Dice cancelling question

By Mackaywarrior, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I know this is probably a dumb question but I went to a board game shop in my area and was told that you can cancel critical hits with evade rolls first. Don't you have to cancel critical hits after all other hits have been cancelled?

I believe there is an upgrade or pilot that is coming out that will allow you to cancel crits first, but you are right in that the normal procedure is to cancel hits before crits.

IF he was talking about cancelling results from an Autoblaster he would be correct because the [booms] from an Autoblaster attack can not be cancelled by dice results which includes evade tokens. Otherwise the rule is that all of the hits/booms must be dealt with first, either via defense dice or removal of shield tokens if defense is finished, before crits/kabooms are dealt with.

Most of the time if someone is cancelling crits before hits I would say they are cheating with the very outside chance they are new to the game an may not know better.

Was there a secondary weapon involved?

Autoblaster - Range 1 Cannon, Attack Value: 3

Attack: Attack 1 ship.

Your {boom} results cannot be canceled by defense dice.

The defender may cancel {kaboom} results before {boom} results.

Autoblaster Turret - Range 1 Turret, Attack Value: 2

Attack: Attack 1 ship (even a ship outside your firing arc).

Your {boom} results cannot be canceled by defense dice. The defender may cancel {kaboom} results before {boom} results.

No secondary weapons involved. He was referring to a primary attack. Thanks for the clarification!

Hand buddy a rule book next time and ask him point out where he's correct

Give him a hint by telling him he'll probably find it on page 5.
