4 dice attacks. Gonzanti brings in wampa and 3 blacks to flank. Howlrunner and the other blacks just support the raider as it will be the one killing everything. Set up everyone right next to each other and head toward middle. The Gonzanti is weak but could switch out upgrades to make it not a drop ship. Best advice: cheaper is better on huge ships, get upgrades but the inexpensive ones.

Impetuous is 4 points btw ,and ordnance tubes plus ordnance is very expensive, youre spending 18 points on those plus 5 more for ordnance experts.

I assure you 10 points for two hardpoints is enough.

I know that you can just spam a bunch of simple ships, but I'm hoping there's more interesting options.

3 hard points would be 18 to 24 points. In quads ions or singles. Two protons and a homing is the low end of the spectrum. Honestly if your flying both huge ships I'd bump it up to team rules if 3 epic points and 200 for each person. That's 400 v 400 and the huge ships fit much better when you have to only spend half your points in them and not 2/3s.

So, I just wasted the past half hour thinking about this. Thanks for making my Friday interesting.

One thing I noticed was that two of the Gozanti titles increase your Energy! I never knew that. It's pretty cool.

I think I'd go:

GOZANTI

Optimized Generators

Vector title

Gunnery Team

Docking Clamps

Broadcast Array

Dual Laser Turret

RAIDER (FORE)

Ordnance Tubes

Ion Torpedo

RAIDER (AFT)

Impetuous title

At this point, there are a number of ways you can go for the rest of the builds. I started thinking that you might want to go with as Many Tie Fighters as you can. Four on the Gozanti and four flying free. That could work. Make them all Black Shot and you can get past the Reinforce action.

I then started to think about having some sort of alpha strike, as well. Tie Adv. with missiles could really work. I think going with Storm Squadron for the PS 4 is good. Firing at the same time as the big ships. I didn't have the points for Homing Missiles, which are the best, but then thought Accuracy and Cluster is not bad. Hard to get R3 shots with missiles on big ships, anyways. It isn't good for clearing out the other snub nosed ships, though. THAT's where I think these guys would be best used. Use them to pound his fighter screen and then go for the CR-90 with your big ships without bother. That's a slug match in your favor. You can kill the Broadcast Array off the Gozanti to get a few more points. I think that would be enough to upgrade to Concussion Missiles all around. Homing is best, but what can you do? That way you can pound whatever else the Rebels have in the way of small ships and let your superior Raider and Gozanti beat down the CR-90.

You could also go with 5 Alpha Squadron Tie Interceptors with Auto Thrusters (or 5 Sabres without if you cut off Broadcast Array and Autothrusters). These guys are super fast and can dish out the pain with the 3 attack dice. Fast and painful is huge in Epic. You can intercept their fighter craft as best you can. They are a bit more fragile than the Advanced, though, so might not live as long.

Well....that's what I would do. Thanks for the distraction!

Now THAT's a response.

Yes. I wanted to know what you'd think about doing with your remaining escorts.

Also, isn't it a fun problem?

Maybe in a little bit I'll show off the funny Transport Corvette build I had. =)

Yeah, I love this stuff.

When you think about your opponent, they are probably only going to have about 100 pts to spend on their escorts, as well. So, what is it they will take? They can go with a lot of different options. They can't spam TLT's, but if they go with 4 of them, you should easily be able to shred the TLTs with this list. I think the Tie Adv. might work best for whatever they pick as Concussion or Homing would be great vs. anything they bring. It takes them down fast and allows you to fight ship vs. ship. Maybe even the Adv adding in.

I put on Broadcast Array as being able to stress a small ship could be really effective at this small level. I would say, though, that if you are going with the alpha strike against their escorts, then it might not be needed. If you kill them fast, you can save those points.

If you wanted to save some more points, you can probably drop Ion Torpedo down to Plasma Torpedo. I was thinking there would be more small fighters involved and it would be good. It's still good to drop an Energy on the enemy with the Ion, but I'm thinking dropping a shield would be better at this point. Plasma is also cheaper.

You an also probably drop Impetuous title. You won't need it once their small ships are dead. Drop that and either just upgrade to Homing on that, or even use it for something else.

Strom provides close defense, his ability preventing the enemy from dealing serious damage to the lumbering beasts.

The Requiem is, eventually, expendable, it dies before the Impetuous, Ozzel fueling the repair droid as needed.

The missiles on the Impetuous will do serious damage to any ship foolish enough to approach.
