Dodonna the Oppressor

How do you deal with firespray rhymer balls?

I haven't played one yet, just curious as to your thoughts on it?

Also tweaked the build ever so slightly, dropped Intel on dodonnas ship and added jaina's light, 389 initiative and now you have an objective ship.

Against Mikael Hasselstein who had the fireball going on, I flew one of my MC30's in at his flagship as the last activation of turn 2 right into its side and double arcing him. I then activated it first after it lost almost all its side and rear shields to squadrons but took no hull damage. It did not kill him outright but it got his attention fast and he focused on it which was perfect for me.

You have to remember that they are strong and you can't last under a continuous onslaught. You can however break the camels back.

The mission was precision strike and I have 10 Victory tokens by the end but I did lose both MC30's and a CR90. I still won by a 9-1 though.

So I play tested this list in preparation for a tournament. This list falls apart when it doesn't have initiative and is facing a fireball. Kind of reinforces the harder initiative bid. Another thought is to play defensively when playing second as opposed to super aggressive. I want Dodonna to stay alive and maybe do some clean up duty late game, so that's why I figure to drop Intel officer on it. You have to be able to go first though.

I have a raging clue for engine techs. What are your thoughts on engine techs in this list?

Ever seen your opponent rage because theyes never get a front arc shot from an ISD? :P

Also I only own 2 trcs and I think I'm short 1 Intel officer. I'm going to buy another mc30 bit I'm not buying another NebB or VSD for one upgrade card. What would you suggest as a replacement? Or just use the points for bid?

I almost had an opponent rage because they could not kill the MC30 with a ton of firepower.

I went 1/1 tonight. I came up on my friend's Shield Tank ISD list and Rhymer Ball. I flew poorly though. I was afraid of the Rhymer Ball and I tried to fly around it and got destroyed for it. I should have punched through it and tore up his command ship.

Game 2 was different. My friend was running tripple ISDs with Ozzel and tractor beams, just to try it out. I wasn't sure how he was going to deploy so I spread my corvettes out a little and then dropped the MC30s together on one side. I got a corvette exploded in round 2 and Dodonna in round 3, but not before he threw a bunch of damage at an ISD. I managed to take down two destroyers without losing another ship and won by 100+ points.

It seems like a strong list.

Finally put a variant of this on the table, and I have to say, it was a lot of fun. Crushed a two ship Imperial fighter list, I think 9-1. Totally forgot Jan for the first two crits, which was a little sad. But all that intel was fun for me.

I do love the controlling factor one has over the crits of an enemy ship.

This list punishes bad play and rewards smart exchanges.

The list is consistent on damage so make use of that. Don't fear the Rhymerball as much. 1 out of 4 bombers should miss and you have tons of tokens.

Amusingly Rhymer didn't actually matter this game. My opponent made smart choices in using his bombers and never actually needed a medium range shot. So my tokens were largely irrelevant.

You're right it is consistent on damage. Seemed about 3/shot. A random exchange before a corvette popped on turn 2 ended up being the deciding factor on turn 5.

How do you feel about 4 cloned mc30s and dodanna?

Ya I know I just hate net decking. I always want to make it my own. :P

Net listing is not as big of a thing here because you could of come up with it even without looking. It is also not like this list has won a major tournament yet

I died fast to a yavaris b wing like bomber ball. 9-1 They had Dodonna and Luke killed a vette in one turn. Yeah, one turn. And then it was downhill from there. I didn't even get a shot off on his mc80 before the fighters chewed me to pieces :( he has a wicked strong list so there's that. I honestly think that is the ONLY weakness this list has. Yavaris double tap Bs with aldor on Luke. But then again that list would be stupid weak against a fighter screen. So the cycle continues with Armada. Some build will always beat another build. :) I love it!

It's too bad they didn't put black or 2 blue dice on the cheaper corvette.

Also didn't consider using the corvettes for pure anti squadron.... That's not a bad idea...

Do opponents ever actually chuck the brace, when intelled by your TRC90's?

More often than not, what I will do is throw a shot out at them force them to use one of the double tokens with an early hit then I will IO the green version of that token. This will lead to them losing tokens and then being forced to burn that brace or not last long. If they don't they rake more damage so it is always a win.

On ships like a Gladiator or a Assault Frigate Mark IIB, I always hit that evade when at range.

Have you ran any changes to this list recently? also do you think an imperial version of this would be viable? 3xcorvettes and 2xglads?

I think there's a couple of Major Rebel-only portions of it that, without being able to replicate, just leaves you having to pursue a different archtype instead...

1) Intel Officer + TRC means you're able to put on respectable damage at range, and in doing so, force people to burn that Brace early... The Imperials just cannot match this with Raiders + Glads. You don't have the Red Dice to Manipulate.

2) Dodonna is a big factor in it - being able to Choose the Criticals puts the damper on, as you're able to force them through...

3) Admonition and Foresight on the main Brawlers makes a huge difference. Respectively, Gladiators are just not as survivable... They have the Extra Hull + Brace, but its offset by fewer shields and only the single Evade...

I mean, it may be possible... But you're not going to be mocking up a "Screed the Oppressor" list... You'll be making a Clonisher Clone in the End and pursuing a slightly different strategy to win.

There is one aspect that the Imperials can do that the current Vassal team tournament has shown me. The Imperials can bid lower without losing too much power.

The fact that they lack the use of TRC's means that they can't bring consistent levels of damage but they can out do this list in deployment and in activations if they go MSU as well.

I will note that I did lose my first game with Dodonna the Oppressor. It was on Vassal against Matt Shadowlord.

The point spread was really close though and it was due to a few mistakes I made.

The objective was Precision Strike:

Matt had 236 points in kills (Flagship, Admonition and a CR90) and 75 Victory Points. So 311 in total.

I killed 155 points but got 150 in victory points.

Points: 392/400

Commander: Garm Bel Iblis

Assault Frigate Mark II B (72 points)

- Gunnery Team ( 7 points)

- Boosted Comms ( 4 points)

- Electronic Countermeasures ( 7 points)

- XI7 Turbolasers ( 6 points)

[ flagship ] MC80 Command Cruiser (106 points)

- Garm Bel Iblis ( 25 points)

- Independence ( 8 points)

- Toryn Farr ( 7 points)

- Boosted Comms ( 4 points)

- Electronic Countermeasures ( 7 points)

2 YT-1300s ( 26 points)

2 YT-2400s ( 32 points)

1 Jan Ors ( 19 points)

4 B-Wing Squadrons ( 56 points)

The squadrons hurt me but in the end were not my undoing. It was the fact that I kept my TRC90's out of the combat too long and some spikey rolls (Bursts of 8 damage followed by blanks on the second arc. . . Bleh)

We also had some damage card issues which could of lent to messing up some ratios but there is no way to know and it could just be me not liking Vassal ;P
