Side Mission "Friends of Old" - Some questions *Spoiler*

By Klark, in Imperial Assault Campaign

Hi guys, i recently played this mission as the IP. Threat was 4. As i read the mission, i thought it would be an easy win for the Rebels, since all they have to do is to find two Rebels troopers and make them run away. Fact is, they escaped at the very beginning of round 3. I could complain with a poor strategy of mine: deciding to kill the 2 troopers, not caring to block entrance. Wounding heroes was a too slow process... But maybe i'm missing or misunderstanding something about the mission, so here you are my doubts:

- There are 4 tokens that could hide a R-trooper, but only two of them (red and blue), as listed under "The Squad" section, reveal them, green and yellow are just decoys. Correct?

- In 4th point of mission briefing, it is stated that, starting with end of round 4, IP should reveal a token and replace it with a R-trooper. Had the figure to be placed for revealing green and yellow tokens, too? (I think yes) If that so, there could be more three or four R-troopers around the map (assuming the others already revealed, still alive and not escaped yet). Had events in "The Squad" to be resolved or just the Stun and damage to be applied to the figure?

- I thought tokens as spaces that could be entered and that a figure could stand over them. While this happening and a R-trooper had to be spawned, since token square is occupied, i deployed it (IP choice) as near as possible to it. Correct?

- When two or more R-troopers are in play, how Rebels activate them? As a team, like Deployment cards do, or individually?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

The Rebel Troopers are controlled as allies using their deployment card. The deployment card enters the game ready, and exhausts when the rebels activate the group. Each figure is then activated in their preferred order. The deployment card readies at the ready step of the status phase.

This mission is swingy. Depending on luck it can be over in 2 rounds for rebel victory or take 5 rounds and be a close fight. The longer it takes, the more chances the imperial player has to win.

- Green also contains a rebel trooper. Yellow is a surprise. If the imperial player reveals them, you still perform the appropriate part of The Squad.

- A figure can stand on a token to interact. If the token ends up revealing a figure, place it in the closest possible space (imperial choice at the time of this writing).

I would like to ask for a clarification of the rules and reward of this mission!

1. The rules sates the rebel wins if they get to rescue 2 rebel troopers, but what if IP kills 1 and the rebels rescue 1? Then the mission would be a draw or a very long time to play as the imperial player have to eliminate the entire Group of players for the mission to end. In the mission setup it only states 2 rebeltroopers, but the ally card shows 3, which would make more sence for avoiding the mentioned stalement.

2. Does the rebels get the rebel trooper as a reward in addition to command skill card?

The IP needs to defeat 2 Rebel Troopers to win. The Rebels need to rescue 2 Rebel Troopers to win.

If one rebel trooper is rescued and one defeated, keep playing!

1. The mission setup does not state any Rebel Troopers. There are 4 tokens, each of which can hide a rebel trooper. (But there are only 3 Rebel Troopers in a rebel trooper group, so apparently not all 4 can actually contain a rebel trooper.)

2. Yes, the mission reward section says that the rebels gain the Rebel Troopers as allies and Gideon also receives the reward card (which gives 2-threat discount to using them).

Note: Rebel Troopers in this mission cannot spend more than 1 action to move during their activation, and they share a single deployment card meaning that the actions/movement of these troopers is very limited. If the heroes move too quickly, they risk putting the Troopers in jeopardy if they activate the Troopers, then reveal another Trooper who would have to wait until the next round for the deployment card to ready before he could actviate. If the rebels take too much time, the Imperial player can reveal and execute them.

Gideon's Command ability is critical in this mission to be used to move Troopers if the rebels want to succeed.

Since neither one can win, then it is pointless and timeconsuming to og on, as the imperial player can just wait and get enough threat to summon a large Group to finnish the players off as that is the only way to finnish that scenario. So the mission should be a lot harder for the rebels considering the powerful reward or at least 3 rebel troopers to prevent a stalemate.

Since neither one can win

If you read the mission rules for each token, you'll find that there are 3 hidden rebel troopers. When two rebel troopers have been rescued, the mission ends. When two rebel troopers have been defeated, the mission ends. One or the other always happens. There is no stalemate.

No it does not in my Version anyway. It only states 2 rebeltroopers 1 imperial officer and 1 probe droid.

I'm not aware of older or newer printing of the campaign book. You're misinterpreting the mission rules.

*Neutral mission tokens represent hidden rebels. A hero can interact with a mission token (insight) to reveal that token and replace it with a Rebel Trooper figure. Heroes control Rebel Troopers as allies.

Red, Blue, and Green tokens thus reveal a Rebel Trooper figure. The Yellow token has specific instructions: Instead of replacing the Yellow token with a rebel trooper though, it reveals an elite Imperial Officer.

Understand now?

Specifically, I believe he is misreading the Green token, which states "The active hero, if any, may interrupt to perform a move or attack. Deploy the reserved probe droid." A Rebel Trooper is still placed in this token's former location, but it's the only one which doesn't directly reference the rebel trooper in the effects.
