Is witch hunter a "basic" career?

By Emirikol, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

The movie shows the witch hunter amongst all the other basic-looking careers. Thoughts?

Jh

When you put them out like that, there doesn't seem to be too many advanced careers, does there? I don't see that as a major problem initially as beginning games are gonna be using basic careers, but i reckon FFG must be planning a career expansion pack for release earlyish next year; if they aren't they probably should be!

Well, that's not all of them. There's a lot of speculation in there. Not everything in that list is solid. Plus, we don't know how many of the 10 careers in the expansion will be advanced. It could also be that there will be an 'advanced career' supplement soon.

This list is just what we (as a group) have seen, and what we think we have seen. For example, the Priest (1-3) and Wizard (1-3) are pure speculation. It could be that the advanced careers for all three are contained on one card (with a lot of options). We just don't know yet :)

Big list

I recall Jay saying "defiant scoundrels" and "political entourage" would be two party sheet types in the GenCon video. Also, I think that's the judicial champion on the cover of the Adventurer's Toolkit.

Yes, there is a lot of stuff we've not seen yet.

jh

I suspect there will be new careers in every box (plus the Adventurer's Toolkit). There will probably be a slew of advanced careers before you're ready for them. In the mean time, bounce around in the basics until the supplements come out :) OMGWeeeeee!

About Wizard and Priests "specializations"... is it possible to think there will be more of them in the starter kit... or do we really need to wait for expansions to have the possibility to play a Jade Wizard or an Ulric Priest?

Phew! My wife (first timer at RPGs) wants to be a Grey Wizard (er.. Witch). I'm glad that their spells are in there.

I don't know. All I have on the Adventurer's Toolkit is:

•Dockhand
•Dwarf Ironbreaker
•High Elf Swordmaster
•Ratchatcher
•Wood Elf Wardancer

Those may or may not be correct. I think there are 10 careers in the kit (plus the small but vicious dog!).

I think what he was asking is can you play the other types of Wizard/Priest, I.e. are there their spell rules in the books or will their spells come in a later box?

Oh! Sorry...

Well, there are 4 basic wizard action cards that all wizards use. Then there are sets of action cards specific to the schools of wizardry. I see no reason why you couldn't mix and match them (the 3 types are pretty different) and make your own wizard school till something better comes along. You might even slip a priest card in there if appropriate and just make the casting cost/stats arcane instead of divine.

That, if true, is definitely NOT good... V2 had spells for 8 (EIGHT) imperial schools of magic with 8 different spells each, plus Necromancy and Chaos Magic.

Talking about Priests there were the full (well, almos) Imperial WFRP pantheon with dedicated spells (Again, 8 different spell set).

Moreover I believe "creating your own wizard school" would be a bit out of context in the WFRP empire... and, again, we are proposed to pay 100$ (60€) to buy a new version of WFRP that contains less material than the previous V2MainRulebook but adds in tokens, cardboards, card decks and custom dies... But we should not be afraid! In fact new shiny expansions are coming along and spending a little few money again we can be able to play a Jade or Amethyst wizard or a priest of Ulric!

(lol - sorry, couldn't resist)

The 'own school of magic' was a suggestion for a temporary solution.

Oh, and there are some areas where it contains more information than the v2 books. The Bestiary for example.

OMG You killed me with it partido_risa.gif

ROFL!

Yes, I willingly used a Doomsayer's tone to keep in line with the dark-gritty sense of humour that is a live part of WFRP.

I do not get your "temporary solution" meaning. Do you mean:

1)Use that houserule until an expansion comes out

2)I do not know how many magic schools are there in the Big Box so I threw it as a little joke telling you to wait until we get further info.

I'm looking at the box. It's #1.

Ok then... so my doomsayer tone was right... and my suspects confirmed.
