try to get dash in the current meta

By TharG0RE, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi Community,

this is my first post into these froms. I kept reading a lot here the last months and as a quite new x-wing player I am really glad and thankful for all the great discussion and suggestions I could found here. Thanks a lot!

so as the topic says this post is about dash, which is ship which is great fun to fly and I can`t really let loose and want to find a solution in the current meta.

What do I understand in "current meta"- I would say its the momentary most successful lists like: 3 bs with y and stress ... han and poe ... 4tlt ... brobots ... miranda poe stresshog ... dash poe a ... y y z tx ... palp darth soontir ... decimator whisp ... double deci ... 3 x ... and maybe vrill with stresshog4 and poe and the Bosk build ... (quite big this meta ... so maybe I should say their is a great amount of dominant lists atm and I want to find an additional one after my feeling is that the traditional superdash corren build is from my point not too strong anyore) ...

My idea would be:

dash: vi, intelligence agent, hlc, title, 2x blue squadron tx with r2 and iA 100

and I would compare it probably with

dash: vi, nien nunb, hlc, title, 1bluewing fcs, title intelligent agent and, 1bluewing fcs

So, I would love to read some comments and discuss this build and its position in the competitive field. Does it stand a chance? What are your experiences against what lists is it easy? What is the difficulties and how does one need to answer these difficulties by flying style?

Many question but I believe this why we could together portrait these builds a bit. If better suggestions also welcome here- like a broad discussion.

Cheers and thanks!

I find the best way to build a list is to start with a ship or pilot you really really want to use. In this case Dash, obviously. Now, assuming you have experience with Dash, look at all the lists you already presented above. Ask yourself honestly: which of these lists scare the crap out of me? (or specifically, you flying dash), which ones do I feel confident against? Which ones am I not sure about?

Once you have broken down those builds into the three possible groups, build the rest of your list so that you have actual hard counters to the things that scare the crap out of you, and possible soft counters that you are not sure about.

So in the two lists you presented, what are the upgrades on Dash meant to help you with? What do you hope the b-wings will accomplish? Will these combinations allow you to crush those things that you are most concerned about facing?

If you are not sure about the answers, feel free to go into more depth! ;)

i believe this list can work ... i just haven`t flown it ... :D and lack a lot experience. But theorywise ...

ace list are dangerious very much- here i the squad leader needs to be very careful and then punch in for taking out one with a blow- I believe both list can develope the necessary punch, especially if one in a round before was able to play a target lock.

The intelligent agent is great against the thugs tlt ... as ps 2 with poth lists except dash who has 9 here can bring one in a better position. Rule shall be, that you do not loose dash under no circumstances early. Better you don`t loose him at all. The oponennt cant ignore the tx and also not the b wings. The simply bash out too much damage. But I suppose there will be the attempt to take out dash first as it is the obvious thing to do.

What does this list not do?! It doesnt develop stress. As a major rule start with the stress hof and develop ypur rebel list from there I can really say it makes sense. Alternatively you can do the b-wing swarm and include tactician- (mostly the stresshof is in there as well and least in my list it is) I just want to ask the question if the barrel roll dash with 360 shooting is enabling with two additional damage dealer to leave stress away.

Against soontir and darth the bs and txs protext the dnut hole.

against mrs don and poe with hof you will take out poe or mirrander one of these first. Prefeable poe.

Double Decimator shall be a thankful list to play against. Stay on r3 and shoot.

Another bwing swarm .. here dash brings the adbvantage in my pointof view (preferable more manourable then in the build i chose here- but it can already be enough to arcdodge a couple of times which should be enough. Focus on the b which is easiest to take down.

han and poe ... here I cant really say ... I believe it is one of the very strongest builds atm. with the b-wing swarm ...

ok, intelligence agent out, nien nunb in- didnt see that the ability is only r1, r2

The standard Corran and Dash list should still be really good. PTL, Engine Upgrade, HLC, Kyle Katarn, title. VI, R2-D2 and FCC on Corran.

Using the Rebel Aces, YT-2400, A- and B-Wing expansions you can substitute a B-Wing (FCS, B-Wing/E2, Nien Nunb) and 15 point A-Wing for Corran.

I will just say that VI Dash with HLC Outrider and....Navigator is a heck of a lot of fun to play! Last Regionals season I used him (w/Chewy 3po pred) and had pretty good luck with it. 13-5-1 (2 of these wins were odd man first round byes) was my Regionals record with it. With all the Poes, Vaders and Soontirs out there though along with TLT and stress I don't think it would do as well. But was quite fun and since no one else used (or still uses) Navigator it gave me the edge in terms of flying something no one else had seen before. Just something to consider :)

Another thought was 3 z95 with dash ... anyone tried? Any thoughts?

