Keyan + Rage Theory

By Phoenix8472, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'm trying to decide if Keyan Farlander and Rage work well together.

The plan so far is this

Keyan Farlander (34) - B-Wing

Rage (1), Fire Control System (2), B-Wing/E2 (1), Hera Syndulla (1)

Rage gives focus token and two stress plus a three dice reroll.

Use one of those stress to activate Keyans ability turning focus results into hits (pseudo-focus) with a reroll (pseudo-target lock). FCS gives us a TL. Still got Focus token for defence.

Next turn can't action but have a TL from FCS previously so don't need TL action and can use another stress token to act as a pseudo-focus so it is almost like performing a focus action anyway.

If we really need to then we can reveal a red move due to Hera.

The only thing being sacrificed is easy access to barrel roll actions. Now we don't use rage unless it is going to be a good attack, is this going to work or is it too difficult for a B-Wing to lose stress? And what if we take Kanan Janus instead to lose that extra stress token with a white move and Rage again next turn?!

Crazy idea or could it work?

Comments and criticisms welcome!

i feel like you dont need FCS if you're running rage.

the Keyan I'll run is

Keyan, Rage Adv. Sensors, title Jans Ors.

So you Adv Sensors Rage, do green then turn focus to an evade and have all rerolls.

Depends what you fly also in list.

For example if you have wingman and can remove extra stress it would be nice. Another question do you need TL and Rage reroll together? :) Yes it's better, but 2 stress is not the best thing. You can shed 1 stress and 1 for ability. Worst will be if you have no chance to use stress as focus and stuck with 2 stress, that will be hard next turns.

with my above build you can run,

Red Ace

r2d2

Comms Relay

AT

and a Stresshog for 100

or...

stresshog

Biggs with R4-D6 and IA

and a bandit.

basically running PHeavers list but with a B instead of Poe.

or drop biggs and run 2 Talas and a bandit if you want bodies.

or just three bandits for 2 points of init.

You can always use Keyans ability to lose stress even if you don't roll any focus results (it's in the FAQ) so I'm not worried about that. Adv Sensors rage sounds good but the B-Wing is seriously lacking in green moves!

Was thinking FCS to have a TL when you can't action the turn after rage but adv sensors & Kanan to shed stress on greens and whites sounds like a better option.

Anyone have any other crazy ideas? (Edit: ninja'd! Nice list ideas Panic)

Ezra Bridger Crew will work well on Keyan...

"While stressed turn one focus to a critical.

I don't like it. Double stress is 'manageable' in a pinch, but definitely not what he prefers regularly. Then consider he comes stock with half of rage built in and the end result is some rerolls at the expense of actions and mobility.

You could leave Advanced Sensors off altogether and clear the stress with next turn's green. Slightly more predictable, but pretty darn cheap for a solid Keyan build.

To me this is a little too redundant, since Keyan's going to use stress to turn all eyeballs anyway. You're paying 4 points for Calculation at that point.

I've seen a lot of naysaying about Rage on anyone but Tycho. Kanan Jarrus goes a long way towards mitigating Rage. Doesn't even have to ride shotgun on the B-wing.

I personally don't like the idea.

But Kanan Jarrus could help as long as he is in the fleet as well. It would open up his dual more to help remove stress. But of course you would have to stay at range 1-2 of the ship he's on.

Unless you plan on triggering Rage in your first attack, with a B-wing it feels like you might as well take Fire Control System.

That said, Hera and Keyan's abilities to deal with the consequences quickly. As noted, Advanced Sensors lets you burn off the stress FAST.

If you can stomach putting the points into him, one of Rage's big advantages is that it works with each attack - you could take Rage, B-Wing/E and Gunner....if someone dodges the first shot, you can burn off both stress in one shooting phase.

With Rage/advanced sensors, You save a couple of points over push the limit/advanced sensors, and the rerolls are available on the first shot you fire - even against a higher PS pilot you might struggle to target lock. I think it's probably a good combo for a heavy laser cannon - trying to get a 4-hit shot down range on the first turn and maybe blow away a TIE before it shoots.

Angry B-wings:

  • Keyan Farlander - Rage, Advanced Sensors, Heavy Laser Cannon
  • Ibitsam, Rage, Heavy Laser Cannon, B-Wing/E, Hera Syndulla
  • Bandit Squadron Pilot
  • Bandit Squadron Pilot

I kind of like Rage on Keyan. This build is expensive but has in built survivability and guaranteed hits if you do find yourself overstressed.

Keyan, Accuracy Corrector, Autoblaster, Rage, B Wing E2, C3PO.

He would be mean at range 1 with 2 to 3 uncancellable hits. For defence just call 0. You have a 5/8 chance of getting the zero but 3 of them might be a focus. Use the one you got from the Rage and that's 2 evades. Bonus. There's several ways of getting rid of the second stress, green move, wingman or Kanan Jarrus on a nearby ship. Or just keep it, you got accuracy corrector.
