What's the market for repaints?

By ricefrisbeetreats, in Star Wars: Armada

If FFG released a $70 "High Command" box set with an alt scheme VSD and GLAD for instance, would you buy it based solely on the alternate paintjobs? It could also be a NEB B and AFMK2 for the Rebel/Imperial only players.

I'm looking at the price point of this game and it seems like it would be a tough sell to do double packs and selling a second ship of the same type with a different color would be confusing for people buying into the game.

Yeah...I'm a bit lost on the purpose of this post.

I'm considering buying a 3rd ISD. I'm curious if people think there will be or want repaints like the Xwing line.

double post

Interesting question. I would personally like the idea if there would be different colour schemes available for expansion pack ships. Like, for a holiday or something, FFG would put out a "limited edition" Victory-class Expansion, in which the ship has some sort of fleet markings, or has an all out different paint job.

I'm sure there are a bunch of fans out there who would love a few "Death Squadron" ISDs, or 181st Fighter Wing TIE Interceptors, Rouge Squadron X-wings and so on. :)

I'd buy it if there were different cards in the pack that added something to the game (not just were ludicrously overpowered).

I'd then re-paint the ships, same as always.

New titles and stuff would be nice too especially the Glad.

Yeah if FFG follows their Standard Operating Procedure they would release a repaint or alternate theme of a ship along with items to re-balance that ship like titles or even if we are lucky, new ship cards to tweak point costs/stats

I appreciate the fact that the models are mostly painted to an acceptable standard and would personally appreciate color variants, if that only means I can fight different looking ships. I'll personally continue to repaint just about everything I get :)

I come from a background where I was the only one in like a 50 square mile radius who painted and weathered all of my 40k dudes. They looked really cool on my shelf. But then I'd play a game against "Emperor's grey and pewter knights of monochromacity" every week and kind of wonder why I bothered playing the game at all as it really detracted from the experience for me. And then I needed ammo so I sold everything. ::cough::

Anyways, I would REALLY appreciate some more titles and some "chardaan refits" as the game evolves. Here are a couple items I'd really, really hope for some day:

-Neb-B upgrade that allows offensive retrofit in place of support slot. Maybe just limit it to a title? That prevents expanded hangar/raymus Yavvy or gunnery team Salvy.

-Neb-B that switches rear and side arcs so it actually makes sense from how someone would design a friggin space ship. (The "Oh yeah, shields and guns are good" refit might be a good name for it)

-Victory title that switches offensive team with support team (engine-tech or nav team VSD! But, properly limited to no ord-exp or gunnery teams to keep things balanced)

-Rogue squadron x-wings with black bomber die. Maybe add rogue? Maybe not necessary if the Reb's get a decent cheap carrier (fingers crossed for the Rebels carrier!)

Edit*: OR blue bomber dice x-wings, otherwise exactly the same.

-On that note, semi-elite fighters for all factions.

-Squadron 1 or Squadron 0 variants of the MC80 and ISD with some points discount. Or, an upgrade card that nerfs squadron value to 1 in exchange for hull points or something. Maybe make it a defensive retrofit so it doesn't get too out of hand (reinforced superstructure- add Motti hull, ship has squadron value of 1)

They can easily do ship specific upgrade cards that occupy specific slots that do things like reduce FP cost (negative cost cards) or swap upgrade types etc. to help rebalance specific ships. I believe they do it in X-wing fairly often.

Would be an easy way to give certain setups that have sub-optimal points to benefit ratios a boost.

For $70, not for just a different paint job, as it would cost me less to have them repainted better locally. For a upgraded, or different version probably.

I'll buy new expansions with different cards. I'm pretty indifferent about the paint job, though. The only Armada models I own that I haven't painted is the 3 R&V set (less the Firespray, because I use that bad boy.)

I could certainly see them doing this in a year or two, once they figure out what needs fixing and how to fix it and when the bottom of the EU barrel starts coming into sight.

But if you're holding off on buying that third VSD or GSD, I wouldn't be holding my breath.

Currently they seem to be fleshing out the ground floor before building on it so we will see.

Only if cards were included. I can't think of many variant colour schemes that would be different yet generic enough for a saleable repaint though.

I think it would be neat to have a 400 pt Rebel boxed fleet for phoenix squadron including a quasar, CR90's ghost, and a-wings, for just a thought.

That would be neat too. Have pre-built fleets.

Personally, I'm going to paint my stuff soon. I am not big on repaints but upgrades and alternate ships like Assault Frigate MK2 C or whatever would be neat. I'm just beginning to feel like I may have over bought. I pretty much own enough to fly 400 pts of any ship. Ha ha. Probably shoulda thought about rereleases.