I flew against a brutal Dash and Poe list. I know it's not exactly what you are asking, but it was a powerful combination.

Dash with PTL, HLC, Outrider Title, Engine Upgrade, Recon Specialist and Proton Rockets

Poe with VI, R2-D2 and Stealth Device

Personally, I like Poe better with R5-P9 and Autothrusters, but that is going to be a factor of how you are expecting to fly. With Dash, R2-D2 certainly makes a lot of sense because you are either dealing damage with Poe or he is the bait and Dash is dealing the damage.

Putting out large asteroids and just thrashing in the middle with PTL movement and extra Focus was devastating.

I believe its really depending on against what list dash and in this case poe flies. What did you have. I like the procket idea on dash. It lets him more efficient block and change side without loosing a round of firing. Stealth device on poe I don`t really get- and also I would question recon specialist on dash.

As more as I think of it I believe it could be could to have two ships beside dash somehow. But none of the lists I saw convinced me yet that its better then the classic- with ptl kk eu hlc title corren vi, fcs, r2d2 or insztead poe with as

To be honest, I hadn't faced Dash before so I had not really included him in things I needed to deal with and didn't have a good enough plan for what was fixing to unfold after we revealed dials. That ship can move with the engine and with 6 of the largest asteroids in play, I had a terrible opening engagement and it didn't change till the end.

I was flying Poe wth VI, R5-P9, Autothrusters and Red Ace with Comm Relay, R2-D2 alongside a Stresshog. One aspect went well, I was able to get him to focus on Poe, I just wasn't able to make him pay. Good bait, bad trap... and once I had my other two ships in the asteroid blender it just went south.

It was a good eye-opening game.

I recently plyed with:

Dash, Lone Wolf, Outrider, Chewie, Mangler Cannon

2 x Blue Sq Nov X-wing T70s

Was fun and fairly competitive, won 3 lost 2 even though the first round was only my second ever game. Highlight of the day was manoeuvring around asteroids so Sootir hardly ever got a shot on Dash :) my opponent was massively frustrated and kept saying "this shouldn't be happening!"

I think Dash with any combination of jousters should be ok, but really from what I could tell, more firepower is preferred as Dash is pretty survivable and you want to hit your opponent hard early. I'm still a noob at this so might have it totally wrong though :)

Thanks for all these good shares of experiences and ideas.

I believe the chewie build and the version with the b-wings are promising. But still I believe it doesnt run out poe or corren as company for dash.

So, my idea would be to start here discussing, sharing again how to approach different lists with dash and poe.

First I bring in 4 tlt. I had that two times in Store Championships. 2 with title 2 without, all 4 with without title. The first I managed to win with dash and corren. But to be honest, my opponent didnt had the best dice. I played last week again gainst 4 tlt- And I jousted in with 2 z95, cynid and poe to r1 and r2. Both Z95 did, no tlt went down. In that game I am referring here- the first tlt died straight away with the firt joust. And even if corren dies- Dash outmanouvers the rest eventually. But I believe without killing one tlt with the first attack it already looking dark for Dash / Corren Dash/ Poe. I one time won with half a dash left and my opponent one tlt. Second I lost with my opponent still havin 3 tlt`s - here I managed to kill one in first attack round but dash died 2 rounds later due to stupid flying from my side.

What opinion and experiences did you make? Who won maybe couple of times gainst tlt and can share how to do it best from his/her point of view?

I can't speak to the interface with the meta, but played this list recently.

Good stuff:

Dash Rendar (52) - YT-2400

Predator (3), "Mangler" Cannon (4), Cluster Missiles (4), Outrider (5)

Corran Horn (45) - E-Wing

Push The Limit (3), R2-D2 (4), Advanced Sensors (3)

If twin lasers are you biggest concern, then you can build Corran with sensor jammer:

Corran w/ predator, jammer, R2-D2 & engine = 50

Or drop engine for 46. Either way, he's a bit expensive....

I personally like Ello more than Poe. Poe has a big weakness: he's addicted to the focus action, and to beat 4 twin lasers, you need to boost often, so I don't think he's the ideal choice.

Ello w/ lone wolf, R2-D2 & autothrusters = 38

Dash w/ PTL, kyle, outrider, HLC, engine & proton rockets = 61

99

Bait with Dash to allow Ello in on the flank or behind (skirt range 3 then when the opportunity presents itself, try to get into R1). Dash skirts the edges of R3 (preferrably only 1 or maybe 2 TLTs in range at a time) and does as much damage as he can until he dies. If you end up 2 y-wings vs Ello, you just have to kill one more before time and you win.

