MoR - My House, My Rules

By Letanir, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Quote from questbook:

At the start of the overlord turn, is Skarn is unconcsious. he recovers HEARTS equal to half of his total Heatth and is Stunned .

OL card Ward of Peace:

Play this card on 1 monster group during your turn and keep it in your play area.
Discard all conditions from this monster group.
Each monster in this group is immune to all conditions. Discard this card if a monster in this group spends a surge result during an attack

And golden rule from new Errata:

The first bullet point should read, “Some cards and abilities come in direct conflict with the rules found in this rulebook. Cards and abilities take precedence over the rules in this rulebook. Furthermore, many quest rules listed in the Quest Guides come in direct conflict with cards, abilities, and the rules found in this rulebook. The quest rules listed in the Quest Guides take precedence over cards, abilities, and the rulebook.”

So the question is: Can OL use Ward of Peace to prevent Skarn from getting that stun condition?

For me that depends on the way you treat "immunity" to conditions.

I think the key words are "start of your turn" and "during your turn". In other words, you can play Ward, but not before the effects on Skarn occur.

The card says "Play this card on 1 monster group during your turn and keep it in your play area. " So he could have played it the turn before.

I would assume, with the new golden rules, that he is stunned, regardless of this card.

Well I'm 100% sure that I can clear that stun with Ward. What about situation when Skarn is already under the effect of Ward and forced to get new stun condition?

Since the quest rules override the card rules it would seem to me that Skarn gets stunned regardless of Ward of Peace.

Just as I thought. Thanks to everyone.

Was the rule changed in the lastest Errata? I can't see why seeing as how now it makes some OL cards nearly useless.

While only newly put into the errata, the rule has unofficially been in effect for a long time. Take Castle Daerion, for example: "Sir Palamon may not recover wound by any means." How many heroes read that and said, "Oh, that's OK. Cards and abilities trump quest rules, so the disciple can use prayer of healing on Palamon anyway."? Not many, because it was clear that the quest rule was actually supposed to supercede the card ability (even though the golden rule said otherwise.) There was a band-aid solution of "the phrase 'by any means' is special," but that was never original to the rules- it just happened that in many cases the quests were written with that phrasing (but not always.)The latest update to the errata just clears the air and makes the golden rules actually line up with how the quests are designed. Which cards become useless, in your opinion?
