New TIE/sf information (fluff)

By Lyynark, in X-Wing

Just saw this image from a new book with cross sections of the vehicles and starships from TFA.

From what we can read out it has a 360 degree turret and missile tubes. The second crew is a dedicated gunner (much like the Y-wing). It's also substantially heavier than a normal TIE (assuming TIE/fo). What would this mean for the game?

My guess would put it at somewhat slower than a TIE/fo (less greens and/or more reds) but with an additional shield. A missile upgrade slot is given and I'm leaning toward a PWT with 2 attack dice. As for a turret upgrade slot I'm somewhat hesitant, the same goes for crew. It might get either but most certainly not both since we really don't want a cheap and highly mobile TLT+Tactician carrier.

  • 2 (360)
  • 3
  • 3
  • 2
  • Missile, Tech, (Crew or Turret)
  • Points?

What do you think given this new information?

Information is over a month old now, and has been discussed to death in the last TIE/sf thread.

Nooo regardless of what the book says a PWT is dumb. It has freaking panels in the way how would that ever work.

Rear arc for sure. 2/2/3/2, rear arc, rear firing missile slot, crew slot, tech slot, maaaaybe turret limited only to the arcs. It would be nice to have an Imperial turret, but I don't like 360 firing so much.

Points-wise somewhere just south of 20 for this version I think.

What would Mag Pulse Missiles do? I'm thinking damage to the ship hit, and all other ships within range 1 get a tractor token. That would be brutal with Blount though so maybe not.

since we really don't want a cheap and highly mobile TLT+Tactician carrier.

We have the Stresshog already, so why not?

Which is unique. Kinda a huge difference.

I'm betting that this ship will either have a crew slot with auxiliary arc or a turret slot. It won't have both. If it does have a turret slot, none of its pilots will have EPTs. Ruthlessness TLT would be way too much.

And infinitely easier to use, so the difference is not that great, imho.

Well, the stresshog is, as has been said, unique, max one per list. It also has the manouver dial of a fridge. A TIE has a really good dial and along with barrel roll it will be fairly easy to keep the ship in arc and R2. The stresshog can do neither of this and once it starts shooting any future actions go right out the window.

If it's not attack three out the front arc then there's no hope for it we don't need yet another 2 attack ship.

I expect 3 Attack from the descriptions I've read as well.

Bear in mind that it's got three cannons; two 'normal' fixed forwards, and one in the 'pod'. So it shouldn't fire to full effect all round.

The 'solar panels are in the way' argument is fair enough, but remember this is 360' whilst pointed slightly down. Apparently no-one ever comes at a Y-wing from below. This is a recon fighter designed to strafe ground targets as well - it's designed to operate alone, hence the big banks of batteries for a hyperdrive and the extra crewman, and "special forces" name

Missiles, tech, and crew and an auxiliary arc seem like a nice balance.

Mag-Pulses are originally an X-wing/TIE fighter computer game thing, and disable weapons. There is an extent "weapons disabled token" mechanic - so something featuring that might be nice.

Sciencius prediction: This will be the imperial version of the Y-wing (secondary-turret carrier), but with basic stats as a Tie/FO:

Academy Tie/SF 16pt

Attack: 2

Agility: 3
Hull: 3
Shield: 1

Action bar: Focus, Target-lock, Barrel-roll, Evade

Upgrade bar: Secondary Turret, Tech

(The 2 green turns may become white).

The Tie/SF will allow you to field four:

Tie/SF + TLT + Coms Relay = 25pt

as the imperial equivalent to the quad rebel/scum TLT-spam lists. This list trades the health/stammina from the rebel/scum TLT-spams lists for high agility and high maneuverability.

"Mass Effect"

Ho ho ho.

Watch out, those diehard HWK fans will soon have a word with you...

One other possibility - the 'snub turret' could be a tech upgrade; this would also allow you to field the 'pop-out' blaster on Poe Dameron's fighter.

I dunno - I'd be hesitant to give the T-70 any more capabilities....

That sounds like a no-need-to-discard Hot Shot Blaster!

Hotshot Turrret

Cost 5

Range 1-2

You may only equip this upgrade card if your pilot is a hotshot.

Nah, don’t think so, HWK fans are too envious of the Tie/FO/SF’s dial, Coms Relay, and 3 agility dice..

Exactly.