The current standard of Dash, Title, HLC has conditioned people to get into range 1, and Dash players to keep people out of that bubble.

Use that to your advantage and don't equip those 12 points. Instead, you must hunt for the range 1 to attack for 3 dice. Use the rest of the squad to make it a catch-22, being caught between Scylla and Charibdis.

How about Dash & Doni? You can fit the full 58 Dash(PTL,KYLE KATARN,HLC,OUTRIDER,EU) in with a TLT,Advanced Slam Doni leaving 5 points for bombs/crew. I faced off against this list last tournament I played in, and it pushed my filthy Regen Aces & Stresshog something fierce to try and nail down those 2 ships.

Hey,

thank you - i like this idea and just go news froma friend in the nl that he won with super dash and doni a small sc. He is a pretty experienced and good player too. Can`t say that about me. Not enough games to call myself experienced or very good yet. Anyway ... how does this list approach against 4 tlt? brobots? a tie swarm? Some general strategy or tactic advises? How do the the placement of which obsticles gainst tlt? How to approach in the first rounds? Starting with tlt we could step slowly forward if I find some of you who would like to analyze it a bit. Links and additional outtopic information welcome.

and is there experiences with 3 z95?

I'll work this back to front as your second question has a short answer, and your first post requires something more involved.

I don't have experience flying 3 Z-95's and a large ship. Paul Heaver, 3 Times world champion used them to win in 2014(Fat Han rather than Fat Dash, but the headhunter use doesn't change) and he wrote a good article about the experience here-
http://teamcovenant.com/worlds-winners-report/

As for the Dash Doni list, its probably much better suited to a more experienced player. To Win its 100% reliant on perfect positioning with barrel/boosting/slam, hiding in the rocks and always aiming to exchange fire at range 3 preferably out of Arc. The principles remain the same regardless of who you fight, stay out of Arc and whittle away. I've only played against it once but I'll talk you through my game so you get a feel for things. His list was the one I mentioned in my previous post with C3-PO crew and a seismic charge on the K-Wing filling up the final 5 points. I was using Poe Dameron(VI,R5-P9,Autothrusters),Ello Asty(VI,R2-D2,Autothrusters),Gold Squadron Y-Wing(TLT,R3-A2,BTL-A4) and I'd be lying if I said it wasn't my list that carried me through this one. At the start of the game he hid his ships in the rocks, whilst I tried to trap his Dash in a pincer movement between my T-70's and the Stressbot with an eye to shutting down his PTL by piling on multiple stress and then punching the outriders doughnut(HLC range band 1 blindspot). Half my plan worked, after a couple of turns both his K-Wing and the 2400 had a pile of stress tokens and were jetting off out of the fight to try and perform some safe green manoeuvres where they wouldn't be shot. However both my T-70's were shield stripped and sporting damage cards, this is the point in the game where If I was using a more traditional list my opponent would have won plain and simple. What happened instead is that while his ships tried to bleed off stress my aces went on a long loop to regen shields, whilst I sacrificed my Y-Wing to ensure that by the time my ships were back up to full health the first ship they would fight wouldn't be taking any actions. This is what happened to his poor K-Wing, and then once the K was gone Dash is very very easy to kill with PS-9 & 10 ships with boost. My opponent was an experienced and competitive player, however he only had experience with his local meta(this was my first time travelling to a tournament, all of 20 miles away!) so the Stressbot was not something he had to play against before which cost him the game. I'm not looking forward to the inevitable rematch once he's worked out a strategy for mitigating my Stressbot(other than kill the annoying non-regen ship first, thats what I expect my opponent to do) as he has a way better eye for engagement ranges and ship placement than I do!

I just this weekend won a small tourney (12 players) with Dash and Corran. I went (4-0) 3 wins and a modified win at the final table. The rounds were 75 minutes, I add this because the list will do better at 60 minute rounds. 3 of the 4 matches went to time.

Dash VI, Outrider, HLC 49pts.

Corran PTL, R2D2, EU, AS 49 pts.

Dash at PS 9 causes different problems for aces that SuperDash does not. Less offense, but better positioning/arc dodging. Corran is VERY difficult to kill. Many people swear by FCS, it is a great choice for many lists. AS gives so many options pre-maneuver that it is a must have for this list. There will be times when you plan to fly in with Corran and attack, and the opponent will turn all of his ships to face Corran. This usually does not end well for Corran. Use AS boost to change the angle, PTL for an evade or focus, then reveal the green 3 and get out of there. Then Dash moves, barrel rolls closer and hits with the HLC. Generally start with Corran in 1 corner facing an empty corner of the enemy side. Dash starts opposite the enemy formation but facing sideways, ready for them to chase him.

