Possible Dirty trick with Miranda

By eagletsi111, in X-Wing

Pretty sure cluster missles trigger gunner ONLY if both attacks fluff. Can't check the FAQ right now. Wouldn't TLT be the same?

You are right on Cluster Missiles.

But Gunner MUST trigger off either TLT miss, which means the three-shot shenanigans I suggested will not proc if you miss on the first TLT shot.

TLT: "Perform this attack twice..."

Gunner: "After you perform an attack that does not hit, [you must] immediately perform a primary weapon attack. You cannot perform another attack this round."

On a side note, if you're flying Miranda next to Jan, that's some sweet 5-dice 360 degree Range 1 attack capability.

Why haven't I ever tried that?

Gunner is worded "you may", not "you must". It is not mandatory to do his attack, e.g. you can elect not to if the first TLT or Cluster Missile misses. (But if the second one then hits, you'll have missed your opportunity to use the Gunner attack)

Egads! I should probably just go away. Not having my best day on the forums!

(Now I suddenly wonder what's printed on my actual Gunner/Luke cards, since the FAQ changed their wording...)

The real question for me...and one that I asked our TO for our Store Championship last night is this:

If running Miranda or some other pilot with TLT and Tactician, using that attack at range 2 in the firing arc, you are delivering 2 stress tokens as well, correct?

Attack....deliver stress no matter the outcome....attack again....deliver a 2nd stress no matter the outcome.

The TO agreed with the statements above. Thoughts?

As its in the FAQ that Garvin with R5P9 can spend his focus to recover a shield, even at full shields, to then hand off a focus token (to a moldy crow hawk who can bank that focus). I see no problem with spending things (dice in this case) that have almost no benfit. In this case and the case of Garvin R5P9, there would normally be no benefit.

Try a homing on Miranda with it. 6 dice missile with target lock and no evades.

Yeah I didn't realize Gavin + R5P9 was a thing in the faq. Looks like that sorts my argument and this seems entirely legal (though I remain skeptical of it as a great tactic)
