Colzet VS Corran

These two pilots went up against each other in my last game. My Lt. Colzet verse Corran Horan. I had given away initiative as I wanted to send my target lock before Corran could shoot. It didn't come up but if Colzet flipped a direct hit on Corran, would Corran still be alive to shoot in the end phase? Kind of like simultaneous fire runs for attacking. But as these aren't attack they are abilities can you activate yours if you died before hand.

The situation could have been reversed, Corran shoots at end phase, kills Colzet, can Colzet still spend his target lock?

Yes, because you gave him initiative he would resolve his ability first. If you had taken initiative no because yours resolves first and kills him.

I had initiative. I mistyped that. Like I said I wanted to spend target lock first. So this would prevent Corran from shooting then if he died first?

Yes. He doesn't get a chance to resolve this ability if he's dead, and the order would be decided by initiative. It's not Simultaneous Fire, that wouldn't apply.

In the Rules Reference Guide, it states:

" If multiple abilities resolve at the same time, the player with initiative chooses which of his abilities to resolve and resolves them in order of his choosing. Then he opposing player does the same for their own abilities. - Page 8. Card Abilities.

Destroying Ships, Page 10

"A ship is destroyed when it has a number of damage cards equal to it's hull value or when it flees the battlefield. When a ship is destroyed, remove it from the play area, discard all of it's damage cards and return all of its tokens to the supply area.

- If the simultaneous attack rule delays a ship's destruction, it is instead destroyed after it has had its opportunity to attack this round."

Given your above example I would say that Corran is dead before he gets to shoot again, if you had initiative.

Corrans ability happens in the End phase. Ships are removed from play after being destroyed in the combat phase (99% of the time), and therefore do not make it to the end phase. Corrans ability wouldn't go off no matter what.

This FAQ entry for Corran Horn muddies things up a bit here and makes a decent case for Corran still being able to attack even if Colzet flipped up a Direct Hit! on him.

"Corran Horn
Corran Horn performs his additional attack at
the start of the End phase, before evade
and focus tokens are removed.
If both players field Corran Horn, the player
with initiative chooses first whether or not to
resolve his ability and attack. If the second
Corran Horn is destroyed by this attack, do
not remove him from the play area. He still
has the opportunity to resolve his ability this
round before he is removed."

basically as above, as they are both at the start of the end phase, the player with initiative has the chance to activate their ability first, if Corran is destroyed, that's it, he doesn't;t get to attack again.

interestingly if he gets blinded pilot, he could choose to double tap, not shoot, and then shoot at the next available chance, or not shoot next round, but take the double tap