At 98 pts, there is a good initiative bid.

1)flew against Rexler and Whisper. Opponent got init. He chose init., that was my preference as well. Whisper only cloaked once, attacked once, because I positioned well and wouldn't give him shots. Uncloaked Whisper went down, Rexler soon followed. I almost got Dash ioned, I rolled 2 evades. 100-0.

2)decimator (oicunn) + emperor+isard+EU+PTL?, he also brought Wampa, and Scourge. This was the toughest match of the day, Wampa only needed to attack twice with the emperor to kill Corran. (Emperor for the auto crit, Wampa cancels said crit for face down damage card that bypasses shields) Fortunately he was only able to get 1 damage on Corran before he went down. Dash got knocked down to 1/2 MoV. After killing Wampa I knocked the Deci down to 1/2. Pts. destroyed 44, pts. lost 24.

3)weirdly setup brobots by a newish player. I sacrificed Dash slowly, had IG-A down to 2 hull when Dash died. Corran double tapped at R1 with a focus and TL. Then it was 1 on 1 and Corran destroyed the remaining IG-C, not sure if he ever even shot again. This match did not go to time. On a side note, never double tap unless you are in R1, preferably with a TL or focus, and even then only with a very high chance of knocking a ship out. The threat of doubletap, is at times worse than doing it. The key to the list is positioning, when the opponent knows Corran can't shoot, it really opens the table for the opponent. While they are fearing the double tap, it closes parts of the table down, letting Dash do his HLC work.

4) final was against Ello, Red Ace, and a B. I popped the B, but it took way longer than it should have. Dash got hit for 1/2 MoV. Pts. destroyed 27, points lost 24.

Three of these four games could have gone the other way. It is not an easy list to fly, it requires patience, but is tons of fun. Never let more than 1 enemy shoot at either ship, even if that means no shots. With careful movement you can eliminate 1 enemy ship. I usually go for the non-regen or easy to kill/low agility enemy. After 1 ship is down, your opponent will have to be very aggressive. If they go after Corran, well good luck, especially if you don't care if Corran even returns fire, Dash HLC will do fine. If they go after Dash, well he's a big base, great dial, barrel rolling monster that is moving very late in the round ignoring obstacles.

Give not-so-fat Dash a try. Hope this helps!

Hello and thanks,

i like the dash doni combo you mention here. Great stuff- definetly wanna give it a try. Have enough c3p0 `s for severl lists now. Tried to register at the page where you mentiones the article bout flying z95`s. Unfortunetly when I tried to sign up there I didnt get any password, yet. Maybe it still comes during the next hour`s. Anyway thanks- love to get more in dept forums on tactic and stategy in x-wing and community discussion.

About the second build down her with super corren with as. I like the idea- and agreed corren becomes a monster in this build. But dash losses actions. MY question is ... waht is your experiences with the late game of this list generally. That you won a tournament is great. But would you say in general a 8/9 PV is enough atm? Your final seemed a close match- I am just a bit worried bout darth vader/ soontir and the shuttle and also poe`s with ten and wedges ... but a corren without ptl is not the deal in this list I understand. :)

Any other experiences with dash which kind wowed or brought new thoughts theses days?

And to add: can it make sense to exchange super corren into a veteren red with Predator r2, ia and a rookie? one kick ass corren with p8 into a pv4 and pv2 t70 and x?

That deci had emperor, isard, ion projector, and expert handling. I knew exactly where this was from when I read the matchups lol. Wampa was a definite pain. Got my Soontir in arc a couple times, I had all that green dice and couldn't even use them.

nice, I do agree on wampa being a problem for corren in the here discussed builts. Its necessary to remove him very quick if he appears to be in an opponents list. :)

The lost Dash action is ok, all PS 8, most 9s move 1st. The dial is less predictable, hard 1s and 3s are your friend. The "donut hole" is less of a concern. My late game experience is usually Dash flying defensively. The opponent is chasing him for points. They have usually given up trying to get Corran. Corran is following them, hammering them. I don't know if PS 8/9 is enough, it was on this particular day. Depends upon your meta. Corran built this way is fun to fly, that's what mattered to me. If I were up against Vader, Soontir, I go for the shuttle. Drop it and play conservatively, then Vader next, which is easier said than done. If you get a win or mod win in this situation, you've done well. As far as Poe/Wedge, if they are regen, ignore them and go for the other lower PS non regen ships, but don't look like this is what you're doing. The list takes a lot of patience. It's about putting 49 points of yours, up against 25-30 points of the opponent, over and over. Little mini fights, don't fight fair. It's the opposite of jousting.
