Motti's List for a First Timer's Tournament!

By Admiral Sylva, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Have my forst tournament on the weekend and was looking for a little feedback. I played this list last night and really liked it. For me it is simple, easy to control and hopefully quite threatening to my opponents!! Let me know what you think/ any suggestions or modifications!

That's a nice list. Dual ISD's are always a lot of fun, and always have a certain psychological effect on your opponent.

Your main issue though will be activations. In most, if not all cases, your opponent will have more ships than you. What this tends to boil down to is your opponent dictating the battle, with you having to react to them. You will loose what could have been fantastic shots with your big guns.

When I'm running a dual ISD build I always tend to slip in a cheeky Raider II with overload pulse. Mainly for the extra activation, but it can also come in handy getting rid of defence tokens so your ISD's shots are even more potent.

What is the purpose of your fighter squadrons? They aren't doing anything for me, and IG-88 doesn't seem to fit in very well.

If it is Anti-Bombers your after then drop IG and add Dengar. Remove the Tie advanced (for me this isn't doing anything) and add Howlrunner to boost your counter ability.

I'd probably take 5 Interceptors over 7 Tie fighters but maybe that is just me. :)

I like the ships though, nice and simple with the upgrades. You don't have many activations per round though which could be a problem.

If you have lotsa fighters maybe drop a tractor beam upgrade and add Expanded Hangar bay to one of the ISDs to boost your squadron command.

Edit. Just thought of something. You definitely want to include ECMs on your ISDs.

Drop the engineering captains or tractor beams for ECMs.

Buying an expanded hangar or boosted comms and/or Wulff can make one ship a specialised carrier and free up the other to do different things. Because only 1 ship will be using the squadron command you can redesign the fighter wing to fit by using interceptors rather than fighters and swapping in Darth Vader's squadron to maintain the punch for fewer activations.

Right, I just spent ages typing up a long, well worded reply, then completely lost it! SO what follows is the brief version. Really appreciate the input though guys :)

@FettMan19 - Love the Raider idea, won't use it for this tournament though as I have never played with the Raider yet.

@Viperous - Tie's screen the ship and intercept anything that gets too clsoe, IG-88 is assassin (hunts Jan Ors/ Rhymer/ Dengar), Tie Advance is IG-88's bodyguard. Not planning on using squadron commands, only spamming navigates and CF's and using Engineering Captains to call up repairs when needed. Don't really want to spend points on boosted comms/ hanger bays.

@Mad Cat & Viperous - I'm a bit 'meh' on ECM's. Never got much use out of them, and I don't see any upgrades I would want to swap them for. I like Engineering captains so I can get rid of crit effects/ hull damage/ recover shields whenever I need them without having to plan those commands in (never get the timing right haha). Tractor beams to keep stuff in my firing arcs and to partially counteract my lack of activation's. Gunnery Teams are a no brainer. XI7's maybe are a possibility or maybe a couple of Tie's. You think a screen of 5 Tie's and ECM's on both ships would still provide a decent enough screen?
