I have been waiting on the sidelines looking at Armada and I finally made the plunge. I am an X-Wing player but I really like how Armada plays, at least from what I have seen. My starter set arrives this week and I have a limited budget.
So I will be playing as the Rebels for now and I have about $50. Just looking for some suggestions and ideas for some additional units to the starter set.

It is the solid mainline ship for the rebels, and you can almost always count on it for something good.

Gotcha, thanks. Luckily there aren't a ton of options and the starter comes with four squadrons of fighters to figure out. I do like that the Assault Frigate is well rounded.
Assault Frigate is a good call. I would also get at least one pack of Rebel Fighters. If you can fit two into your budget (or perhaps find an Imperial player to split a Rogues and Villains pack with), even better.
I can definitely do some fighters or rogues and villains plus a ship. I thought the four squadrons in the starter would be a good call and I think I could fit in a Nebulon instead of an additional fighter pack. This is where I am torn. I like the idea of the Assault Frigate, but I guess my second option for my budget would be the harder choice.
The 4 Squadrons in the Core set are X-Wings... x4. Or if you prefer, x3 and 1 of them being Luke Skywalker.
The Rebel Fighters Pack actually has the selection. 2 Xs, 2 Ys, 2 As and 2 Bs, with corresponding hero options...
That is what makes that a priority call - that selection and choice between different squadrons.
Yeah looking all this stuff up and seeing the diversity in the squadron box. Looks like a lot of options to play around with. I like the idea of squadrons and I can definitely see using them.
Although a Mon Calamari MC-80 looks really tempting.
A Nebulon-B expansion is good (and cheap):
- XI7 and Intel Officer cards are very useful
- contains the ship title cards which make the Neb much more effective (Salvation for firepower, Yavaris for squadrons)
If you're really strapped for cash, you should buy online of course.
An MC80 on coolstuffinc will only run you 25$.
And then, yes a Rogues Villians pack. $10.
An MC80 is a good buy cuz you can start getting higher point values immediately, its a strong ship. And it comes with ackbar.
After that, definitely the AFm2 is a MUST. Like, basically the best rebel ship.
