Stormtroopers Pack - Is It Worth It?

By robertpolson, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I have purchased all of the expansions so far and mostly play campaign (still haven't finished my first one).

All of the expansion packs so far have provided additional missions or agendas to the campaign play.

I see that the stormtroopers packs also provides a side mission and the agenda cards. Yes, I did look at what they are.

I am curious to know if the side mission is fun to play and if the agenda cards + reward card is fun to play with? I am debating whether to get the stormtroopers expansions pack or not.

I got the reward card without playing the mission but the reward is great with the 4xp attachement card in technological superiority.

I bought everything.

Then I bought a second pack of everything non-unique.

Then I bought the stormtroopers pack.

Nice cards and a better than average mission.

Considering the new stormtroopers are a new sculpt, you COULD use those as the elite versions and paint all others as the basic squads.

Did I buy it for completeness' sake? Yeah. If you care about completeness, will you buy it? Yeah.

But my honest opinion? No it isn't worth it. The only IA purchase so far I've been dismayed by, coming purely from a casual skirmish perspective. Passable map, OK cards, inferior sculpt. All my humble opinion.

Did I buy it for completeness' sake? Yeah. If you care about completeness, will you buy it? Yeah.

Yea, I was an outspoken advocate against this pack for awhile now but I caved recently.

Curse my addiction!

The sculpt is super meh.

However, the reward and campaign mission are good.

Still, skip it and pick up the alliance smuggler instead!

I bought it for completeness, and it's great if you want to run a stormtrooper heavy list for skirmish. But, for the campaign, this set is extremely underwhelming (mostly because the Imperial player is still limited to 2 regular and 1 elite version of troopers, even though they now have 12 figures). The resculpt is subtle, and maybe a good excuse to paint more troopers in a different scheme (maybe you want to paint them like ShadowTroopers for certain upgrade decks?)

I don't own them myself and I appreciate the answers so far. I could see that $15 for alt-sculpts for troopers and a few cards you may or may not use... May be a bit much.

But I could very much see them useful painted up differently and used for the eStormtrooper. I did that with my officers. Two are humans with the gray/green uniform, the other is a Chiss with a black uniform, he's the elite officer.

But over all I think I'd rather buy something else first, unless as I want to run a trooper heavy skirmish list.

one can not due bad with a few....STORMIES!....

The agenda cards are nice in that pack, and are one of my favourites for running a campaign.

Speaking as a newb player, I recently had my first irl game. When I was setting them out, I looked at them and asked my opponent--honestly--"aren't the Stormtrooper expansion figs supposed to be different? I know the guy I bought this off of got that expansion. So...where are they?"

I had to pick the figs up and examine them to realize that the expansion pack versions are standing up, feet shoulder-length apart, instead of leaning slightly forward and at an angle.

That's...about all that's different.

...Yippie? I guess...?

I use them as the elite group, but yes, the sculpt is underwhelming. I bought it for completeness sake, and didn't realise it didn't give me a 4th group to work with only after I bought it.

Imo, the pack is mainly for competitive skirmish players. I bought it for access to elite stormtrooper card #2, the tournament map Training Ground and the Vader's Finest card that makes Heavy Troopers good on skirmish.

Of course it's worth it! Without it, all your Stormies have the same pose!

If not for the figures, I could not resist and got the pack for the cards. The journey to getting all of Star Wars Imperial Assault is now complete :)
